1. जब लोगों ने देखा कि मूसा को पर्वत से उतरने में विलम्ब हो रहा है, तब वे हारून के पास इकट्ठे होकर कहने लगे, अब हमारे लिये देवता बना, जो हमारे आगे आगे चले; क्योंकि उस पुरूष मूसा को जो हमें मि देश से निकाल ले आया है, हम नहीं जानते कि उसे क्या हुआ?

1. And, when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him Up, make for us gods, who shall go before us, for, as for this Moses the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we know not what hath befallen him.

2. हारून ने उन से कहा, तुम्हारी स्त्रियों और बेटे बेटियों के कानों में सोने की जो बालियां है उन्हें तोड़कर उतारो, और मेरे पास ले आओ।

2. And Aaron said unto them, Break off the rings of gold, which are in the ears of your wives, of your sons and of your daughters, and bring them unto me.

3. तब सब लोगों ने उनके कानों से सोने की बालियों को तोड़कर उतारा, और हारून के पास ले आए।

3. And all the people of themselves brake off the rings of gold which were in their ears, and brought them unto Aaron.

4. और हारून ने उन्हें उनके हाथ से लिया, और एक बछड़ा ढालकर बनाया, और टांकी से गढ़ा; तब वे कहने लगे, कि हे इस्त्राएल तेरा परमेश्वर जो तुझे मि देश से छुड़ा लाया है वह यही है।

4. And he received the gold at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool, and made it a molten calf, and they said These, are thy gods, O Israel, who brought thee up, out of the land of Egypt.

5. यह देखके हारून ने उसके आगे एक वेदी बनवाई; और यह प्रचार किया, कि कल यहोवा के लिये पर्ब्ब होगा।

5. And when Aaron saw it, he built an altar before it. And Aaron made proclamation, and said, A festival to Yahweh, to-morrow!

6. और दूसरे दिन लोगों ने तड़के उठकर होमबलि चढ़ाए, और मेलबलि ले आए; फिर बैठकर खाया पिया, और उठकर खेलने लगे।।

6. So they rose up early, on the morrow, and offered ascending-sacrifices, and brought near peace-offerings, and the people sat down, to eat and to drink, and then rose up to make sport!

7. तब यहोवा ने मूसा से कहा, नीचे उतर जा, क्योंकि तेरी प्रजा के लोग, जिन्हें तू मि देश से निकाल ले आया है, सो बिगड़ गए हैं;

7. Then spake Yahweh unto Moses Go get thee down, for thy people whom thou hast brought up out of the land of Egypt have corrupted themselves.

8. और जिस मार्ग पर चलने की आज्ञा मैं ने उनको दी थी उसको झटपट छोड़कर उन्हों ने एक बछड़ा ढालकर बना लिया, फिर उसको दण्डवत् किया, और उसके लिये बलिदान भी चढ़ाया, और यह कहा है, कि हे इस्त्राएलियों तुम्हारा परमेश्वर जो तुम्हें मि देश से छुड़ा ले आया है वह यही है।

8. They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them, they have made for themselves a molten calf, and have bowed themselves down thereto mad have sacrificed thereto, and have said. These, are thy gods, O Israel, who have brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

9. फिर यहोवा ने मूसा से कहा, मैं ने इन लोगों को देखा, और सुन, वे हठीले हैं।
प्रेरितों के काम 7:51

9. So then Yahweh said unto Moses, I have looked on this people, and lo! a stiff-necked people, it is.

10. अब मुझे मत रोक, मेरा कोप उन पर भड़क उठा है जिस से मैं उन्हें भस्म करूं; परन्तु तुझ से एक बड़ी जाति उपजाऊंगा।

10. Now, therefore, let me alone, that mine anger may kindle upon them and that I may consume them, and may make of thee

11. तब मूसा अपने परमेश्वर यहोवा को यह कहके मनाने लगा, कि हे यहोवा, तेरा कोप अपनी प्रजा पर क्यों भड़का है, जिसे तू बड़े सामर्थ्य और बलवन्त हाथ के द्वारा मि देश से निकाल लाया है?

