1. और यहोवा ने शमूएल से कहा, मैं ने शाऊल को इस्राएल पर राज्य करने के लिये तुच्छ जाना है, तू कब तक उसके विषय विलाप करता रहेगा? अपने सींग में तेल भर के चल; मैं तुझ को बेतलेहेमी यिशै के पास भेजता हूं, क्योंकि मैं ने उसके पुत्रों में से एक को राजा होने के लिये चुना है।
लूका 3:31-32

1. And the LORD said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? Fill thy horn with oil and go; I will send thee to Jesse of Bethlehem for I have provided me a king among his sons.

2. शमूएल बोला, मैं क्योंकर जा सकता हूं? यदि शाऊल सुन लेगा, तो मुझे घात करेगा। यहोवा ने कहा, एक बछिया साथ ले जाकर कहना, कि मैं यहोवा के लिये यज्ञ करने को आया हूं।

2. And Samuel said, How can I go? If Saul understands [it], he will kill me. And the LORD said, Take a heifer with thee and say, I am come to sacrifice to the LORD.

3. और यज्ञ पर यिशै को न्योता देता, तब मैं तुझे जता दूंगा कि तुझ को क्या करना है; और जिसको मैं तुझे बताऊं उसी को मेरी ओर से अभिषेक करना।

3. And call Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show thee what thou shalt do, and thou shalt anoint unto me the one whom I name unto thee.

4. तब शमूएल ने यहोवा के कहने के अनुसार किया, और बेतलहेम को गया। उस नगर के पुरनिये थरथराते हुए उस से मिलने को गए, और कहने लगे, क्या तू मित्राभाव से आया है कि नहीं?

4. And Samuel did as the LORD said and came to Bethlehem. And the elders of the town trembled at his coming and said, Comest thou peaceably?

5. उस ने कहा, हां, मित्राभाव से आया हूं; म्ें यहोवा के लिये यज्ञ करने को आया हूं; तुम अपने अपने को पवित्रा करके मेरे साथ यज्ञ में आओ। तब उस ने यिशै और उसके पुत्रों को पवित्रा करके यज्ञ में आने का न्योता दिया।

5. And he said, Peaceably; I am come to sacrifice unto the LORD; sanctify yourselves and come with me to the sacrifice. And he sanctified Jesse and his sons and called them to the sacrifice.

6. जब वे आए, तब उस ने एलीआब पर दृष्टि करके सोचा, कि निश्चय जो यहोवा के साम्हने है वही उसका अभिषिक्त होगा।

6. And it came to pass, when they were come, that he looked on Eliab and said, Peradventure is the LORD'S anointed before him?

7. परन्तु यहोवा ने शमूएल से कहा, न तो उसके रूप पर दृष्टि कर, और न उसके डील की ऊंचाई पर, क्योंकि मैं ने उसे अयोग्य जाना है; क्योंकि यहोवा का देखना मनुष्य का सा नहीं है; मनुष्य तो बाहर का रूप देखता है, परन्तु यहोवा की दृष्टि मन पर रहती है।

7. And the LORD replied unto Samuel, Do not look on his countenance or on the height of his stature because I have refused him, for it is not as man sees, for man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart.

8. तब यिशै ने अबीनादाब को बुलाकर शमूएल के साम्हने भेजा। और उस से कहा, यहोवा ने इसको भी नहीं चुना।

8. Then Jesse called Abinadab and made him pass before Samuel. And he said, Neither has the LORD chosen this one.

9. फिर यिशै ने शम्मा को साम्हने भेजा। और उस ने कहा, यहोवा ने इसको भी नहीं चुना।

9. Then Jesse made Shammah to pass by. And he said, Neither has the LORD chosen this one.

10. योंही यिशै ने अपने सात पुत्रों को शमूएल के साम्हने भेजा। और शमूएल यिशै से कहता गया, यहोवा ने इन्हें नहीं चुना।

10. Again, Jesse made his seven sons pass before Samuel, but Samuel said unto Jesse, The LORD has not chosen these.

11. तब शमूएल ने यिशै से कहा, क्या सब लड़के आ गए? वह बोला, नहीं, लहुरा तो रह गया, और वह भेड़- बकरियों को चरा रहा है। शमूएल ने यिशै से कहा, उसे बुलवा भेज; क्योंकि जब तक वह यहां न आए तब तक हम खाने को न बैठेंगे।

11. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Are all [thy] young men here? And he said, There remains yet the youngest, and, behold, he keeps the sheep. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Send for him, for we will not sit down to the table until he comes here.

