1. तब एप्रैमी पुरूषों ने गिदाने से कहा, तू ने हमारे साथ ऐसा बर्ताव क्यों किया है, कि जब तू मिद्यान से लड़ने को चला तब हम को नहीं बुलवाया? सो उन्हों ने उस से बड़ा झगड़ा किया।

1. The men of Ephraim were angry with Gideon. When they found him, they asked, 'Why did you treat us this way? Why didn't you call us when you went to fight against the Midianites?'

2. उस ने उन से कहा, मैं ने तुम्हारे समान भला अब किया ही क्या है? क्या एप्रैम की छोड़ी हुई दाख भी अबीएजेर की सब फसल से अच्छी नहीं है?

2. But Gideon answered the men of Ephraim, 'I have not done as well as you. You people of Ephraim have a much better harvest than my family, the Abiezers. At harvest time you leave more grapes in the vineyard than my family gathers! Isn't that true?

3. तुम्हारे ही हाथों में परमेश्वर ने ओरब और जेब नाम मिद्यान के हाकिमों को कर दिया; तब तुम्हारे बराबर मैं कर ही क्या सका? जब उस ने यह बात कही, तब उनका जी उसकी ओर से ठंड़ा हो गया।।

3. In the same way you have a better harvest now. God allowed you to capture Oreb and Zeeb, the leaders of Midian. How can I compare my success with what you did?' When the men of Ephraim heard Gideon's answer, they were not as angry as they had been.

4. तब गिदोन और उसके संग तीनों सौ पुरूष, जो थके मान्दे थे तौभी खदेड़ते ही रहे थे, यरदन के तीर आकर पार हो गए।

4. Then Gideon and his 300 men came to the Jordan River and went across to the other side, but they were tired and hungry.

5. तब उस ने सुक्कोत के लोगों से कहा, मेरे पीछे इन आनेवालों को रोटियां दो, क्योंकि ये थके मान्दे हैं; और मैं मिद्यान के जेबह और सल्मुन्ना नाम राजाओं का पीछा कर रहा हूं।

5. Gideon said to the men of the city of Succoth, 'Give my soldiers something to eat. They are very tired. We are still chasing Zebah and Zalmunna, kings of Midian.'

6. सुक्कोत के हाकिमों ने उत्तर दिया, क्या जेबह और सल्मुन्ना तेरे हाथ में पड़ चुके हैं, कि हम तेरी सेना को रोटी दे?

6. But the leaders of the city of Succoth said to Gideon, 'Why should we give your soldiers something to eat? You haven't caught Zebah and Zalmunna yet.'

7. गिदोन ने कहा, जब यहोवा जेबह और सल्मुन्ना को मेरे हाथ में कर देगा, तब मैं इस बात के कारण तुम को जंगल के कटीले और बिच्छू पेड़ों से नुचवाऊंगा।

7. Then Gideon said, 'The Lord will help me capture Zebah and Zalmunna. And since you would not give us any food, I will come back and beat you with thorns and briers from the desert.'

8. वहां से वह पनूएल को गया, और वहां के लोगों से ऐसी ही बात कही; और पनूएल के लोगों ने सुक्कोत के लोगों का सा उत्तर दिया।

8. Gideon left the city of Succoth and went to the city of Penuel. He asked the men of Penuel for food, just as he had asked the men of Succoth. But the men of Penuel gave Gideon the same answer that the men of Succoth had given.

9. उस ने पनूएल के लोगों से कहा, जब मैं कुशल से लौट आऊंगा, तब इस गुम्मट को ढा दूंगा।।

9. So Gideon said to the men of Penuel, 'After I win the victory, I will come back here and pull this tower down.'

10. जेबह और सल्मुन्ना तो कर्कोर में थे, और उनके साथ कोई पन्द्रह हजार पुरूषों की सेना थी, क्योंकि पूर्वियों की सारी सेना में से उतने ही रह गए थे; जो मारे गए थे वे एक लाख बीस हजार हथियारबन्द थे।

10. Zebah and Zalmunna and their army were in the city of Karkor. Their army had 15,000 soldiers in it. These soldiers were all who were left of the army of the people of the east. 120,000 strong soldiers of that army had already been killed.

11. तब गिदोन ने नोबह और योग्बहा के पूर्व की ओर डेरों में रहनेवालों के मार्ग में चढ़कर उस सेना को जो निडर पड़ी थी मार लिया।

11. Gideon and his men used Tent Dwellers' Road, which is east of the cities of Nobah and Jogbehah and attacked the enemy at Karkor. The enemy army did not expect the attack.

