1. तब यहोवा से वचन पाकर परमेश्वर का बक जन यहूदा से बेतेल को आया, और यारोबाम धूप जलाने के लिये वेदी के पास खड़ा था।

1. And behold, there came a man of God out of Judah by the word of the LORD unto Bethel; and Jeroboam stood by the altar to burn incense.

2. उस जन ने यहोवा से वचन पाकर वेदी के विरूद्ध यों पुकारा, कि वेदी, हे वेदी ! यहोवा यों कहता है, कि सुन, दाऊद के कुल में योशिरयाह नाम एक लड़का उत्पन्न होगा, वह उन ऊंचे स्थनों के याजकों को जो तुझ पर धूप जलाते हैं, तुझ पर बलि कर देगा; और तुझ पर पनुष्यों की हडि्डयां जलाई जाएंगी।

2. And this man cried against the altar in the word of the LORD, and said, 'O altar, altar, thus saith the LORD: `Behold, a child shall be born unto the house of David, Josiah by name; and upon thee shall he offer the priests of the high places who burn incense upon thee, and men's bones shall be burned upon thee.''

3. और उस ने, उसी दिन यह कहकर उस बात का एक चिहृ भी बताया, कि यह वचन जो यहोवा ने कहा है, इसका चिहृ यह है कि यह वेदी फट जाएगी, और इस पर की राख गिर जाएगी।

3. And he gave a sign the same day, saying, 'This is the sign which the LORD hath spoken: Behold, the altar shall be rent, and the ashes that are upon it shall be poured out.'

4. तब ऐसा हुआ कि परमेश्वर के जन का यह वचन सुनकर जो उस ने बेतेल के विरूद्ध पुकार कर कहा, यारोबाम ने वेदी के पास से हाथ बढ़ाकर कहा, उसको पाड़ लो : तब उसका हाथ जो उसकी ओर बढ़ाया गया था, सूख गया और वह उसे अपनी ओर खींच न सका।

4. And it came to pass, when King Jeroboam heard the saying of the man of God who had cried against the altar in Bethel, that he put forth his hand from the altar, saying, 'Lay hold on him!' And his hand, which he put forth against him, dried up, so that he could not pull it in back to him.

5. और वेदी फट गई, और उस पर की राख गिर गई; सो वह चिहृ पूरा हुआ, जो परमेश्वर के जन ने यहोवा से वचन पाकर कहा था।

5. The altar also was rent and the ashes poured out from the altar, according to the sign which the man of God had given by the word of the LORD.

6. तब राजा ने परमेश्वर के जन से कहा, अपने परमेश्वर यहोवा को मना और मेरे लिये प्रार्थना कर, कि मेरा हाथ ज्यों का त्यो हो जाए : तब परमेश्वर के जन ने यहोवा को मनाया और राजा का हाथ फिर ज्यों का त्यों हो गया।

6. And the king answered and said unto the man of God, 'Entreat now the face of the LORD thy God and pray for me, that my hand may be restored to me again.' And the man of God besought the LORD, and the king's hand was restored to him again, and became as it was before.

7. तब राजा ने परमेश्वर के जन से कहा, मेरे संग घर चलकर अपना प्राण ठंडा कर, और मैं तुझे दान भी दूंगा।

7. And the king said unto the man of God, 'Come home with me and refresh thyself, and I will give thee a reward.'

8. परमेश्वर के जन ने राजा से कहा, चाहे नू मुझे अपना आधा घर भी दे, तौभी तेरे घर न चलूंगा; और इस स्थन में मैं न तो रोटी खाऊंगा और न पानी पीऊंगा।

8. And the man of God said unto the king, 'If thou wilt give me half thine house, I will not go in with thee, neither will I eat bread nor drink water in this place.

9. क्योंकि यहोवा के वचन के द्वारा मुझे यों आज्ञा मिली है, कि न तो रोटी खाना, और न पानी पीना, और न उस मार्ग से लौटना जिस से तू जाएगा।

9. For so was it charged me by the word of the LORD, saying, `Eat no bread, nor drink water, nor turn again by the same way that thou camest.''

10. इसलिये वह उस मार्ग से जिसे बेतेल को गया था न लौटकर, दूसरे मार्ग से चला गया।

10. So he went another way, and returned not by the way that he came to Bethel.

11. बेतेल में एक बूढ़ा नबी रहता था, और उसके एक बेटे ने आकर उस से उन सब कामों का वर्णन किया जो परमेश्वर के जन ने उस दिन बेतेल में किए थे; और जो बातें उस ने राजा से कही थीं, उनको भी उस ने अपने पिता से कह सुनाया।

11. Now there dwelt an old prophet in Bethel, and his sons came and told him all the works that the man of God had done that day in Bethel; the words which he had spoken unto the king, them they told also to their father.

