1. यह वचन यहोवा की ओर से यिर्मयाह के पास उस समय पहुंचा जब सिदकिरयाह राजा ने उसके पास मल्किरयाह के पुत्रा पशहूर और मासेयाह याजक के पुत्रा सपन्याह के हाथ से यह कहला भेजा कि,

1. The word which came unto Jeremiah from Yahweh, when King Zedekiah sent unto him Pashhur, son of Malchiah, and Zephaniah, son of Maaseiah, the priest, saying:

2. हमारे लिये यहोवा से पूछ, क्योंकि बाबुल का राजा नबूकदनेस्सर हमारे विरूद्ध युठ्ठ कर रहा है; कदाचित यहोवा हम से अपने सब आश्चर्यकम के अनुसार ऐसा व्यवहार करे कि वह हमारे पास से उठ जाए।

2. Enquire for us I pray thee of Yahweh, in that Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, maketh war against us, Peradventure Yahweh will deal with us according to all his wonders, as that he go up from us.

3. तब यिर्मयाह ने उन से कहा, तुम सिदकिरयाह से यों कहो, इस्राएल का परमेश्वर यहोवा यों कहता है,

3. Then said Jeremiah unto them, Thus, shall ye say unto Zedekiah:

4. देखो, युठ्ठ के जो हथियार तुम्हारे हाथों में है, जिन से तुम बाबुल के राजा और शहरपनाह के बाहर घेरनेवाले कसदियों से लड़ रहे हो, उनको मैं लौटाकर इस नगर के बीच में इकट्ठा करूंगा;

4. Thus, saith Yahweh, God of Israel Behold me! turning back the weapons of war that are in your hand, wherewith, ye, are fighting the king of Babylon and the Chaldeans, who are besieging you outside the wall, and I will gather them into the midst of this city.

5. और मैं स्वयं हाथ बढ़ाकर और बलवन्त भुजा से, और क्रोध और जलजलाहट और बड़े क्रोध में आकर तुम्हारे विरूद्ध लडूंगा।

5. And I myself, will fight against you, with a hand outstretched, and with an arm of strength, and with anger and with wrath and with great indignation;

6. और मैं इस नगर के रहनेवालों को क्या मनुष्य, क्या पशु सब को मार डालूंगा; वे बड़ी मरी से मरेंगे।

6. and I will smite the inhabitants of this city, both man and beast, of a great pestilence, shall they die.

7. और उसके बाद, यहोवा की यह वाणी है, हे यहूदा के राजा सिदकिरयाह, मैं तुझे, तेरे कर्मचारियों और लोगों को वरन जो लोग इस नगर में मरी, तलवार और महंगी से बचे रहेंगे उनको बाबुल के राजा नबूकदनेस्सर और उनके प्राण के शत्रुओं के वश में कर दूंगा। वह उनको तलवार से मार डालेगा; उन पर न तो वह तरस खाएगा, न कुछ कोमलता दिखाएगा और न कुछ दया करेगा।

7. And after that, Declareth Yahweh Will I deliver Zedekiah king of Judah and his servants, and the people even such as are left in this city from the pestilence from the sword and from the famine, into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, even into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of them who are seeking their life, and he will smite them with the edge of the sword, he will not have pity on them nor will he spare nor will he have compassion.

8. और इस प्रजा के लोगों से कह कि यहोवा यों कहता है, देखो, मैं तुम्हारे साम्हने जीवन का मार्ग और मृत्यु का मार्ग भी बताता हूँ।

8. And unto this people, shalt thou say, Thus, saith Yahweh, Behold me! setting before you the way, of life, and the way of death:

9. जो कोई इस नगर में रहे वह तलवार, महंगी और मरी से मरेगा; परन्तु जो कोई निकलकर उन कसदियों के पास जो तुम को घेर रहे हैं भाग जाए वह जीवित रहेगा, और उसका प्राण बचेगा।

9. He that remaineth in this city, shall die by the sword ors by the famine or by the pestilence, Whereas, he that goeth forth and falleth unto the Chaldeans, who are besieging you, then shall he live, and, his life, shall become to him, a spoil;

10. क्योंकि यहोवा की यह वाणी है कि मैं ने इस नगर की ओर अपना मुख भलाई के लिये नहीं, वरन बुराई ही के लिये किया है; यह बाबुल के राजा के वश में पड़ जाएगा, और वह इसको फुंकवा देगा।

10. For I have set my face against this city, for calamity and not for blessing, Declareth Yahweh, Into the hand of the king of Babylon, shall it be given up, and he will burn it with fire.

11. ओर यहूदा के राजकुल के लोगों से कह, यहोवा का वचन सुनो,

11. Now, as to the house of the king of Judah, hear ye the word of Yahweh:

12. हे दाऊद के घराने ! यहोवा यों कहता है, भोर को न्याय चुकाओ, और लुटे हुए को अंधेर करनेवाले के हाथ से छुड़ाओ, नहीं तो तुम्हारे बुरे कामों के कारण मेरे क्रोध की आग भड़केगी, और ऐसी जलती रहेगी कि कोई उसे बुझा न सकेगा।

12. O house of David! Thus, saith Yahweh, Administer justice betimes, And deliver the robbed out of the hand of the oppressor, Lest mine indignation come forth like fire And burn and there be none to quench it, Because of the wickedness of your doings:

13. हे तराई में रहनेवाली और समथर देश की चट्टान; तुम जो कहते हो कि हम पर कौन चढ़ाई कर सकेगा, और हमारे वासस्थान में कौन पवेश कर सकेगा? यहोवा कहता है कि मैं तुम्हारे विरूद्ध हूँ।

13. Behold me! against thee, O thou dweller in the vale on the level rock, Declareth Yahweh, Ye who are saying, Who shall come down upon us? Who shall enter our habitations?

14. और यहोवा की वाणी है कि मैं तुम्हें दण्ड देकर तुम्हारे कामों का फल तुम्हें भुगताऊंगा। मैं उसके वन में आग लगाऊंगा, और उसके चारों ओर सब कुछ भस्म हो जाएगा।

14. Yet will I bring punishment upon you according to the fruit of your doings, Declareth Yahweh, and will kindle a fire in her forest, and it shall devour all things round about her.
