1. याकूब तो कनान देश में रहता था, जहां उसका पिता परदेशी होकर रहा था।

1. And Jacob lived in the land of his father's travels, in the land of Canaan.

2. और याकूब के वंश का वृत्तान्त यह है : कि यूसुफ सतरह वर्ष का होकर भाइयों के संग भेड़- बकरियों को चराता था; और वह लड़का अपने पिता की पत्नी बिल्हा, और जिल्पा के पुत्रों के संग रहा करता था : और उनकी बुराईयों का समाचार अपने पिता के पास पहुंचाया करता था :

2. These are the generations of Jacob: Joseph, a son of seventeen years, was feeding the flock with his brothers, with Bilhah's sons and with Zilpah's sons, his father's wives. And he was a youth. And Joseph brought an evil report of them to their father.

3. और इस्राएल अपने सब पुत्रों से बढ़के यूसुफ से प्रीति रखता था, क्योंकि वह उसके बुढ़ापे का पुत्रा था : और उस ने उसके लिये रंग बिरंगा अंगरखा बनवाया।

3. And Israel loved Joseph more than all his sons, because he was a son of old age to him. And he made a robe reaching to the soles of his feet.

4. सो जब उसके भाईयों ने देखा, कि हमारा पिता हम सब भाइयों से अधिक उसी से प्रीति रखता है, तब वे उस से बैर करने लगे और उसके साथ ठीक तौर से बात भी नहीं करते थे।

4. And his brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers, and they hated him. And they were not able to speak to him for peace.

5. और यूसुफ ने एक स्वप्न देखा, और अपने भाइयों से उसका वर्णन किया : तब वे उस से और भी द्वेष करने लगे।

5. And Joseph dreamed a dream, and told it to his brothers. And they increased to hate him still more.

6. और उस ने उन से कहा, जो स्वप्न मैं ने देखा है, सो सुनो :

6. And he said to them, Now hear this dream which I have dreamed:

7. हम लोग खेत में पूले बान्ध रहे हैं, और क्या देखता हूं कि मेरा पूला उठकर सीधा खड़ा हो गया; तब तुम्हारे पूलों ने मेरे पूले को चारों तरफ से घेर लिया और उसे दण्डवत् किया।

7. And, behold! We were binding sheaves in the middle of the field. And, behold, my sheaf rose up and also stood up. And, behold, your sheaves came around and bowed themselves to my sheaf.

8. तब उसके भाइयों ने उस से कहा, क्या सचमुच तू हमारे ऊपर राज्य करेगा ? वा सचमुच तू हम पर प्रभुता करेगा ? सो वे उसके स्वप्नों और उसकी बातों के कारण उस से और भी अधिक बैर करने लगे।

8. And his brothers said to him, Shall you indeed reign over us, or shall you really rule over us? And they hated him still more because of his dreams, and because of his words.

9. फिर उस ने एक और स्वप्न देखा, और अपने भाइयों से उसका भी यों वर्णन किया, कि सुनो, मैं ने एक और स्वप्न देखा है, कि सूर्य और चन्द्रमा, और ग्यारह तारे मुझे दण्डवत् कर रहे हैं।

9. And he dreamed still another dream, and told it to his brothers. And he said, Behold, I have dreamed another dream: And, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars were bowing themselves to me.

10. यह स्वप्न उस ने अपने पिता, और भाइयों से वर्णन किया : तब उसके पिता ने उसको दपटके कहा, यह कैसा स्वप्न है जो तू ने देखा है? क्या सचमुच मैं और तेरी माता और तेरे भाई सब जाकर तेरे आगे भूमि पर गिरके दण्डवत् करेंगे?

10. And he told it to his father, and to his brothers. And his father rebuked him, and said to him, What is this dream which you have dreamed? Shall we indeed come to bow ourselves to the earth to you, I, your mother, and your brothers?

11. उसके भाई तो उससे डाह करते थे; पर उसके पिता ने उसके उस वचन को स्मरण रखा।
प्रेरितों के काम 7:9

11. And his brothers were jealous of him. But his father observed the word.

12. और उसके भाई अपने पिता की भेड़- बकरियों को चराने के लिये शकेम को गए।

12. And his brothers went to feed the flock of their father in Shechem.

13. तब इस्राएल ने यूसुफ से कहा, तेरे भाई तो शकेम ही में भेड़- बकरी चरा रहें होंगे, सो जा, मैं तुझे उनके पास भेजता हूं। उस ने उस से कहा जो आज्ञा मैं हाजिर हूं।

13. And Israel said to Joseph, Are not your brothers feeding the flock in Shechem? Come, and I will send you to them. And he said to him, Behold me.

14. उस ने उस से कहा, जा, अपने भाइयों और भेड़- बकरियों का हाल देख आ कि वे कुशल से तो हैं, फिर मेरे पास समाचार ले आ। सो उस ने उसको हेब्रोन की तराई में विदा कर दिया, और वह शकेम में आया।

14. And he said to him, Now go, see the welfare of your brothers, and the welfare of the flock, and bring word back to me. And he sent him out of the valley of Hebron. And he came to Shechem.

15. और किसी मनुष्य ने उसको मैदान मे इधर उधर भटकते हुए पाकर उस से पूछा, तू क्या ढूंढता है?

15. And a man found him. And, behold, he was wandering in the field. And the man asked him, saying, What do you seek?

16. उस ने कहा, मैं तो अपने भाइयों को ढूंढता हूं : कृपा कर मुझे बता, कि वे भेड़- बकरियों को कहां चरा रहे हैं?

16. And he said, I am looking for my brothers. Please tell me where they are feeding the flock.

17. उस मनुष्य ने कहा, वे तो यहां से चले गए हैं : और मैं ने उनको यह कहते सुना, कि आओ, हम दोतान को चलें। सो यूसुफ अपने भाइयों के पास चला, और उन्हें दोतान में पाया।

17. And the man said, They have left here, for I heard them say, Let us go towards Dothan. And Joseph went after his brothers and found them in Dothan.

18. और ज्योंही उन्हों ने उसे दूर से आते देखा, तो उसके निकट आने के पहिले ही उसे मार डालने की युक्ति की।

18. And they saw him from a distance. And before he came near to them, they plotted against him, to kill him.

19. और वे आपस में कहने लगे, देखो, वह स्वप्न देखनेहारा आ रहा है।

19. And they said, each to his brother, Behold, this master of dreams is coming.

20. सो आओ, हम उसको घात करके किसी गड़हे में डाल दें, और यह कह देंगे, कि कोई दुष्ट पशु उसको खा गया। फिर हम देखेंगे कि उसके स्वप्नों का क्या फल होगा।

20. And, Come now, and let us kill him, and throw him into one of the pits. And let us say, An evil beast has eaten him. And let us see what will become of his dreams.

21. यह सुनके रूबेन ने उसको उनके हाथ से बचाने की मनसा से कहा, हम उसको प्राण से तो न मारें।

21. And Reuben heard, and he delivered him from their hands, and said, Let us not smite his soul.

22. फिर रूबेन ने उन से कहा, लोहू मत बहाओ, उसको जंगल के इस गड़हे में डाल दो, और उस पर हाथ मत उठाओ। वह उसको उनके हाथ से छुड़ाकर पिता के पास फिर पहुंचाना चाहता था।

22. And Reuben said to them, Do not shed blood. Throw him into this pit in the desert, but do not lay a hand on him; so that he might deliver him from their hands, to return him to his father.

23. सो ऐसा हुआ, कि जब यूसुफ अपने भाइयों के पास पहुंचा तब उन्हों ने उसका रंगबिरंगा अंगरखा, जिसे वह पहिने हुए था, उतार लिया।

23. And it happened when Joseph came to his brothers, they stripped his robe which was on him, from Joseph, the robe reaching to the soles of his feet.

24. और यूसुफ को उठाकर गड़हे में डाल दिया : वह गड़हा तो सूखा था और उस में कुछ जल न था।

24. And they took him and threw him into the pit, the pit being empty, no water in it.

25. तब वे रोटी खाने को बैठ गए : और आंखे उठाकर क्या देखा, कि इश्माएलियों का एक दल ऊंटो पर सुगन्धद्रव्य, बलसान, और गन्धरस लादे हुए, गिलाद से मि को चला जा रहा है।

25. And they sat down to eat bread. And they lifted up their eyes and looked. And, behold, a caravan of Ishmaelites coming from Gilead! And their camels were bearing spices, and balsam gum, and myrrh, going down to take them to Egypt.

26. तब यहूदा ने अपने भाइयों से कहा, अपने भाई को घात करने और उसका खून छिपाने से क्या लाभ होगा ?

26. And Judah said to his brothers, What gain is it that we kill our brother and conceal his blood?

27. आओ, हम उसे इश्माएलियों के हाथ बेच डालें, और अपना हाथ उस पर न उठाएं, क्योंकि वह हमारा भाई और हमारी हड्डी और मांस है, सो उसके भाइयों ने उसकी बात मान ली। तब मिद्यानी व्यापारी उधर से होकर उनके पास पहुंचे :

27. Come, let us sell him to the Ishmaelites, and do not let our hand be on him. For he is our brother, our flesh. And his brothers listened.

28. सो यूसुफ के भाइयों ने उसको उस गड़हे में से खींचके बाहर निकाला, और इश्माएलियों के हाथ चांदी के बीस टुकड़ों में बेच दिया : और वे यूसुफ को मि में ले गए।

28. And men, Midianites, traders, passed. And they drew up and took Joseph out of the pit, and they sold Joseph to the Ishmaelites for twenty pieces of silver. And they brought Joseph into Egypt.

29. और रूबेन ने गड़हे पर लौटकर क्या देखा, कि यूसुफ गड़हे में नहीं हैं; सो उस ने अपने वस्त्रा फाड़े।

29. And Reuben came back to the pit. And, behold, Joseph was not in the pit; and he tore his clothes.

30. और अपने भाइयों के पास लौटकर कहने लगा, कि लड़का तो नहीं हैं; अब मैं किधर जाऊं ?

30. And he returned to his brothers and said, The child, he is not. And I, where shall I go?

31. और तब उन्हों ने यूसुफ का अंगरखा लिया, और एक बकरे को मारके उसके लोहू में उसे डुबा दिया।

31. And they took Joseph's robe, and killed a ram of the goats, and dipped the robe in the blood.

32. और उन्हों ने उस रंग बिरंगे अंगरखे को अपने पिता के पास भेजकर कहला दिया; कि यह हम को मिला है, सो देखकर पहिचान ले, कि यह तेरे पुत्रा का अंगरखा है कि नहीं।

32. And they sent the robe reaching to the soles of his feet, and they took it to their father, and said, We have found this. Now look, is it your son's robe?

33. उस ने उसको पहिचान लिया, और कहा, हां यह मेरे ही पुत्रा का अंगरखा है; किसी दुष्ट पशु ने उसको खा लिया है; नि:सन्देह यूसुफ फाड़ डाला गया है।

33. And he knew it, and said, My son's robe! An evil beast has eaten him. Being torn Joseph is torn in pieces.

34. तब याकूब ने अपने वस्त्रा फाड़े और कमर में टाट लपेटा, और अपने पुत्रा के लिये बहुत दिनों तक विलाप करता रहा।

34. And Jacob tore his clothing and put sackcloth on his loins. And he mourned many days for his son.

35. और उसके सब बेटे- बेटियों ने उसको शान्ति देने का यत्न किया; पर उसको शान्ति न मिली; और वह यही कहता रहा, मैं तो विलाप करता हुआ अपने पुत्रा के पास अधोलोक में उतर जाऊंगा। इस प्रकार उसका पिता उसके लिये रोता ही रहा।

35. And all his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him. And he refused to be comforted, and said, I will go down to Sheol mourning for my son. And his father wept for him.

36. और मिद्यानियों ने यूसुफ को मि में ले जाकर पोतीपर नाम, फिरौन के एक हाकिम, और जल्लादों के प्रधान, के हाथ बेच डाला।।

36. And the Midianites sold him into Egypt, to Potiphar, a eunuch of Pharaoh, the chief of the executioners.
