1. यरूशलेम की सड़कों में इधर उधर दौड़कर देखो ! उसके चौकों में ढूंढ़ो यदि कोई ऐसा मिल सके जो त्याय से काम करे और सच्चाई का खोजी हो; तो मैं उसका पाप क्षमा करूंगा।

1. RUN TO and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now and take notice! Seek in her broad squares to see if you can find a man [as Abraham sought in Sodom], one who does justice, who seeks truth, sincerity, and faithfulness; and I will pardon [Jerusalem--for one uncompromisingly righteous person]. [Gen. 18:22-32.]

2. यद्यमि उसके निवासी यहोवा के जीवन की शपथ भी खाएं, तौभी निश्चय वे झूठी शपथ खाते हैं।

2. And though they say, As the Lord lives, surely they swear falsely.

3. हे यहोवा, क्या तेरी दृष्टि सच्चाई पर नहीं है? तू ने उनको दु:ख दिया, परन्तु वे शोकित नहीं हुए; तू ने उनको नाश किया, परन्तु उन्हों ने ताड़ना से भी नहीं माना। उन्हों ने अपना मन चट्टान से भी अधिक कठोर किया है; उन्हों ने पश्चात्ताप करने से इनकार किया है।

3. O Lord, do not your eyes look on the truth? [They have meant to please You outwardly, but You look on their hearts.] You have stricken them, but they have not grieved; You have consumed them, but they have refused to take correction or instruction. They have made their faces harder than a rock, they have refused to repent and return to You.

4. फिर मैं ने सोचा, ये लोग तो कड़गाल और अबोध ही हैं; क्योंकि ये यहोवा का मार्ग और अपने परमेश्वर का नियम नहीं जानते।

4. Then I said, Surely these are only the poor; they are [sinfully] foolish and have no understanding, for they know not the way of the Lord, the judgment (the just and righteous law) of their God.

5. इसलिये मैं बड़े लोगों के पास जाकर उनको सुनाऊंगा; क्योंकि वे तो यहोवा का मार्ग और अपने परमेश्वर का नियम जानते हैं। परन्तु उन सभों ने मिलकर जूए को तोड़ दिया है और बन्धनों को खोल डाला है।

5. I will go to the great men and will speak to them, for they must know the way of the Lord, the judgment (the just and righteous law) of their God. But [I found the very reverse to be true] these had all alike broken the yoke [of God's law] and had burst the bonds [of obedience to Him].

6. इस कारण वन में से एक सिंह आकर उनहें मार डालेगा, निर्जल देश का एक भेड़िया उनको नाश करेगा। और एक चीता उनके नगरों के पास घात लगाए रहेगा, और जो कोई उन में से निकले वह फाडा जाएगा; क्योंकि उनके अपराध बहुत बढ़ गए हैं और वे मुझ से बहुत ही दूर हट गए हैं।

6. Therefore a lion out of the forest shall slay them, a wolf of the desert shall destroy them, a leopard or panther shall lie in wait against their cities. Everyone who goes out of them shall be torn in pieces, because their transgressions are many, their backslidings and total desertion of faith are increased and have become great and mighty.

7. मैं क्योंकर तेरा पाप क्षमा करूं? तेरे लड़कों ने मुझ को छोड़कर उनकी शपथ खाई है जो परमेश्वर नहीं है। जब मैं ने उनका पेट भर दिया, तब उन्हों ने व्यभिचार किया और वेश्याओं के घरों में भीड़ की भीड़ जाते थे।

7. Why should I and how can I pass over this and forgive you for it? Your children have forsaken Me and sworn by those that are no gods. When I had fed them to the full and bound them to Me by oath, they committed [spiritual] adultery, assembling themselves in troops at the houses of [idol] harlots.

8. वे खिलाए- पिलाए बे- लगाम घेड़ों के समान हो गए, वे अपने अपने पड़ोसी की स्त्री पर हिनहिनाने लगे।

8. They were like fed stallions roaming at large; each one neighed after his neighbor's wife.

9. क्या मैं ऐसे कामों का उन्हें दण्ड न दूं? यहोवा की यह वाणी है; क्या मैं ऐसी जाति से अपना पलटा न लूं?

