1. और यहोवा का कोप इस्राएलियों पर फिर भड़का, और उस ने दाऊद को इनकी हानि के लिये यह कहकर उभारा, कि इस्राएल और यहूदा की गिनती ले।

1. Now again the anger of the LORD burned against Israel, and it incited David against them to say, 'Go, number Israel and Judah.'

2. सो राजा ने योआब सेनापति से जो उसके पास था कहा, तू दान से बेश् बा तक रहनेवाले सब इस्राएली गोत्रों में इधर उधर घूम, और तुम लोग प्रजा की गिनती लो, ताकि मैं जान लूं कि प्रजा की कितनी गिनती है।

2. The king said to Joab the commander of the army who was with him, 'Go about now through all the tribes of Israel, from Dan to Beersheba, and register the people, that I may know the number of the people.'

3. योआब ने राजा से कहा, प्रजा के लोग कितने ही क्यों न हों, तेरा परमेश्वर यहोवा उनको सौगुणा बढ़ा दे, और मेरा प्रभु राजा इसे अपनी आंखों से देखने भी पाए; परन्तु, हे मेरे प्रभु, हे राजा, यह बात तू क्यों चाहता है?

3. But Joab said to the king, 'Now may the LORD your God add to the people a hundred times as many as they are, while the eyes of my lord the king [still] see; but why does my lord the king delight in this thing?'

4. तौभी राजा की आज्ञा योआब और सेनापतियों पर प्रबल हुई। सो योआब और सेनापति राजा के सम्मुख से इस्राएली प्रजा की गिनती लेने को निकल गए।

4. Nevertheless, the king's word prevailed against Joab and against the commanders of the army. So Joab and the commanders of the army went out from the presence of the king to register the people of Israel.

5. उन्हों ने यरदन पार जाकर अरोएर नगर की दाहिनी ओर डेरे खड़े किए, जो गाद के नाले के मध्य में और याजेर की ओर है।

5. They crossed the Jordan and camped in Aroer, on the right side of the city that is in the middle of the valley of Gad and toward Jazer.

6. तब वे गिलाद में और तहतीम्होदशी नाम देश में गए, फिर दान्यान को गए, और चक्कर लगाकर सीदोन में पहुंचे;

6. Then they came to Gilead and to the land of Tahtim-hodshi, and they came to Dan-jaan and around to Sidon,

7. तब वे सोर नाम दृढ़ गढ़, और हिब्बियों और कनानियों के सब नगरों में गए; और उन्हों ने यहूदा देश की दक्खिन दिशा में बेशेंबा में दौरा निपटाया।

7. and came to the fortress of Tyre and to all the cities of the Hivites and of the Canaanites, and they went out to the south of Judah, [to] Beersheba.

8. और सब देश में इधर उधर घूम घूमकर वे नौ महीने और बीस दिन के बीतने पर यरूशलेम को आए।

8. So when they had gone about through the whole land, they came to Jerusalem at the end of nine months and twenty days.

9. तब योआब ने प्रजा की गिनती का जोड़ राजा को सुनाया; और तलवार चलानेवाले योठ्ठा इस्राएल के तो आठ लाख, और यहूदा के पांच नाख निकले।

9. And Joab gave the number of the registration of the people to the king; and there were in Israel eight hundred thousand valiant men who drew the sword, and the men of Judah were five hundred thousand men.

10. प्रजा की गणना करने के बाद दाऊद का मन व्याकुल हुआ। और दाऊद ने यहोवा से कहा, यह काम जो मैं ने किया वह महापाप है। तो अब, हे यहोवा, अपने दास का अधर्म दूर कर; क्योंकि मुझ से बड़ी मूर्खता हुई है।

10. Now David's heart troubled him after he had numbered the people. So David said to the LORD, 'I have sinned greatly in what I have done. But now, O LORD, please take away the iniquity of Your servant, for I have acted very foolishly.'

11. बिहान को जब दाऊद उठा, तब यहोवा का यह वचन गाद नाम नबी के पास जो दाऊद का दश था पहुंचा,

11. When David arose in the morning, the word of the LORD came to the prophet Gad, David's seer, saying,

12. कि जाकर दाऊद से कह, कि यहोवा यों कहता है, कि मैं तुझ को तीन विपत्तियां दिखाता हूँ; उन में से एक को चुन ले, कि मैं उसे तुझ पर डालूं।

12. 'Go and speak to David, 'Thus the LORD says, 'I am offering you three things; choose for yourself one of them, which I will do to you.'''

13. सो गाद ने दाऊद के पास जाकर इसका समाचार दिया, और उस से पूछा, क्या तेरे देश में सात वर्ष का अकाल पड़े? वा तीन महीने तक तेरे शत्रु तेरा पीछा करते रहें और तू उन से भागता रहे? वा तेरे देश में तीन दिन तक मरी फैली रहे? अब सोच विचार कर, कि मैं अपने भेजनेवाले को क्या उत्तर दूं।

13. So Gad came to David and told him, and said to him, 'Shall seven years of famine come to you in your land? Or will you flee three months before your foes while they pursue you? Or shall there be three days' pestilence in your land? Now consider and see what answer I shall return to Him who sent me.'