11. And Moses besought the face of Yahweh his God, and said Wherefore, O Yahweh, should thine anger kindle upon thy people, whom thou hast brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great might and with a firm hand?

12. मिद्दी लोग यह क्यों कहने पाए, कि वह उनको बुरे अभिप्राय से, अर्थात् पहाड़ों में घात करके धरती पर से मिटा डालने की मनसा से निकाल ले गया? तू अपने भड़के हुए कोप को शांत कर, और अपनी प्रजा को ऐसी हानि पहुचाने से फिर जा।

12. Wherefore should the Egyptians speak saying For mischief, hath he taken them forth to slay them among the mountains, and to make an end of them from off the face of the ground? Turn thou from the kindling of thine anger, and be grieved over the calamity to thy people,

13. अपने दास इब्राहीम, इसहाक, और याकूब को स्मरण कर, जिन से तू ने अपनी ही किरिया खाकर यह कहा था, कि मै तुम्हारे वंश को आकाश के तारों के तुल्य बहुत करूंगा, और यह सारा देश जिसकी मैं ने चर्चा की है तुम्हारे वंश को दूंगा, कि वह उसके अधिकारी सदैव बने रहें।

13. Have remembrance of Abraham, of Isaac and of Israel thy servants to whom thou didst swear by thyself, and didst speak unto them saying, I will multiply your seed, as the stars of the heavens, and, all this land of which I have spoken, will I give to your seed, and they shall inherit it to times age-abiding.

14. तब यहोवा अपनी प्रजा की हानि करने से जो उन ने कहा था पछताया।।

14. So then Yahweh was grieved, over the calamity which he had spoken of inflicting on his people.

15. तब मूसा फिरकर साक्षी की दानों तख्तियों को हाथ में लिये हुए पहाड़ से उतर गया, उन तख्तियों के तो इधर और उधर दोनों अलंगों पर कुछ लिखा हुआ था।

15. And Moses turned and went down out of the mount, with the two tables of testimony in his hand, tables written upon on both sides of them, on this and on that, were they written.

16. और वे तख्तियां परमेश्वर की बनाई हुई थीं, और उन पर जो खोदकर लिखा हुआ था वह परमेश्वर का लिखा हुआ था।।

16. Now as for, the tables, the work of God, they were, and, as for the writing, the writing of God, it was, graven upon the tables.

17. जब यहोशू को लोगों के कोलाहल का शब्द सुनाई पड़ा, तब उस ने मूसा से कहा, छावनी से लड़ाई का सा शब्द सुनाई देता है।

17. And Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, so he said unto Moses The noise of war, in the camp!

18. उस ने कहा, वह जो शब्द है वह न तो जीतनेवालों का है, और न हारनेवालों का, मुझे तो गाने का शब्द सुन पड़ता है।

18. But he said Not the noise of the cry of heroism, nor yet the noise of the cry of defeat, the noise of alternate song, do I hear.

19. छावनी के पास आते ही मूसा को वह बछड़ा और नाचना देख पड़ा, तब मूसा का कोप भड़क उठा, और उस ने तख्तियों को अपने हाथों से पर्वत के नीचे पटककर तोड़ डाला।

19. And it came to pass when he drew near unto the camp, and saw the calf, and the dancings, that the anger of Moses kindled, and he cast out of his hands the tables, and brake them in pieces at the foot of the mountain.

20. तब उस ने उनके बनाए हुए बछड़े को लेकर आग में डालके फूंक दिया। और पीसकर चूर चूर कर डाला, और जल के ऊपर फेंक दिया, और इस्त्राएलियों को उसे पिलवा दिया।

20. Then took he the calf which they had made and burned it in the fire, and ground it till it became powder, and strewed it on the face of the waters, and made the sons of Israel drink.

21. तब मूसा हारून से कहने लगा, उन लोगों ने तुझ से क्या किया कि तू ने उनको इतने बड़े पाप में फंसाया?

21. And Moses said unto Aaron, What had this people done to thee, that thou shouldst have brought upon them a great sin?

22. हारून ने उत्तर दिया, मेरे प्रभु का कोप न भड़के; तू तो उन लोगों को जानता ही है कि वे बुराई में मन लगाए रहते हैं।

22. And Aaron said, Let not the anger of my lord kindle, thou thyself, knowest the people, that ready for mischief, they are.