9. Shall I not punish them for these things? says the Lord; and shall I not avenge Myself on such a nation as this?

10. शहरपनाह पर चढ़के उसका नाश तो करो, तौभी उसका अन्त मत कर डालो; उसकी जड़ रहने दो परन्तु उसकी डालियों को तोड़कर फेंक दो, क्योंकि वे यहोवा की नहीं हैं।

10. Go up within [Jerusalem's] walls and destroy [her vines], but do not make a full and complete end. Trim away the tendrils [of her vines], for they are not the Lord's.

11. यहोवा की यह वाणी है कि इस्राएल और यहूदा के घरानों ने मुझ से बड़ा विश्वासघात किया है।

11. For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have dealt very faithlessly and treacherously against Me, says the Lord.

12. उन्हों ने यहोवा की बातें झुठलाकर कहा, वह ऐसा नहीं है; विपत्ति हम पर न पड़ेगी, न हम तलवार को और न महंगी को देखेंगे।

12. They have lied about and denied the Lord by saying, It is not He [Who speaks through His prophets]! Evil shall not come upon us; nor shall we see war or famine.

13. भविष्यद्वक्ता हवा हो जाएंगे; उन में ईश्वर का वचन नहीं है। उनके साथ ऐसा ही किया जाएगा !

13. And [say they] the prophets will become wind [what they prophesy will not come to pass], and the word [of God] is not in them. Thus shall it be done to them [as they threatened would be done to us].

14. इस कारण सेनाओं का परमेश्वर यहोवा यों कहता है, ये लोग जो ऐसा कहते हैं, इसलिये देख, मैं अपना वचन तेरे मुंह में आग, और इस प्रजा को काठ बनाऊंगा, और वह उनको भस्म करेगी।

14. Therefore thus says the Lord God of hosts: Because you [the people] have spoken this word, behold, I will make My words fire in your mouth [Jeremiah] and this people wood, and it will devour them.

15. यहोवा की यह वाणी है, हे इस्राएल के घराने, देख, मैं तुम्हारे विरूद्ध दूर से ऐसी जाति को चढ़ा लाऊंगा जो सामथ और प्राचीन है, उसकी भाषा तुम न समझोगे, और न यह जानोगे कि वे लोग क्या कह रहे हैं।

15. Behold, I am bringing a nation upon you from afar, O house of Israel, says the Lord. It is a mighty and enduring nation, it is an ancient nation, a nation whose language you do not know, nor can you understand what they say.

16. उनका तर्कश खुली क़ब्र है और वे सब के सब शूरवीर हैं।

16. Their quiver is [filled with deadly missiles] like an open sepulcher [filled with dead bodies; the foes] are all mighty men (heroes).

17. तुम्हारे पक्के खेत और भोजनवस्तुएं जो तुम्हारे बेटे- बेटियों के खाने के लिये हैं उन्हें वे खा जाएंगे। वे तुम्हारी भ्ेाड़- बकरियों और गाय- बैलों को खा डालेंगे; वे तुम्हारी दाखों और अंजीरों को खा जाएंगे; और जिन गढ़वाले नगरों पर तुम भरोसा रखते हो उन्हें वे तलवार के बल से नाश कर देंगे।

17. They shall consume your harvest and your food; they shall consume your sons and your daughters; they shall consume your flocks and your herds; they shall consume your vines and your fig trees. They shall break down and impoverish your fortified cities in which you trust, with the sword [they shall destroy them].

18. तौभी, यहोवा की यह वाणी है, उन दिनों में भी मैं तुम्हारा अन्त न कर डालूंगा।

18. But even in those days, says the Lord, I will not make a full and complete end of you.

19. और जब तुम पूछोगे कि हमारे परमेश्वर यहोवा ने हम से ये सब काम किस लिये किए हैं, तब तुम उन से कहना, जिस प्रकार से तुम ने मुझ को त्यागकर अपने देश में दूसरे देवताओं की सेवा की है, उसी प्रकार से तुम को पराये देश में परदेशियों की सेवा करनी पड़ेगी।

19. And when your people say, Why has the Lord our God done all these things to us? then you shall answer them, As you have forsaken Me, says the Lord, and have served strange gods in your land, so shall you serve strangers (gods) in a land that is not yours.

20. याकूब के घराने में यह प्रचार करो, और यहूदा में यह सुनाओे

20. Declare this in the house of Jacob and publish it in Judah:

21. हे मूर्ख और निर्बुध्दि लोगो, तुम जो आंखें रहते हुए नहीं देखते, जो कान रहते हुए नहीं सुनते, यह सुनो।
मरकुस 8:18

21. Hear now this, O foolish people without understanding or heart, who have eyes and see not, who have ears and hear not: [Isa. 6:9, 10; Matt. 13:10-15; Mark 8:17, 18.]

22. यहोवा की यह वाणी है, क्या तुम लोग मेरा भय नहीं मानते? क्या तुम मेरे सम्मुख नहीं थरथराते? मैं ने बालू को समुद्र का सिवाना ठहराकर युग युग का ऐसा बान्ध ठहराया कि वह उसे लांध न सके; और चाहे उसकी लहरें भी उठें, तौभी वे प्रबल न हो सकें, या जब वे गरजें तौभी उसको न लांध सकें।

22. Do you not fear and reverence Me? says the Lord. Do you not tremble before Me? I placed the sand for the boundary of the sea, a perpetual barrier beyond which it cannot pass and by an everlasting ordinance beyond which it cannot go? And though the waves of the sea toss and shake themselves, yet they cannot prevail [against the feeble grains of sand which God has ordained by nature to be sufficient for His purpose]; though [the billows] roar, yet they cannot pass over that [barrier]. [Is not such a God to be reverently feared and worshiped?]

23. पर इस प्रजा का हठीला और बलवा करनेवाला मन है; इन्हों ने बलवा किया और दूर हो गए हैं।

23. But these people have hearts that draw back from God and wills that rebel against Him; they have revolted and quit His service and have gone away [into idolatry].

24. वे मन में इतना भी नहीं सोचते कि हमारा परमेश्वर यहोवा तो बरसात के आरम्भ और अन्त दोनों समयों का जल समय पर बरसाता है, और कटनी के नियत सप्ताहों को हमारे लिये रखता है, इसलिये हम उसका भय मानें।

24. Nor do they say in their hearts, Let us now reverently fear and worship the Lord our God, Who gives rain, both the autumn and the spring rain in its season, Who reserves and keeps for us the appointed weeks of the harvest.

25. परन्तु तुम्हारे अधर्म के कामों ही के कारण वे रूक गए, और तुम्हारे पापों ही के कारण तुम्हारी भलाई नहीं होती।

25. Your iniquities have turned these blessings away, and your sins have kept good [harvests] from you.

26. मेरी प्रजा में दुष्ट लोग पाए जाते हैं; जैसे चिड़ीमार ताक में रहते हैं, वैसे ही वे भी घात लगाए रहते हैं। वे फन्दा लगाकर मनुष्यों को अपने वश में कर लेते हैं।

26. For among My people are found wicked men; they watch like fowlers who lie in wait; they set a trap, they catch men.

27. जैसा पिंजड़ा चिड़ियों से भरा हो, वैसे ही उनके घर छल से भरे रहते हैं; इसी प्रकार वे बढ़ गए और धनी हो गए हैं।

27. As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit and treachery; therefore they have become great and grown rich,

28. वे मोटे और चिकने हो गए हैं। बुरे कामों में वे सीमा को लांध गए हैं; वे न्याय, विशेष करके अनाथों का न्याय नहीं चुकाते; इस से उनका काम सफल नहीं होता : वे कंगालों का हक़ भी नहीं दिलाते।

28. They have grown fat and sleek. Yes, they surpass in deeds of wickedness; they do not judge and plead with justice the cause of the fatherless, that they may prosper, and they do not defend the rights of the needy.

29. इसलिये, यहोवा की यह वाणी है, क्या मैं इन बातों का दण्ड न दूं? क्या मैं ऐसी जाति से पलटा न लूं?

29. Shall I not punish them for these things? says the Lord. Shall I not avenge Myself on such a nation as this?

30. देश में ऐसा काम होता है जिस से चकित और रोमांचित होना चाहिये।

30. An appalling and horrible thing [bringing desolation and destruction] has come to pass in the land:

31. भचिष्यद्वक्ता झूठमूठ भविष्यद्वाणी करते हैं; और याजक उनके सहारे से प्रभुता करते हैं; मेरी प्रजा को यह भाता भी है, परन्तु अन्त के समय तुम क्या करोगे?

31. The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests exercise rule at their own hands and by means of the prophets. And My people love to have it so! But what will you do when the end comes?