14. दाऊद ने गाद से कहा, मै बड़े संकट में हूँ; हम यहोवा के हाथ में पड़ें, क्योंकि उसकी दया बड़ी है; परन्तु मनुष्य के हाथ में मैं न पडूंगा।

14. Then David said to Gad, 'I am in great distress. Let us now fall into the hand of the LORD for His mercies are great, but do not let me fall into the hand of man.'

15. तब यहोवा इस्राएलियों में बिहान से ले ठहराए हुए समय तक मरी फैलाए रहा; और दान से लेकर बेश् बा तक रहनेवाली प्रजा में से सत्तर हज़ार पुरूष मर गए।

15. So the LORD sent a pestilence upon Israel from the morning until the appointed time, and seventy thousand men of the people from Dan to Beersheba died.

16. परन्तु जब दूत ने यरूशलेम का नाश करने को उस पर अपना हाथ बढ़ाया, तब यहोवा वह विपत्ति डालकर शोकित हुआ, और प्रजा के नाश करनेवाले दूत से कहा, बस कर; अब अपना हाथ खींच। और यहोवा का दूत उस समय अरौना नाम एक यबूसी के खलिहान के पास था।

16. When the angel stretched out his hand toward Jerusalem to destroy it, the LORD relented from the calamity and said to the angel who destroyed the people, 'It is enough! Now relax your hand!' And the angel of the LORD was by the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.

17. तो जब प्रजा का नाश करनेवाला दूत दाऊद को दिखाई पड़ा, तब उस ने यहोवा से कहा, देख, पाप तो मैं ही ने किया, और कुटिलता मैं ही ने की है; परन्तु इन भेड़ों ने क्या किया है? सो तेरा हाथ मेरे और मेरे पिता के घराने के विरूद्ध हो।

17. Then David spoke to the LORD when he saw the angel who was striking down the people, and said, 'Behold, it is I who have sinned, and it is I who have done wrong; but these sheep, what have they done? Please let Your hand be against me and against my father's house.'

18. उसी दिन गाद ने दाऊद के पास आकर उस से कहा, जाकर अरौना यबूसी के खलिहान में यहोवा की एक वेदी बनवा।

18. So Gad came to David that day and said to him, 'Go up, erect an altar to the LORD on the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.'

19. सो दाऊद यहोवा की आज्ञा के अनुसार गाद का वह वचन मानकर वहां गया।

19. David went up according to the word of Gad, just as the LORD had commanded.

20. जब अरौना ने दृष्टि कर दाऊद को कर्मचारियो समेत अपनी ओर आते देखा, तब अरौना ने निकलकर भूमि पर मुह के बल गिर राजा को दणडवत् की।

20. Araunah looked down and saw the king and his servants crossing over toward him; and Araunah went out and bowed his face to the ground before the king.

21. और अरौना ने कहा, मेरा प्रभु राजा अपने दास के पास क्यों पधारा है? आऊद ने कहा, तुझ से यह खलिहान मोल लेने आया हूँ, कि यहोवा की एक बेदी बनवाऊं, इसलिये कि यह व्याधि प्रजा पर से दूर की जाए।

21. Then Araunah said, 'Why has my lord the king come to his servant?' And David said, 'To buy the threshing floor from you, in order to build an altar to the LORD, that the plague may be held back from the people.'

22. अरौनर ने दाऊद से कहा, मेरा प्रभु राजा जो कुछ उसे अच्छा लगे सो लेकर चढ़ाए; देख, होमबलि के लिये तो बैल हैं, और दांचने के हथियार, और बैलों का सामान ईधन का काम देंगे।

22. Araunah said to David, 'Let my lord the king take and offer up what is good in his sight. Look, the oxen for the burnt offering, the threshing sledges and the yokes of the oxen for the wood.

23. यह सब अरौना ने राजा को दे दिया। फिर अरौना ने राजा से कहा, तेरा परमेश्वर यहोवा तुझ से प्रसन्न होए।

23. 'Everything, O king, Araunah gives to the king.' And Araunah said to the king, 'May the LORD your God accept you.'

24. राजा ने अरौना से कहा, ऐसा नहीं, मै ये वस्तुएं तुझ से अवश्य दाम देकर लूंगा; मैं अपने परमेश्वर यहोवा को सेंतमेंत के होमबलि नहीं चढ़ाने का। सो दाऊद ने खलिहान और बैलों को चांदी के पचास शेकेल पें मोल लिया।

24. However, the king said to Araunah, 'No, but I will surely buy [it] from you for a price, for I will not offer burnt offerings to the LORD my God which cost me nothing.' So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.

25. और दाऊद ने वहां यहोवा की एक बेदी बनवाकर होमबलि और मेलबलि चढ़ाए। और यहोवा ने देश के निमित्त बिनती सुन ली, तब वह व्याधि इस्राएल पर से दूर हो गई।

25. David built there an altar to the LORD and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. Thus the LORD was moved by prayer for the land, and the plague was held back from Israel.
