1. सो जब कि मसीह ने शरीर में होकर दुख उठाया तो तुम भी उस ही मनसा को धारण करके हथियार बान्ध लो क्योंकि जिस शरीर में दुख उठाया, वह पाप से छूट गया।

1. Forasmuch as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he which suffereth in the flesh ceaseth from sin,

2. ताकि भविष्य में अपना शेष शारीरिक जीवन मनुष्यों की अभिलाषाओं के अनुसार नहीं बरन परमेश्वर की इच्छा के अनुसार व्यतीत करो।

2. that he henceforward should live as much time as remaineth in the flesh, not after the lusts of men: but after the will of God.

3. क्योंकि अन्यजातियों की इच्छा के अनुसार काम करने, और लुचपन की बुरी अभिलाषाओं, मतवालापन, लीलाक्रीड़ा, पियक्कड़पन, और घृणित मूत्तिपूजा में जहां तक हम ने पहिले से समय गंवाया, वही बहुत हुआ।

3. For it is sufficient for us that we have spent the time that is past of the life, after the will of the gentiles,(Heythen) walking in wantonness lusts, drunkenness, in (excess of) eating,(glutony) (excess of) drinking,(riotous drinking) and in abominable idolatry.

4. इस से वे अचम्भा करते हैं, कि तुम ऐसे भारी लुचपन में उन का साथ नहीं देते, और इसलिये वे बुरा भला कहते हैं।

4. And it seemeth to them a strange thing that ye run not also with them unto the same excess of riot, and therefore speak they evil of you,

5. पर वे उस को जो जीवतों और मरे हुओं का न्याय करने को तैयार हैं, लेखा देंगे।

5. which shall give account(acomptes) to him that is ready to judge quick and dead.(is ready to judge the quick and the dead)

6. क्योंकि मरे हुओं को भी सुसमाचार इसी लिये सुनाया गया, कि शरीर में तो मनुष्यों के अनुसार उन का न्याय हो, पर आत्मा में वे परमेश्वर के अनुसार जीवित रहें।।

6. For unto this purpose verily was the gospel(gospell) preached unto the dead, that they should be judged after the manner of(judged like other) men in the flesh, but should live godly in the spirit.(that they should be condemned of men in the flesh, but should live before God in the spirit)

7. सब बातों का अन्त तुरन्त होनेवाला है; इसलिये संयमी होकर प्रार्थना के लिये सचेत रहो।

7. The end of all things is at hand. Be ye therefore discreet, and sober, that ye may be apt to(and watch unto) prayers.

8. और सब में श्रेष्ठ बात यह है कि एक दूसरे से अधिक प्रेम रखो; क्योंकि प्रेम अनेक पापों को ढ़ाप देता है।
नीतिवचन 10:12

8. But above all things have fervent love among you.(among you one to another) For love covereth the multitude of sins.

9. बिना कुड़कुड़ाए एक दूसरे की पहुनाई करो।

9. Be ye harborous, (one to another) and that without grudging.

10. जिस को जो वरदान मिला है, वह उसे परमेश्वर के नाना प्रकार के अनुग्रह के भले भण्डारियों की नाई एक दूसरे की सेवा में लगाए।

10. As every man hath received the gift, minister the same one to another as good ministers(stewards) of the manyfold grace of God.

11. यदि कोई बोले, तो ऐसा बोले, मानों परमेश्वर का वचन है; यदि कोई सेवा करे; तो उस शक्ति से करे जो परमेश्वर देता है; जिस से सब बातों मे यीशु मसीह के द्वारा, परमेश्वर की महिमा प्रगट हो: महिमा और साम्राज्य युगानुयुग उसी की है। आमीन।।

11. If any man speak, let him talk as though he speak(spake) the words of God. If any man minister,(have an office) let him do it as of the ability(power) which God ministereth unto him. That God in all things may be glorified(praised) thorow Jesus Christ, to whom be praise(honor) and dominion for ever and while the world standeth(for ever and ever) Amen.

12. हे प्रियों, जो दुख रूपी अग्नि तुम्हारे परखने के लिये तुम में भड़की है, इस से यह समझकर अचम्भा न करो कि कोई अनोखी बात तुम पर बीत रही है।

12. Dearly beloved, be not troubled in(marvel not at) this heat, which now is come among you to try you, as though some strange thing had happened unto you:

13. पर जैसे जैसे मसीह के दुखों में सहभागी होते हो, आनन्द करो, जिस से उसकी महिमा के प्रगट होते समय भी तुम आनन्दित और मगन हो।

13. but rejoice inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's(Christes) passions, that when his glory appeareth, ye may be merry and glad.

14. फिर यदि मसीह के नाम के लिये तुम्हारी निन्दा की जाती है, तो धन्य हो; क्योंकि महिमा का आत्मा, जो परमेश्वर का आत्मा है, तुम पर छाया करता है।
भजन संहिता 89:50-51, यशायाह 11:2

14. Happy are ye when ye suffer rebuke for the name of Christ.(If ye be railed upon for the name of Christ happy are ye.) For the spirit of glory and the spirit of God resteth upon you. On their part he is evil spoken of: but on your part he is glorified.(praised)

15. तुम में से कोई व्यक्ति हत्यारा या चोर, या कुकर्मी होने, या पराए काम में हाथ डालने के कारण दुख न पाए।

15. See that none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief,(murthurer) or an evil doer, or as a busybody in other men's matters.

16. पर यदि मसीही होने के कारण दुख पाए, तो लज्जित न हो, पर इस बात के लिये परमेश्वर की महिमा करे।

16. If any man suffer as a Christian man, let him not be ashamed: but let him glorify(praise) God on this(his) behalf.

17. क्योंकि वह समय आ पहुंचा है, कि पहिले परमेश्वर के लोगों का न्याय किया जाए, और जब कि न्याय का आरम्भ हम ही से होगा तो उन का क्या अन्त होगा जो परमेश्वर के सुसमाचार को नहीं मानते?
यिर्मयाह 25:29, यहेजकेल 9:6

17. For the time is come that judgement must begin at the house of God. If it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them which believe not the gospel(gospell) of God?

18. और यदि धर्मी व्यक्ति ही कठिनता से उद्धार पाएगा, तो भक्तिहीन और पापी का क्या ठिकाना?
नीतिवचन 11:31

18. And if the righteous scarcely be saved: where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?

19. इसलिये जो परमेश्वर की इच्छा के अनुसार दुख उठाते हैं, वे भलाई करते हुए, अपने अपने प्राण को विश्वासयोग्य सृजनहार के हाथ में सौंप दें।।
भजन संहिता 31:5

19. Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God, commit their souls to him with well doing, as unto a faithful creator.