12. और जब जेबह और सल्मुन्ना को पकड़ लिया, और सारी सेना को भगा दिया।

12. Zebah and Zalmunna, kings of the Midianites, ran away. But Gideon chased and caught them. Gideon and his men defeated the enemy army.

13. और योआश का पुत्रा गिदोन हेरेस नाम चढ़ाई पर से लड़ाई से लौटा।

13. Then Gideon son of Joash returned from the battle. He and his men returned by going through a mountain pass called the Pass of Heres.

14. और सुक्कोत के एक जवान पुरूष को पकड़कर उस से पूछा, और उस ने सुक्कोत के सतहत्तरों हाकिमों और वृद्ध लोगों के पते लिखवाये।

14. Gideon captured a young man from the city of Succoth. He asked the young man some questions. The young man wrote down some names for Gideon. The young man wrote down the names of the leaders and elders of the city of Succoth. He gave Gideon the names of 77 men.

15. तब वह सुक्कोत के मनुष्यों के पास जाकर कहने लगा, जेबह और सल्मुन्ना को देखा, जिनके विषय में तुम ने यह कहकर मुझे चिढ़ाया था, कि क्या जेबह और सल्मुन्ना अभी तेरे हाथ में हैं, कि हम तेरे थके मान्दे जनों को रोटी दें?

15. When Gideon came to the city of Succoth, he said to the men of that city, 'Here are Zebah and Zalmunna. You made fun of me by saying, 'Why should we give food to your tired soldiers? You have not caught Zebah and Zalmunna yet.''

16. तब उस ने उस नगर के वृद्ध लोगों को पकड़ा, और जंगल के कटीले और बिच्छू पेड़ लेकर सुक्कोत के पुरूषों को कुछ सिखाया।

16. Gideon took the elders of the city of Succoth, and he beat them with thorns and briers from the desert to punish them.

17. और उस ने पनूएल के गुम्मट को ढा दिया, और उस नगर के मनुष्यों को घात किया।

17. Gideon also pulled down the tower in the city of Penuel and killed the men living in that city.

18. फिर उस ने जेबह और सल्मुन्ना से पूछा, जो मनुष्य तुम ने ताबोर पर घात किए थे वे कैसे थे? उन्हों ने उत्तर दिया, जैसा तू वैसे ही वे भी थे अर्थात् एक एक का रूप राजकुमार का सा था।

18. Then Gideon said to Zebah and Zalmunna, 'You killed some men on Mount Tabor. What were the men like?' Zebah and Zalmunna answered, 'They were like you. Each one of them seemed like a prince.'

19. उस ने कहा, वे तो मेरे भाई, वरन मेरे सहोदर भाई थे; यहोवा के जीवन की शपथ, यदि तुम ने उनको जीवित छोड़ा होता, तो मैं तुम को घान न करता।

19. Gideon said, 'Those men were my brothers, my mother's sons! As the Lord lives, if you had not killed them, I would not kill you now.'

20. तब उस ने अपने जेठे पुत्रा यतेरे से कहा, उठकर इन्हें घात कर। परन्तु जवान ने अपनी तलवार न खींची, क्योंकि वह उस समय तक लड़का ही था, इसलिये वह डर गया।

20. Then Gideon turned to Jether, his oldest son, and said, 'Kill these kings.' But Jether was only a boy and was afraid, so he would not take out his sword.

21. तब जेबह और सल्मुन्ना ने कहा, तू उठकर हम पर प्रहार कर; क्योंकि जैसा पुरूष हो, वैसा ही उसका पौरूष भी होगा। तब गिदोन ने उठकर जेबह और सल्मुन्ना को घात किया; और उनके ऊंटों के गलों के चन्द्रहारों को ले लिया।।

21. Then Zebah and Zalmunna said to Gideon, 'Come on, kill us yourself. You are a man and strong enough to do the job.' So Gideon got up and killed Zebah and Zalmunna. Then Gideon took the decorations shaped like the moon off their camels' necks.

22. तब इस्राएल के पुरूषों ने गिदोन से कहा, तू हमारे ऊपर प्रभुता कर, तू और तेरा पुत्रा और पोता भी प्रभुता करे; क्योंकि तू ने हम को मिद्यान के हाथ से छुड़ाया है।

22. The Israelites said to Gideon, 'You saved us from the Midianites. So now rule over us. We want you, your son, and your grandson to rule over us.'

23. गिदोन ने उन से कहा, मैं तुम्हारे ऊपर प्रभुता न करूंगा, और न मेरा पुत्रा तुम्हारे ऊपर प्रभुता करेगा; यहोवा ही तुम पर प्रभुता करेगा।

23. But Gideon told the Israelites, 'The Lord will be your ruler. I will not rule over you, and my son will not rule over you.'