12. तब वह उसे बुलाकर भीतर ले आया। उसके तो लाली झलकती थी, और उसकी आंखें सुन्दर, और उसका रूप सुडौल था। तब यहोवा ने कहा, उठकर इस का अभिषेक कर: यही है।
प्रेरितों के काम 13:22

12. And he sent and brought him in. Now he [was] ruddy [and] of a beautiful countenance and handsome. And the LORD said, Arise, anoint him, for this [is] he.

13. तब शमूएल ने अपना तेल का सींग लेकर उसके भाइयों के मध्य में उसका अभिषेक किया; और उस दिन से लेकर भविष्य को यहोवा का आत्मा दाऊद पर बल से उतरता रहा। तब शमूएल उठकर रामा को चला गया।।

13. Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him from among his brethren; and the Spirit of the LORD prospered David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up and went to Ramah.

14. और यहोवा का आत्मा शाऊल पर से उठ गया, और यहोवा की ओर से एक दुष्ट आत्मा उसे घबराने लगा।

14. But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him.

15. और शाऊल के कर्मचारियों ने उस से कहा, सुन, परमेश्वर की ओर से एक दुष्ट आत्मा तुझे घबराता है।

15. And Saul's servants said unto him, Behold now, an evil spirit from God troubles thee.

16. हमारा प्रभु अपने कर्मचारियों को जो उपस्थित हैं आज्ञा दे, कि वे किसी अच्छे वीणा बजानेवाले को ढूंढ़ ले आएं; और जब जब परमेश्वर की ओर से दुष्ट आत्मा तुझ पर चढ़े, तब तब वह अपने हाथ से बजाए, और तू अच्छा हो जाए।

16. Let our lord now command thy servants, [which are] before thee, to seek out a man [who is] a cunning player on a harp, and it shall come to pass, when the evil spirit from God is upon thee, that he shall play with his hand and thou shalt have relief.

17. शाऊल ने अपने कर्मचारियों से कहा, अच्छा, एक उत्तम बजवैया देखो, और उसे मेरे पास लाओ।

17. And Saul said unto his servants, Provide me now a man that can play well and bring [him] to me.

18. तब एक जवान ने उत्तर देके कहा, सुन, मैं ने बेतलहमी यिशै के एक पुत्रा को देखा जो वीणा बजाना जानता है, और वह वीर योद्धा भी है, और बात करने में बुद्धिमान और रूपवान भी है; और यहोवा उसके साथ रहता है।

18. Then one of the servants answered and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse of Bethlehem, [that is] cunning in playing and a mighty valiant man and a man of war and prudent in speech and handsome, and the LORD [is] with him.

19. तब शाऊल ने दूतों के हाथ यिशै के पास कहला भेजा, कि अपने पुत्रा दाऊद को जो भेड़- बकरियों के साथ रहता है मेरे पास भेज दे।

19. Therefore Saul sent messengers unto Jesse and said, Send me David, thy son, who [is] with the sheep.

20. तब यिशै ने रोटी से लदा हुआ एक गदहा, और कुप्पा भर दाखमधु, और बकरी का एक बच्चा लेकर अपने पुत्रा दाऊद के हाथ से शाऊल के पास भेज दिया।

20. And Jesse took an ass [laden] with bread and a bottle of wine and a kid and sent [them] by David, his son, unto Saul.

21. और दाऊद शाऊल के पास जाकर उसके साम्हने उपस्थित रहने लगा। और शाऊल उस से बहुत प्रीति करने लगा, और वह उसका हथियार ढोनेवाला हो गया।

21. And David came to Saul and stood before him; and he loved him greatly, and he became his armourbearer.

22. तब शाऊल ने यिशै के पास कहला भेजा, कि दाऊद को मेरे साम्हने उपस्थित रहने दे, क्योंकि मैं उस से बहुत प्रसन्न हूं।

22. And Saul sent to Jesse, saying, Let David, I pray thee, stand before me, for he has found favour in my sight.

23. और जब जब परमेश्वर की ओर से वह आत्मा शाऊल पर चढ़ता था, तब तब दाऊद वीणा लेकर बजाता; और शाऊल चैन पाकर अच्छा हो जाता था, और वह दुष्ट आत्मा उस में से हट जाता था।।

23. And it came to pass, when the [evil] spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took a harp and played with his hand; so Saul was refreshed and was better, and the evil spirit departed from him.:
