1. कल के दिन के विषय में मत फूल, क्योंकि तू नहीं जानता कि दिन भर में क्या होगा।
याकूब 4:13-14

1. Boast not of tomorrow, for you do not know what the next day shall bring forth.

2. तेरी प्रशंसा और लोग करें तो करें, परन्तु तू आप न करना; दूसरा तूझे सराहे तो सराहे, परन्तु तू अपनी सराहना न करना।

2. Let your neighbor, and not your own mouth, praise you; a stranger, and not your own lips.

3. पत्थर तो भारी है और बालू में बोझ है, परन्तु मूढ का क्रोध उन दोनों से भी भारी है।

3. A stone is heavy and sand cumbersome, but a fool's wrath is heavier than both.

4. क्रोध तो क्रूर, और प्रकोप धारा के समान होता है, परन्तु जब कोई जल उठता है, तब कौन ठहर सकता है?

4. Wrath is merciless and anger sharp, but envy can bear nothing.

5. खुली हुई डांट गुप्त प्रेम से उत्तम है।

5. Open reproofs are better than secret love.

6. जो घाव मित्रा के हाथ से लगें वह विश्वासयोग्य है परन्तु बैरी अधिक चुम्बन करता है।

6. The wounds of a friend are more to be trusted than the spontaneous kisses of an enemy.

7. सन्तुष्ट होने पर मधु का छत्ता भी फीका लगता है, परन्तु भूखे को सब कड़वी वस्तुएं भी मीठी जान पड़ती हैं।

7. A full soul scorns honeycombs, but to a hungry soul even bitter things appear sweet.

8. स्थान छोड़कर घूमनेवाला मनुष्य उस चिड़िया के समान है, जो घोंसला छोड़कर उड़ती फिरती है।

8. As when a bird flies down from its own nest, so a man is brought into bondage whenever he estranges himself from his own place.

9. जैसे तेल और सुगन्ध से, वैसे ही मित्रा के हृदय की मनोहर सम्मति से मन आनन्दित होता है।

9. The heart delights in ointments and wines and perfumes, but the soul is broken by calamities.

10. जो तेरा और तेरे पिता का भी मित्रा हो उसे न छोड़ना; और अपनी विपत्ति के दिन अपने भाई के घर न जाना। प्रेम करनेवाला पड़ोसी, दूर रहनेवाले भाई से कहीं उत्तम है।

10. Do not forsake your own friend or your father's friend, nor go to your brother's house in the day of your calamity; better is a friend [that is] near than a brother living far off.

11. हे मेरे पुत्रा, बुद्धिमान होकर मेरा मन आनन्दित कर, तब मैं अपने निन्दा करनेवाले को उत्तर दे सकूंगा।

11. Son, be wise, that your heart may rejoice, and remove from yourself reproachful words.

12. बुद्धिमान मनुष्य विपत्ति को आती देखकर छिप जाता है; परन्तु भोले लोग आगे बढ़े चले जाते और हानि उठाते हैं।

12. A wise man, when evils are approaching, hides himself, but fools pass on, and will be punished.

13. जो पराए का उत्तरदायी हो उसका कपड़ा, और जो अनजान का उत्तरदायी हो उस से बन्धक की वस्तु ले ले।

13. Take away the man's garment, (for a scorner has passed by) whoever lays waste another's goods.

14. जो भोर को उठकर अपने पड़ोसी को ऊंचे शब्द से आशीर्वाद देता है, उसके लिये यह शाप गिना जाता है।

14. Whosoever shall bless a friend in the morning with a loud voice, shall seem to differ nothing from one who curses him.

15. झड़ी के दिन पानी का लगातार टपकना, और झगडालू पत्नी दोनों एक से हैं;

15. On a stormy day drops of rain drive a man out of his house, so also does a railing woman [drive a man] out of his own house.

16. जो उसको रोक रखे, वह वायु को भी रोक रखेगा और दहिने हाथ से वह तेल पकड़ेगा।

16. The north wind is sharp, but it is called by name propitious.

17. जैसे लोहा लोहे को चमका देता है, वैसे ही मनुष्य का मुख अपने मित्रा की संगति से चमकदार हो जाता है।

17. Iron sharpens iron, and a man sharpens his friend's countenance.

18. जो अंजीर के पेड़ की रक्षा करता है वह उसका फल खाता है, इसी रीति से जो अपने स्वामी की सेवा करता उसकी महिमा होती है।

18. He that plants a fig tree shall eat the fruits of it; so he that waits on his own master shall be honored.

19. जैसे जल में मुख की परछाई सुख से मिलती है, वैसे ही एक मनुष्य का मन दूसरे मनुष्य के मन से मिलता है।

19. As faces are not like [other] faces, so neither are the thoughts of men.

20. जैसे अधोलोक और विनाशलोक, वैसे ही मनुष्य की आंखें भी तृप्त नहीं होती।

20. Hell and destruction are not filled, neither are the eyes of men ever satisfied. [ 27:20A] He that fixes his eye is an abomination to the Lord, and the uninstructed do not restrain their tongue.

21. जैसे चान्दी के लिये कुठाई और सोने के लिये भट्ठी हैं, वैसे ही मनुष्य के लिये उसकी प्रशंसा है।

21. Fire is the trial for silver and gold, and a man is tried by the mouth of them that praise him. [ 27:21A] The heart of the transgressor seeks after mischief, but an upright heart seeks knowledge.

22. चाहे तू मूर्ख को अनाज के बीच ओखली में डालकर मूसल से कूटे, तौभी उसकी मूर्खता नहीं जाने की।

22. Though you scourge a fool, disgracing him in the midst of the council, you will [still] in no way remove his folly from him.

23. अपनी भेड़- बकरियों की दशा भली- भांति मन लगाकर जान ले, और अपने सब पशुओं के झुण्डों की देखभाल उचित रीति से कर;

23. Do you thoroughly know the number of your flock, and pay attention to your herds?

24. क्योंकि सम्पत्ति सदा नहीं ठहरती; और क्या राजमुकुट पीढ़ी- पीढ़ी चला जाता है?

24. For a man has not strength and power forever; neither does he transmit it from generation to generation.

25. कटी हुई घास उठ गई, नई घास दिखाई देती हैं, पहाड़ों की हरियाली काटकर इकट्ठी की गई है;

25. Take care of the herbage in the field, and you shall cut grass, and gather the mountain hay;

26. भेड़ों के बच्चे तेरे वस्त्रा के लिये हैं, और बकरों के द्वारा खेत का मूल्य दिया जाएगा;

26. that you may have sheep's [wool] for clothing; pay attention to the land, that you may have lambs.

27. और बकरियों का इतना दूध होगा कि तू अपने घराने समेत पेट भरके पिया करेगा, और तेरी लौण्उियों का भी जीवन निर्वाह होता रहेगा।।

27. My son, you have from me words very useful for your life, and for the life of your servants.
