1. तब एप्रैमी पुरूष इकट्ठे होकर सापोन को जाकर यिप्तह से कहने लगे, कि जब तू अम्मोनियों से लड़ने को गया तब हमें संग चलने को क्यों नहीं बुलवाया? हम तेरा घर तुझ समेत जला देंगे।

1. And the men of Ephraim gathered themselves together towards the Aquilon and said unto Jephthah, Why didst thou go over to fight against the sons of Ammon and didst not call us to go with thee? We will burn thy house upon thee with fire.

2. यिप्तह ने उन से कहा, मेरा और मेरे लोगों का अम्मोनियों से बड़ा झगड़ा हुआ था; और जब मैं ने तुम से सहायता मांगी, तब तुम ने मुझे उनके हाथ से नहीं बचाया।

2. And Jephthah replied unto them, I and my people were at great strife with the sons of Ammon, and when I called you, ye did not defend me from their hands.

3. तब यह देखकर कि तुम मुझे नहीं बचाते मैं अपने प्राणों को हथेली पर रखकर अम्मोनियों के विरूद्ध चला, और यहोवा ने उनको मेरे हाथ में कर दिया; फिर तुम अब मुझ से लड़ने को क्यों चढ़ आए हो?

3. Seeing, therefore, that ye did not defend [me], I put my life in my hands and went over against the sons of Ammon, and the LORD delivered them into my hand. Why then have ye come up against me this day to fight with me?

5. और गिलादियों ने यरदन का घाट उन से पहिले अपने वश में कर लिया। और जब कोई एप्रैमी भगोड़ा कहता, कि मुझे पार जाने दो, तब गिलाद के पुरूष उस से पूछते थे, क्या तू एप्रैमी है? और यदि वह कहता नहीं,

5. And the Gileadites took the passages of the Jordan from Ephraim; and it was [such] that when any of those of Ephraim who had escaped would say, May I pass? The men of Gilead would ask them, [Art] thou an Ephrathite? If he said, No;

6. then they would say unto him, Now say Shibboleth. And he would say Cibboleth; for he could not pronounce [it] the same. Then they would take him and slay him at the passages of the Jordan. And at that time forty-two thousand of those of Ephraim fell.

7. यिप्तह छ: वर्ष तक इस्राएल का न्याय करता रहा। तब यिप्तह गिलादी मर गया, और उसको गिलाद के किसी नगर में मिट्टी दी गई।।

7. And Jephthah judged Israel six years. Then Jephthah the Gileadite died and was buried in [one of] the cities of Gilead.

8. उसके बाद बेतलेहेम का निवासी इबसान इस्राएल का न्याय करने लगा।

8. After him Ibzan, of Bethlehem, judged Israel,

9. और उसके तीस बेटे हुए; और उस ने अपनी तीस बेटियां बाहर ब्याह दीं, और बाहर से अपने बेटों का ब्याह करके तीस बहू ले आया। और वह इस्राएल का न्याय सात वर्ष तक करता रहा।

9. who had thirty sons and thirty daughters, [whom] he married abroad and took in thirty daughters from abroad for his sons. And he judged Israel seven years.

10. तब इबसान मर गया, और उसको बेतलेहेम में मिट्टी दी गई।।

10. Then Ibzan died and was buried at Bethlehem.

11. उसके बाद जबूलूनी एलोन इस्राएल का न्याय करने लगा; और वह इस्राएल का न्याय दस वर्ष तक करता रहा।

11. And after him Elon, a Zebulonite, judged Israel, and he judged Israel ten years.

12. तब एलोन जबूलूनी मर गया, और उसको जबूलून के देश के अरयालोन में मिट्टी दी गई।।

12. And Elon, the Zebulonite, died and was buried in Aijalon in the country of Zebulun.

13. उसके बाद हिल्लेल का पुत्रा पिरातोनी अब्दोन इस्राएल का न्याय करने लगा।

13. And after him Abdon, the son of Hillel, a Pirathonite, judged Israel.

14. और उसके चालीस बेटे और तीस पोते हुए, जो गदहियों के सत्तर बच्चों पर सवार हुआ करते थे। वह आठ वर्ष तक इस्राएल का न्याय करता रहा।

14. And he had forty sons and thirty grandsons that rode on seventy he-asses, and he judged Israel eight years.

15. तब हिल्लेल का पुत्रा पिरातोनी अब्दोन मर गया, और उसको एप्रैम के देश के पिरातोन में, जो अमालेकियों के पहाड़ी देश में है, मिट्टी दी गई।।

15. And Abdon, the son of Hillel the Pirathonite, died and was buried in Pirathon in the land of Ephraim in the mount of Amalek.:
