1. जब एप्रैम बोलता था, तब लोग कांपते थे; और जब इस्राएल में बड़ा था; परन्तु जब वह बाल के कारण दोषी हो गया, तब वह मर गया।

1. When Ephraim spoke [everyone] feared, he was exalted in Israel; but he was found guilty in Baal and died.

2. और अब वे लोग पाप पर पाप बढ़ाते जाते हैं, और अपनी बुद्धि से चान्दी ढालकर ऐसी मूरतें बनाई हैं जो कारीगरों ही से बनीं। उन्हीं के विषय लोग कहते हैं, जो नरमेघ करें, वे बछड़ों को चूमें!

2. And now they sin more and more, and of their silver they have made molten images according to their own intelligence, idols, all of it the work of the craftsmen; they say of them, Let the men that sacrifice kiss the calves.

3. इस कारण वे भोर के मेघ, तड़के सूख जानेवाली ओस, खलिहान पर से आंधी के मारे उड़नेवाली भूसी, या चिमनी से निकलते हुए धूएं के समान होंगे।।

3. Therefore they shall be as the morning mist and as the early dew that passes away, as the chaff [that] is driven with the whirlwind out of the threshing floor and as the smoke out of the chimney.

4. मि देश ही से मैं यहोवा, तेरा परमेश्वर हूं; तू मुझे छोड़ किसी को परमेश्वर करके न जानना; क्योंकि मेरे सिवा कोई तेरा उद्धारकर्ता नहीं हैं।

4. Yet I [am] the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt; therefore thou shalt know no God other than me, nor any other saviour but me.

5. मैं ने उस समय तुझ पर मन लगाया जब तू जंगल में वरन अत्यन्त सूखे देश में था।

5. I knew thee in the wilderness, in the dry land.

6. परन्तु जब इस्राएली चराए जाते थे और वे तृप्त हो गए, तब तृप्त होने पर उनका मन घमण्ड से भर गया; इस कारण वे मुझ को भूल गए।

6. In their pastures, they filled themselves; they were satisfied, and their heart was exalted; for this reason they have forgotten me.

7. सो मैं उनके लिये सिंह सा बना हूं; मैं चीते की नाईं उनके मार्ग में घात लगाए रहूंगा।

7. Therefore I will be unto them as a lion; as a tiger in the way I will observe [them]:

8. मैं बच्चे छीनी हुई रीछनी के समान बनकर उनको मिलूंगा, और उनके हृदय की झिल्ली को फाडूंगा, और सिंह की नाईं उनको वहीं खा डालूंगा, जैसे बन- पशु उनको फाड़ डाले।।

8. I will meet them as a bear [that is] bereaved [of her whelps] and will rend the veil of their heart, and there I will devour them like a lion: the wild beast shall tear them apart.

9. हे इस्राएल, तेरे विनाश का कारण यह है, कि तू मेरा अर्थात् अपने सहायक का विरोधी है।

9. O Israel, thou hast caused thyself to become lost, but in me [is] thine help.

10. अब तेरा राजा कहां रहा कि तेरे सब नगरों में वह तुझे बचाए? और तेरे न्यायी कहां रहे, जिनके विषय में तू ने कहा था कि मेरे लिये राजा और हाकिम ठहरा दें?

10. Where is thy king, that may save thee with all thy cities? and thy judges of whom thou didst say, Give me a king and princes?

11. मैं ने क्रोध में आकर तेरे लिये राजा बनाये, और फिर जलजलाहट में आकर उनको हटा भी दिया।

11. I gave thee a king in my anger and took [him] away in my wrath.

12. एप्रैम का अधर्म गठा हुआ है, उनका पाप संचय किया हुआ है।

12. The iniquity of Ephraim [is] bound up; his sin [is] hid.

13. उसको जच्चा की सी पीड़ाए उठेंगी, परन्तु वह निर्बुद्धि लड़का है जो जन्म के समय ठीक से नहीं आता।

13. The sorrows of a travailing woman shall come upon him; he [is] an unwise son; for a long time now he should not have stopped short at the very breaking forth of birth.

14. मैं उसको अधोलोक के वश से छुड़ा लूंगा और मृत्यु से उसको छुटकारा दूंगा। हे मृत्यु, तेरी मारने की शक्ति कहां रही? हे अधोलोक, तेरी नाश करने की शक्ति कहां रहीं? मैं फिर कभी नहीं पछताऊंगा।।

14. I will ransom them from the power of Sheol; I will redeem them from death; O death, I will be thy end; O Sheol, I will be thy destruction. Repentance shall be hid from my eyes.

15. चाहे वह अपने भाइयों से अधिक फूलें- फलें, तौभी पुरवाई उस पर चलेगी, और यहोवा की ओर से मरूस्थल से आएगी, और उसका कुण्ड सूखेगा; और उसका सोता निर्जन हो जाएगा। उसकी रखी हुई सब मनभावनी वस्तुएं वह लूट ले जाएगा।

15. Though he be fruitful among [his] brethren, the east wind shall come; the wind of the LORD shall come up from the wilderness, and his spring shall become dry, and his fountain shall be dried up; he shall spoil the treasure of all the vessels of desire.

16. सामरिया दोषी ठहरेगा, क्योंकि उस ने अपने परमेश्वर से बलवा किया है; वे तलवार से मारे जाएंगे, उनके बच्चे पटके जाएंगे, और उनकी गर्भवती स्त्रियां चीर डालीं जाएंगी।।

16. Samaria shall be condemned; for she has rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword; their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped open.:
