1. यहोवा का वह वचन मेरे पास पहुंचा,

1. The LORD spoke to me. He said:

2. और यरूशलेम में पुकारकर यह सुना दे, यहोवा यह कहता है, तेरी जवानी का स्नेह और तेरे विवाह के समय का प्रेम मुझे स्मरण आता है कि तू कैसे जंगल में मेरे पीछे पीछे चली जहां भूमि जोती- बोई न गई थी।

2. 'Go and declare in the hearing of the people of Jerusalem: 'This is what the LORD says: 'I have fond memories of you, how devoted you were to me in your early years. I remember how you loved me like a new bride; you followed me through the wilderness, through a land that had never been planted.

3. इस्राएल, यहोवा के लिये पवित्रा और उसकी पहली अपज थी। उसे खानेवाले सब दोषी ठहरेंगे और विपत्ति में पड़ेंगे, यहोवा की यही वाणी है।

3. Israel was set apart to the LORD; they were like the first fruits of a harvest to him. All who tried to devour them were punished; disaster came upon them,' says the LORD.''

4. हे याकूब के घराने, हे इस्राएल के घराने के कुलों के लोगो, यहोवा का वचन सुनो !

4. Now listen to what the Lord has to say, you descendants of Jacob, all you family groups from the nation of Israel.

5. यहोवा यों कहता है, तुम्हारे पुरखाओं ने मुझ में कौन ऐसी कुटिलता पाई कि मुझ से दूर हट गए और निकम्मी वस्तुओं के पीछे होकर स्वयं निकम्मेे हो गए?

5. This is what the Lord says: 'What fault could your ancestors have possibly found in me that they strayed so far from me? They paid allegiance to worthless idols, and so became worthless to me.

6. उन्हों ने इतना भी न कहा कि जो हमें मिस्र देश से निकाल ले आया वह यहोवा कहां है? जो हमें जंगल में से ओर रेत और गड़हों से भरे हुए निर्जल और घोर अन्धकार के देश से जिस में होकर कोई नहीं चलता, और जिस में कोई मनुष्य नहीं रहता, हमें निकाल ले आया।

6. They did not ask: 'Where is the LORD who delivered us out of Egypt, who brought us through the wilderness, through a land of desert sands and rift valleys, through a land of drought and deep darkness, through a land in which no one travels, and where no one lives?'

7. और मैं तुम को इस उपजाऊ देश में ले आया कि उसका फल और उत्तम उपज खाओ; परन्तु मेरे इस देश में आकर तुम ने इसे अशुठ्ठ किया, और मेरे इस निज भाग को घृणिात कर दिया है।

7. I brought you into a fertile land so you could enjoy its fruits and its rich bounty. But when you entered my land, you defiled it; you made the land I call my own loathsome to me.

8. याजकों ने भी नहीं पूछा कि यहोवा कहां है; जो व्यवस्था सिखाते थे वे भी मुझ को न जानते थे; चरवाहों ने भी मुझ से बलवा किया; भविष्यद्वक्ताओं ने बाल देवता के नाम से भविष्यद्वाणी की और निष्फल बातों के पीछे चले।

8. Your priests did not ask, 'Where is the LORD?' Those responsible for teaching my law did not really know me. Your rulers rebelled against me. Your prophets prophesied in the name of the god Baal. They all worshiped idols that could not help them.

9. इस कारण यहोवा यह कहता है, मैं फिर तुम से विवाद, और तुम्हारे बेटे और पोतों से भी प्रश्न करूंगा।

9. 'So, once more I will state my case against you,' says the LORD. 'I will also state it against your children and grandchildren.

10. कित्तियों के द्वीपों में पार जाकर देखो, या केदार में दूत भेजकर भली भांति विचार करो और देखो; देखो, कि ऐसा काम कहीं और भी हुआ है? क्या किसी जाति ने अपने देवताओं को बदल दिया जो परमेश्वर भी नहीं हैं?

10. Go west across the sea to the coasts of Cyprus and see. Send someone east to Kedar and have them look carefully. See if such a thing as this has ever happened:

11. परन्तु मेरी प्रजा ने अपनी महिमा को निकम्मी वस्तु से बदल दिया है।

11. Has a nation ever changed its gods (even though they are not really gods at all)? But my people have exchanged me, their glorious God, for a god that cannot help them at all!

12. हे आकाश, चकित हो, बहुत ही थरथरा और सुनसान हो जा, यहोवा की यह वाणी है।

12. Be amazed at this, O heavens! Be shocked and utterly dumbfounded,' says the LORD.

13. क्योंकि मेरी प्रजा ने दो बुराइयां की हैंे उन्हों ने मुझ बहते जल के सोते को त्याग दिया है, और, अन्हों ने हौद बना लिए, वरन बेसे हौद जो टूट गए हैं, और जिन में जल नहीं रह सकता।

13. 'Do so because my people have committed a double wrong: they have rejected me, the fountain of life-giving water, and they have dug cisterns for themselves, cracked cisterns which cannot even hold water.'

14. क्या इस्राएल दास है? क्या वह घर में जन्मा हुआ दांस है? फिर वह क्यों शिकार बना?

14. 'Israel is not a slave, is he? He was not born into slavery, was he? If not, why then is he being carried off?

15. जवान सिंहों ने उसके विरूद्ध गरजकर नाद किया। उन्हों ने उसके देश को उजाड़ दिया; उन्हों ने उसके नगरों को ऐसा उजाड़ दिया कि उन में कोई बसनेवाला ही न रहा।

15. Like lions his enemies roar victoriously over him; they raise their voices in triumph. They have laid his land waste; his cities have been burned down and deserted.

16. और नोप और तहपत्हेस के निवासी भी तेरे देश की उपज चट कर गए हैं।

16. Even the soldiers from Memphis and Tahpanhes have cracked your skulls, people of Israel.

17. क्या यह तेरी ही करनी का फल नहीं, जो तू ने अपने परमेश्वर यहोवा को छोड़ दिया जो तुझे मार्ग में लिए चला?

17. You have brought all this on yourself, Israel, by deserting the LORD your God when he was leading you along the right path.

18. और अब तुझे मिस्र के मार्ग से क्या लाभ है कि तू सीहोर का जल पीए? अथवा अश्शूर के मार्ग से भी तुझे क्या लाभ कि तू महानद का जल पीए?

18. What good will it do you then to go down to Egypt to seek help from the Egyptians? What good will it do you to go over to Assyria to seek help from the Assyrians?

19. तेरी बुराई ही तेरी ताड़ना करेगी, और तेरा भटक जाना तुझे उलाहना देगा। जान ले और देख कि अपने परमेश्वर यहोवा को त्यागना, यह बुरी और कड़वी बात है; तुझे मेरा भय ही नहीं रहा, प्रभु सेनाओं के यहोवा की यही वाणी है।

19. Your own wickedness will bring about your punishment. Your unfaithful acts will bring down discipline on you. Know, then, and realize how utterly harmful it was for you to reject me, the LORD your God, to show no respect for me,' says the Lord GOD who rules over all.

20. क्योंकि बहुत समय पहिले मैं ने तेरा जूआ तोड़ डाला और तेरे बन्धन खोल दिए; परन्तु तू ने कहा, मैं सेवा न करूंगी। और सब ऊंचे-ऊंचे टीलों पर और सब हरे पेड़ों के नीचे तू व्यभिचारिण का सा काम करती रही।

20. 'Indeed, long ago you threw off my authority and refused to be subject to me. You said, 'I will not serve you.' Instead, you gave yourself to other gods on every high hill and under every green tree, like a prostitute sprawls out before her lovers.

21. मैं ने तो तुझे उत्तम जाति की दाखलता और उत्तम बीज करके लगाया था, फिर तू क्यों मेरे लिये जंगली दाखलता बन गई?

21. I planted you in the land like a special vine of the very best stock. Why in the world have you turned into something like a wild vine that produces rotten, foul-smelling grapes?

22. चाहे तू अपने को सज्जी से धोए और बहुत सा साबुन भी प्रयोग करे, तौभी तेरे अधर्म का धब्बा मेरे साम्हने बना रहेगा, प्रभु यहोवा की यही वाणी है।

22. You can try to wash away your guilt with a strong detergent. You can use as much soap as you want. But the stain of your guilt is still there for me to see,' says the Lord GOD.

23. तू क्योंकर कह सकती है कि मैं अशुठ्ठ नहीं, मैं बाल देवताओं के पीछे नहीं चली? तराई में की अपनी चाल देख और जान ले कि तू ने क्या किया है? तू वेग से चलनेवाली और इधर उधर फिरनेवाली सांड़नी है,

23. 'How can you say, 'I have not made myself unclean. I have not paid allegiance to the gods called Baal.' Just look at the way you have behaved in the Valley of Hinnom! Think about the things you have done there! You are like a flighty, young female camel that rushes here and there, crisscrossing its path.

24. जंगल में पली हुई जंगली गदही जो कामातुर होकर वायु सूंधती फिरती है तब कौन उसे वश में कर सकता है? जितने उसको ढूंढ़ते हैं वे व्यर्थ परिश्रम न करें; क्योंकि वे उसे उसकीतिु में पाएंगे।

24. You are like a wild female donkey brought up in the wilderness. In her lust she sniffs the wind to get the scent of a male. No one can hold her back when she is in heat. None of the males need wear themselves out chasing after her. At mating time she is easy to find.

25. अपने पांव नंगे और गला सुखाए न रह। परन्तु तू ने कहा, नहीं, ऐसा नहीं हो सकता, क्योंकि मेरा प्रेम दूसरों से लग गया है और मैं उनके पीछे चलती रहूंगी।

25. Do not chase after other gods until your shoes wear out and your throats become dry. But you say, 'It is useless for you to try and stop me because I love those foreign gods and want to pursue them!'

26. जैसे चोर पकड़े जाने पर लज्जित होता है, वैसे ही इस्राएल का घराना राजाओं, हाकिमों, याजकों और भविष्यद्वक्ताओं समेत लज्जित होगा।

26. Just as a thief has to suffer dishonor when he is caught, so the people of Israel will suffer dishonor for what they have done. So will their kings and officials, their priests and their prophets.

27. वे काठ से कहते हैं, तू मेरा बाप है, और पत्थर से कहते हैं, तू ने मुझे जन्म दिया है। इस प्रकार उन्हों ने मेरी ओर मुंह नहीं पीठ ही फेरी है; परन्तु विपत्ति के समय वे कहते हैं, उठकर हमें बचा !

27. They say to a wooden idol, 'You are my father.' They say to a stone image, 'You gave birth to me.' Yes, they have turned away from me instead of turning to me. Yet when they are in trouble, they say, 'Come and save us!'

28. परन्तु जो देवता तू ने बना लिए हैं, वे कहां रहे? यदि वे तेरी विपत्ति के समय तुझे बचा सकते हैं तो अभी उठें; क्योंकि हे यहूदा, तेरे नगरों के बराबर तेरे देवता भी बहुत हैं।

28. But where are the gods you made for yourselves? Let them save you when you are in trouble. The sad fact is that you have as many gods as you have towns, Judah.

29. तुम क्यों मुझ से वादविवाद करते हो? तुम सभों ने मुझ से बलवा किया है, यहोवा की यही वाणी है।

29. 'Why do you try to refute me? All of you have rebelled against me,' says the LORD.

30. मैं ने व्यर्थ ही तुम्हारे बेटों की ताड़ना की, उन्हों ने कुछ भी नहीं माना; तुम ने अपने भविष्यद्वक्ताओं को अपनी ही तलवार से ऐसा काट डाला है जैसा सिंह फाड़ता है।

30. 'It did no good for me to punish your people. They did not respond to such correction. You slaughtered your prophets like a voracious lion.'

31. हे लोगो, यहोवा के वचन पर ध्यान दो ! क्या मैं इस्राएल के लिये जंगल वा घोर अन्धकार का देश बना? तब मेरी प्रजा क्यों कहती है कि हम तो आजाद हो गए हैं सो तेरे पास फिर न आएंगे?

31. You people of this generation, listen to what the LORD says. 'Have I been like a wilderness to you, Israel? Have I been like a dark and dangerous land to you? Why then do you say, 'We are free to wander. We will not come to you any more?'

32. क्या कुमारी अपने मिड़गार वा दुल्हिन अपनी सजावट भूल सकती है? तौभी मेरी प्रजा ने युगों से मुझे बिसरा दिया है।

32. Does a young woman forget to put on her jewels? Does a bride forget to put on her bridal attire? But my people have forgotten me for more days than can even be counted.

33. प्रेम लगाने के लिये तू कैसी सुन्दर चाल चलती है ! बुरी स्त्रियों को भी तू ने अपनी सी चाल सिखाई है।

33. 'My, how good you have become at chasing after your lovers! Why, you could even teach prostitutes a thing or two!

34. तेरे घांघरे में निदष और दरिद्र लोगों के लोहू का चिन्ह पाया जाता है; तू ने उन्हें सेंध लगाते नहीं पकड़ा। परन्तु इन सब के होते हुए भी तू कहती है, मैं निदष हूं;

34. Even your clothes are stained with the lifeblood of the poor who had not done anything wrong; you did not catch them breaking into your homes. Yet, in spite of all these things you have done,

35. निश्चय उसका क्रोध मुझ पर से हट जाएगा। देख, तू जो कहती है कि मैं ने पाप नहीं किया, इसलिये मैं तेरा न्याय कराऊंगा।

35. you say, 'I have not done anything wrong, so the LORD cannot really be angry with me any more.' But, watch out! I will bring down judgment on you because you say, 'I have not committed any sin.'

36. तू क्यों नया मार्ग पकड़ने के लिये इतनी डांवाडोल फिरती है? जैसे अश्शूरियों से तू लज्जित हुई वैसे ही मिस्रियों से भी होगी।

36. Why do you constantly go about changing your political allegiances? You will get no help from Egypt just as you got no help from Assyria.

37. वहां से भी तू सिर पर हाथ रखे हुए यों ही चली आएगी, क्योंकि जिन पर तू ने भरोसा रखा है उनको यहोवा ने निकम्मा ठहराया है, और उसके कारण तू सफल न होगी।

37. Moreover, you will come away from Egypt with your hands covering your faces in sorrow and shame because the LORD will not allow your reliance on them to be successful and you will not gain any help from them.
