1. श्रेष्ठगीत जो सुलैमान का है।।

1. Let him kiss me with the kiss of his mouth: for thy breasts are better than wine,

2. वह अपने मुंह के चुम्बनों से मुझे चूमे! क्योंकि तेरा प्रेम दाखमधु से उत्तम है,

2. Smelling sweet of the best ointments. Thy name is as oil poured out: therefore young maidens have loved thee.

3. तेरे भांति भांति के इत्रों का सुगन्ध उत्तम है, तेरा नाम उंडेले हुए इत्रा के तुल्य है; इसीलिये कुमारियां तुझ से प्रेम रखती हैं

3. Draw me: we will run after thee to the odour of thy ointments. The king hath brought me into his storerooms: we will be glad and rejoice in thee, remembering thy breasts more than wine: the righteous love thee.

4. मुझे खींच ले; हम तेरे पीछे दौड़ेंगे राजा मुझे अपने महल में ले आया है। हम तुझ में मगन और आनन्दित होंगे; हम दाखमधु से अधिक तेरे प्रेम की चर्चा करेंगे; वे ठीक ही तुझ से प्रेम रखती हैं।।

4. I am black but beautiful, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, as the tents of Cedar, as the curtains of Solomon.

5. हे यरूशलेम की पुत्रियों, मैं काली तो हूं परन्तु सुन्दर हूं, केदार के तम्बुओं के और सुलैमान के पर्दों के तुल्य हूं।

5. Do not consider me that I am brown, because the sun hath altered my colour: the sons of my mother have fought against me, they have made me the keeper in the vineyards: my vineyard I have not kept.

6. मुझे इसलिये न घूर कि मैं साँवली हूं, क्योंकि मैं धूप से झुलस गई। मेरी माता के पुत्रा मुझ से अप्रसन्न थे, उन्हों ने मुझ को दाख की बारियों की रखवालिन बनाया; परन्तु मैं ने अपनी निज दाख की बारी की रखवाली नहीं की!

6. Shew me, O thou whom my soul loveth, where thou feedest, where thou liest in the midday, lest I begin to wander after the flocks of thy companions.

7. हे मेरे प्राणप्रिय मुझे बता, तू अपनी भेड़- बकरियां कहां चराता है, दोपहर को तू उन्हें कहां बैठाता है; मैं क्यों तेरे संगियों की भेड़- बकरियों के पास घूंघट काढ़े हुए भटकती फिरूं?

7. If thou know not thyself, O fairest among women, go forth, and follow after the steps of the flocks, and feed thy kids beside the tents of the shepherds.

8. हे स्त्रियों में सुन्दरी, यदि तू यह न जानती हो तो भेड़- बकरियों के खुरों के चिन्हों पर चल और चरावाहों के तम्बुओं के पास अपनी बकरियों के बच्चों को चरा।।

8. To my company of horsemen, in Pharao's chariots, have I likened thee, O my love.

9. हे मेरी प्रिय मैं ने तेरी तुलना फिरौन के रथों में जुती हुई घोड़ी से की है।

9. Thy cheeks are beautiful as the turtledove's, thy neck as jewels.

10. तेरे गाल केशों के लटों के बीच क्या ही सुन्दर हैं, और तेरा कण्ठ हीरों की लड़ों के बीच।

10. We will make thee chains of gold, inlaid with silver.

11. हम तेरे लिये चान्दी के फूलदार सोने के आभूषण बनाएंगे।

11. While the king was at his repose, my spikenard sent forth the odour thereof.

12. जब राजा अपनी मेज के पास बैठा था मेरी जटामासी की सुगन्ध फैल रही थी।

12. A bundle of myrrh is my beloved to me, he shall abide between my breasts.

13. मेरा प्रेमी मेरे लिये लोबान की थैली के समान है जो मेरी छातियों के बीच में पड़ी रहती है।।

13. A cluster of cypress my love is to me, in the vineyards of Engaddi.

14. मेरा प्रमी मेरे लिये मेंहदी के फूलों के गुच्छे के समान है, जो एनगदी की दाख की बारियों में होता है।।

14. Behold thou art fair, O my love, behold thou art fair, thy eyes are as those of doves.

15. तू सुन्दरी है, हे मेरी प्रिय, तू सुन्दरी है; तेरी आंखें कबूतरी की सी हैं।

15. Behold thou art fair, my beloved, and comely. Our bed is flourishing.

16. हे मेरी प्रिय तू सुन्दर और मनभावनी है। और हमारा बिछौना भी हरा है;

16. The beams of our houses are of cedar, our rafters of cypress trees.