24. फिर गिदोन ने उन से कहा, मैं तुम से कुछ मांगता हूं; अर्थात् तुम मुझ को अपनी अपनी लूट में की बालियां दो। (वे तो इशमाएली थे, इस कारण उनकी बालियां सोने की थीं।) उन्हों ने कहा, निश्चय हम देंगे।

24. Some of the people who the men of Israel defeated were Ishmaelites. And the Ishmaelite men wore gold earrings. So Gideon said to the Israelites, 'I want you to do this one thing for me. I want each of you to give me a gold earring from the things you took in the battle.'

25. तब उन्हों ने कपड़ा बिछाकर उस में अपनी अपनी लूट में से निकालकर बालियां डाल दीं।

25. The Israelites said to Gideon, 'We will gladly give you what you want.' So they put a coat down on the ground, and each man threw an earring onto the coat.

26. जो सोने की बालियां उस ने मांग लीं उनका तौल एक हजार सात सौ शेकेल हुआ; और उनको छोड़ चन्द्रहार, झुमके, और बैंगनी रंग के वस्त्रा जो मिद्यानियों के राजा पहिने थे, और उनके ऊंटों के गलों की जंजीर।

26. When the earrings were gathered up, they weighed about 43 pounds. This did not include the other gifts the Israelites gave to Gideon. They also gave him jewelry shaped like the moon and jewelry shaped like teardrops. And they gave him purple robes. The kings of the Midianites had worn these things. They also gave him the chains from the camels of the Midianite kings.

27. उनका गिदोन ने एक एपोद बनवाकर अपने ओप्रा नाम नगर में रखा; और सब इस्राएल वहां व्यभिचारिणी की नाईं उसके पीछे हो लिया, और वह गिदोन और उसके घराने के लिये फन्दा ठहरा।

27. Gideon used the gold to make an ephod, which he put in his hometown, the town called Ophrah. All the Israelites worshiped the ephod. In this way the Israelites were not faithful to God�they worshiped the ephod. The ephod became a trap that caused Gideon and his family to sin.

28. इस प्रकार मिद्यान इस्रालियों से दब गया, और फिर सिर न उठाया। और गिदोन के जीवन भर अर्थात् चालीस वर्ष तक देश चैन से रहा।

28. The Midianites were forced to be under the rule of the Israelites. The Midianites did not cause trouble anymore. And the land was at peace for 40 years, as long as Gideon was alive.

29. योआश का पुत्रा यरूब्बाल तो जाकर अपने घर में रहने लगा।

29. Jerub Baal (Gideon) son of Joash went home.

30. और गिदोन के सत्तर बेटे उत्पन्न हुए, क्योंकि उसके बहुत स्त्रियां थीं।

30. Gideon had 70 sons of his own. He had so many sons because he had many wives.

31. और उसकी जो एक रखेली शकेम में रहती थी उसके एक पुत्रा उत्पन्न हुआ, और गिदोन ने उसका नाम अबीमेलेक रखा।

31. He had a slave woman who lived in the city of Shechem. He had a son by her. He named that son Abimelech.

32. निदान योआश का पुत्रा गिदोन पूरे बुढ़ापे में मर गया, और अबीएजेरियों के ओप्रा नाम गांव में उसके पिता योआश की कबर में उसको मिट्टी दी गई।।

32. So Gideon son of Joash died at a good old age. He was buried in the tomb that Joash, his father, owned. That tomb is in the city of Ophrah, where the family of Abiezer lives.

33. गिदोन के मरते ही इस्राएली फिर गए, और व्यभिचारिणी की नाईं बाल देवताओं के पीछे हो लिए, और बालबरीत को अपना देवता मान लिया।

33. As soon as Gideon died, the Israelites again were not faithful to God�they followed Baal. They made Baal Berith their god.

34. और इस्राएलियों ने अपने परमेश्वर यहोवा को, जिस ने उनको चारों ओर के सब शत्रुओं के हाथ से छुड़ाया था, स्मरण न रखा;

34. The Israelites did not remember the Lord their God, even though the Lord had saved them from all their enemies who were living all around them.

35. और न उन्हों ने यरूब्बाल अर्थात् गिदोन की उस सारी भलाई के अनुसार जो उस ने इस्राएलियों के साथ की थी उसके घराने को प्रीति दिखाई।।

35. The Israelites were not loyal to the family of Jerub Baal, even though he had done many good things for them.
