1. तब नामाती सोपर ने कहो

1. Then answered Sophar the Naamathite, and sayde:

2. बहुत सी बातें जो कही गई हैं, क्या उनका उत्तर देना न चाहिये? क्या बकवादी मनुष्य धम ठहराया जाए?

2. Shulde not he that maketh many wordes, be answered? Shulde he that bableth moch, be commended therin?

3. क्या तेरे बड़े बोल के कारण लोग चुप रहें? और जब तू ठट्ठा करता है, तो क्या कोई तुझे लज्जित न करे?

3. Shulde men geue eare vnto the only? Thou wilt laugh other men to scorne, & shal no body mocke the agayne?

4. तू तो यह कहता है कि मेरा सिठ्ठान्त शुठ्ठ है और मैं ईश्वर की दृष्टि में पवित्रा हूँ।

4. Wilt thou saye vnto God: The thinge that I take in honde, is perfecte, & I am clene in thy sight?

5. परन्तु भला हो, कि ईश्वर स्वयं बातें करें, और तेरे विरूद्ध मुंह खोले,

5. O that God wolde speake, and open his lippes agaynst the,

6. और तुझ पर बुध्दि की गुप्त बातें प्रगट करे, कि उनका मर्म तेरी बुध्दि से बढ़कर है। इसलिये जान ले, कि ईश्वर तेरे अधर्म में से बहुत कुछ भूल जाता है।

6. that he might shewe the (out of his secrete wy?dome) how manyfolde his lawe is: then shuldest thou knowe, that God had forgotten the, because of thy synnes.

7. क्या तू ईश्वर का गूढ़ भेद पा सकता है? और क्या तू सर्वशक्तिमान का मर्म पूरी रीति से चांच सकता है?

7. Wilt thou fynde out God with thy sekynge? wilt thou attayne to the perfectnesse of the Allmightie?

8. वह आकाश सा ऊंचा है; तू क्या कर सकता है? वह अधोलोक से गहिरा है, तू कहां समझ सकता है?

8. He is hyer the heaue, what wilt thou do? Deper the hell, how wilt thou then knowe him?

9. उसकी माप पृथ्वी से भी लम्बी है और समुद्र से चौड़ी है।

9. His length exceadeth the length of the earth, and his bredth ye bredth of the see.

10. जब ईश्वर बीच से गुजरकर बन्द कर दे और अदालत में बुलाए, तो कौन उसको रोक सकता है।

10. Though he turne all thinges vpsyde downe, close them in, or thrust the together, who darre check him therfore?

11. क्योंकि वह पाखणडी मनुष्यों का भेद जानता है, और अनर्थ काम को बिना सोच विचार किए भी जान लेता है।

11. For it is he, that knoweth the vanite of men: he seyth their wickednesse also, shulde he not then considre it?

12. पनन्तु मनुष्य छूछा और निर्बुध्दि होता है; क्योंकि मनुष्य जन्म ही से जंगली गदहे के बच्चे के समान होता है।

12. A vayne body exalteth him self, and the sonne of man is like a wylde asses foale.

13. यदि तू अपना मन शुठ्ठ करे, और ईश्वर की ओर अपने हाथ फैलाए,

13. Yf thou haddest now a right herte, & liftest vp thine hondes towarde him:

14. और जो कोई अनर्थ काम तुझ से होता हो उसे दूर करे, और अपने डेरों में कोई कुटिलता न रहने दे,

14. yf thou woldest put awaye the wickednesse, which thou hast in honde, so that no vngodlynesse dwelt in thy house:

15. तब तो तू निश्चय अपना मुंह निष्कलंक दिखा सकेगा; और तू स्थ्रि होकर कभी न डरेगा।

15. Then mightest thou lift vp thy face without shame, the shuldest thou be sure, and haue no nede to feare.

16. तब तू अपना दु:ख भूल जाएगा, तू उसे उस पानी के समान स्मरण करेगा जो बह गया हो।

16. Then shuldest thou forget thy misery, and thynke nomore vpon it, then vpon the waters that runne by.

17. और तेरा जीवन दोपहर से भी अधिक प्रकाशमान होगा; और चाहे अन्धेरा भी हो तौभी वह भोर सा हो जाएगा।

17. Then shulde thy life be as cleare as the noone daye, and sprynge forth as the mornynge.

18. और तुझे आशा होगी, इस कारण तू निर्भय रहेगा; और अपने चारों ओर देख देखकर तू निर्भय विश्राम कर सकेगा।

18. Then mightest thou haue comforth, in the hope that thou hast: & slepe quyetly, when thou art buried.

19. और जब तू लेटेगा, तब कोई तुझे डराएगा नहीं; और बहुतेरे तुझे प्रसन्न करते का यत्न करेंगे।

19. Then shuldest thou take thy rest, and no ma to make the afrayed, yee many one shulde set moch by the.

20. परन्तु दुष्ट लोगों की आंखें रह जाएंगी, और उन्हें कोई शरूण स्थान न मिलेगा और उनकी आशा यही होगी कि प्राण निकल जाए।

20. As for the eyes of the vngodly, they shal be consumed, and not escape: their hope shalbe misery and sorow of mynde.