12. उसके बेटों ने तो यह देखा था, कि परमेश्वर का वह जन जो यहूदा से आया था, किस मार्ग से चला गया, सो उनके पिता ने उन से पूछा, वह किस मार्ग से चला गया?

12. And their father said unto them, 'What way went he?' For his sons had seen which way the man of God went who came from Judah.

13. और उस ने अपने बेटों से कहा, मेरे लिये गदहे पर काठी बान्धो्र; तब अन्हों ने गदहे पर काठी बान्धी, और वह उस पर चढ़ा,

13. And he said unto his sons, 'Saddle me the ass.' So they saddled him the ass; and he rode thereon,

14. और परमेश्वर के जन के पीछे जाकर उसे एक बांजवृक्ष के तले बैठा हुआ पाया; और उस से मूछा, परमेश्वर का जो जन यहूदा से आया था, क्या तू वही है?

14. and went after the man of God, and found him sitting under an oak. And he said unto him, 'Art thou the man of God who camest from Judah?' And he said, 'I am.'

15. उस ने कहा हां, वही हूँूू। उस ने उस से कहा, मेरे संग घर चलकर भोजन कर।

15. Then he said unto him, 'Come home with me and eat bread.'

16. उस ने उस से कहा, मैं न तो तेरे संग लौट सकता, और न तेरे संग घर में जा सकता हूँ और न मैं इस स्थान में तेरे संग रोटी खाऊंगा, वा पानी पीऊंगा।

16. And he said, 'I may not return with thee, nor go in with thee; neither will I eat bread nor drink water with thee in this place.

17. क्योंकि यहोवा के वचन के द्वारा मुझे यह आज्ञा मिली है, कि वहां न तो रोटी खाना और न पानी पीना, और जिस मार्ग से तू जाएगा उस से न लौटना।

17. For it was said to me by the word of the LORD: `Thou shalt eat no bread nor drink water there, nor turn back to go by the way that thou camest.''

18. उस ने कहा, जैसा तू नबी है वैसा ही मैं भी नबी हूँ; और मुझ से एक दूत ने यहोवा से वचन पाकर कहा, कि उस पुरूष को अपने संग अपने घर लौटा ले आ, कि वह रोटी खाए, और पानी पीए। यह उस ने उस से झूठ कहा।

18. He said unto him, 'I am a prophet also as thou art; and an angel spoke unto me by the word of the LORD, saying, `Bring him back with thee into thine house, that he may eat bread and drink water.'' But he lied unto him.

19. अतएव वह उसके संग लौट गया और उसके घर में रोटी खाई और मानी पीया।

19. So he went back with him, and ate bread in his house, and drank water.

20. और जब वे मेज पर बैठे ही थे, कि यहोवा का वचन उस नबी के पास पहुंचा, जो दूसरे को लौटा ले आया था।

20. And it came to pass, as they sat at the table, that the word of the LORD came unto the prophet who brought him back;

21. और उस ने परमेश्वर के उस जन को जो यहूदा से आया था, पुकार के कहा, यहोवा यों कहता है इसलिये कि तू ने यहोवा का वचन न माना, और जो आज्ञा तेरे परमेश्वर यहोवा ने तुझे दी थी उसे भी नहीं माना;

21. and he cried unto the man of God who came from Judah, saying, 'Thus saith the LORD: `Forasmuch as thou hast disobeyed the mouth of the LORD, and hast not kept the commandment which the LORD thy God commanded thee,

22. परन्तु जिस स्थान के विषय उस ने तुझ से कहा था, कि उस में न तो रोटी खाना और न पानी पीना, उसी में तू ने लौट कर रोटी खाई, और पानी भी पिया है इस कारण तूझे अपने पुरखाओं के कब्रिस्तान में मिट्टी नहीं दी जाएगी।

22. but camest back, and hast eaten bread and drunk water in the place of which the LORD said to thee, 'Eat no bread, and drink no water,' thy carcass shall not come unto the sepulcher of thy fathers.''

23. जब यह खा पी चुका, तब उस ने परमेश्वर के उस जन के लिये जिसको वह लौटा ले आया था गदहे पर काठी बन्धाई।

23. And it came to pass, after he had eaten bread and after he had drunk, that he saddled for him the ass, to wit, for the prophet whom he had brought back.

24. जब वह मार्ग में चल रहा था, तो एक सिंह उसे मिला, और उसको मार डाला, और उसकी लोथ मार्ग पर पड़ी रही, और गदहा उसके पास खड़ा रहा और सिंह भी लोथ के पास खड़ा रहा।

24. And when he was gone, a lion met him by the way and slew him; and his carcass was cast in the way, and the ass stood by it; the lion also stood by the carcass.

25. जो लोग उधर से चले आ रहे थे उन्हों ने यह देख कर कि मार्ग पर एक लोथ पड़ी है, और उसके पास सिंह खड़ा है, उस नगर में जाकर जहां वह बूढ़ा नबी रहता था यह समाचार सुनाया।

25. And behold, men passed by and saw the carcass cast in the way, and the lion standing by the carcass; and they came and told it in the city where the old prophet dwelt.

26. यह सुनकर उस नबी ने जो उसको मार्ग पर से लौटा ले आया था, कहा, परमेश्वर का वही जन होगा, जिस ने यहोवा के वचन के विरूद्ध किया था, इस कारण यहोवा ने उसको सिंह के पंजे में पड़ने दिया; और यहोवा के उस वचन के अनुसार जो उस ने उस से कहा था, सिंह ने उसे फाड़कर मार डाला होगा।

26. And when the prophet who brought him back from the way heard thereof, he said, 'It is the man of God who was disobedient unto the word of the LORD. Therefore the LORD hath delivered him unto the lion, which hath torn him and slain him, according to the word of the LORD which He spoke unto him.'

27. तब उस ने अपने बेटों से कहा, मेरे लिये गदहे पर काठी बान्धो; जब उन्हों ने काठी बान्धी,

27. And he spoke to his sons, saying, 'Saddle me the ass.' And they saddled him.

28. तब उस ने जाकर उस जन की लोथ मार्ग पर पड़ी हुई, और गदहे, और सिंह दोनों को लोथ के पास खड़े हुए पाया, और यह भी कि सिंह ने न तो लौथ को खाया, और न बदहे को फाड़ा है।

28. And he went and found his carcass cast in the way, and the ass and the lion standing by the carcass. The lion had not eaten the carcass nor torn the ass.

29. तब उस बूढ़े नबी ने परमेश्वर के जन की लोथ उठाकर गदहे पर लाद ली, और उसके लिये छाती पीटने लगा, और उसे मिट्टी देने को अपने नगर में लौटा ले गया।

29. And the prophet took up the carcass of the man of God, and laid it upon the ass and brought it back; and the old prophet came to the city to mourn and to bury him.

30. और उस ने उसकी लोथ को अपने कब्रिस्तान में रखा, और लोग हाय, मेरे भाई ! यह कहकर छाती पीटने लगे।

30. And he laid his carcass in his own grave; and they mourned over him, saying, 'Alas, my brother!'

31. फिर उसे मिट्टी देकर उस ने अपने बेटों से कहा, जब मैं मर जाऊंगा तब मुझे इसी कब्रिस्तान में रखना, जिस में परमेश्वर का यह जन रखा गया है, और मेरी हडि्डयां उसी की हडि्डयों के पास धर देना।

31. And it came to pass, after he had buried him, that he spoke to his sons, saying, 'When I am dead, then bury me in the sepulcher wherein the man of God is buried; lay my bones beside his bones.

32. क्योंकि जो वचन उस ने यहोवा से पाकर बेतेल की वेदी और शोंमरोन के नगरों के सब ऊंचे स्थानों के भवनों के विरूद्ध पुकार के कहा है, वह निश्चय पूरा हो जाएगा।

32. For the saying which he cried by the word of the LORD against the altar in Bethel, and against all the houses of the high places which are in the cities of Samaria, shall surely come to pass.'

33. इसके बाद यारोबाम अपनी बुरी चाल से न फिरा। उस ने फिर सब प्रकार के लोगो में से ऊंचे स्थानों के याजक बनाए, वरन जो कोई चाहता था, उसका संस्कार करके, वह उसको ऊंचे स्थानों का याजक होने को ठहरा देता था।

33. After this thing Jeroboam returned not from his evil way, but made again from the lowest of the people priests for the high places; whosoever would, he consecrated him, and he became one of the priests of the high places.

34. और यह बात यारोबाम के घराने का पाप ठहरी, इस कारण उसका विनाश हुआ, और वह धरती पर से नाश किया गया।

34. And this thing became sin unto the house of Jeroboam, even to cut it off and to destroy it from off the face of the earth.