23. और उन्हों ने मुझ से कहा, कि हमारे लिये देवता बनवा जो हमारे आगे आगे चले; क्योंकि उस पुरूष मूसा को, जो हमें मि देश से छुड़ा लाया है, हम नहीं जानते कि उसे क्या हुआ?

23. So they said to me Make for us gods, who shall go before us, for, as for this, Moses the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we know not what hath befallen him.

24. तब मैं ने उन से कहा, जिस जिसके पास सोने के गहनें हों, वे उनको तोड़कर उतार लाएं; और जब उन्हों ने मुझ को दिया, मैं ने उन्हें आग में डाल दिया, तब यह बछड़ा निकल पड़ा

24. And I said to them Whosoever hath gold let them break it off, So they gave it to me, and I cast it into the fire, and there came out this calf.

25. हारून ने उन लोगों को ऐसा निरंकुश कर दिया था कि वे अपने विरोधियों के बीच उपहास के योग्य हुए,

25. And Moses saw the people, that unbridled, they were, for Aaron had given them the rein, for a whispering, among their enemies.

26. उनको निरंकुश देखकर मूसा ने छावनी के निकास पर खड़े होकर कहा, जो कोई यहोवा की ओर का हो वह मेरे पास आए; तब सारे लेवीय उस के पास इकट्ठे हुए।

26. So Moses took his stand in the gate of the camp, and said Who is for Yahweh? To me! Then gathered unto him all the sons of Levi,

27. उस ने उन से कहा, इस्त्राएल का परमेश्वर यहोवा यों कहता है, कि अपनी अपनी जांघ पर तलवार लटका कर छावनी से एक निकास से दूसरे निकास तक घूम घूमकर अपने अपने भाइयों, संगियों, और पड़ोसियों को घात करो।

27. And he said to them Thus, saith Yahweh, God of Israel, Put ye every man his sword upon his thigh, pass through and return from gate to gate in the camp, and slay ye every man his brother and every man his friend and every man his neighbour.

28. मूसा के इस वचन के अनुसार लेवियों ने किया और उस दिन तीन हजार के अटकल लोग मारे गए।

28. So the sons of Levi did, according to the word of Moses, and there fell from among the people on that day, about three thousand men.

29. फिर मूसा ने कहा, आज के दिन यहोवा के लिये अपना याजकपद का संस्कार करो, वरन अपने अपने बेटों और भाइयों के भी विरूद्ध होकर ऐसा करो जिस से वह आज तुम को आशीष दे।

29. And Moses said Install yourselves to-day, unto Yahweh, yea every man for his son and for his brother, so will he bestow upon you to-day, a blessing.

30. दूसरे दिन मूसा ने लोगों से कहा, तुम ने बड़ा ही पाप किया है। अब मैं यहोवा के पास चढ़ जाऊंगा; सम्भव है कि मैं तुम्हारे पाप का प्रायश्चित्त कर सकूं।

30. And it came to pass, on the morrow, that Moses said unto the people, Ye, have sinned a great sin, Now, therefore, I must go up unto Yahweh, Peradventure, I may make a propitiatory-covering for your sin.

31. तब मूसा यहोवा के पास जाकर कहने लगा, कि हाय, हाय, उन लोगों ने सोने का देवता बनवाकर बड़ा ही पाप किया है।

31. So Moses returned unto Yahweh, and said, Oh now, this people hath sinned a great sin, and they have made for themselves gods of gold.

32. तौभी अब तू उनका पाप क्षमा कर नहीं तो अपनी लिखी हुई पुस्तक में से मेरे नाम को काट दे।
लूका 10:20, रोमियों 9:3

32. Now, therefore, if thou wilt forgive their sin, but if not, blot me I pray thee out of thy book, which thou hast written,

33. यहोवा ने मूसा से कहा, जिस ने मेरे विरूद्ध पाप किया है उसी का नाम मैं अपनी पुस्तक में से काट दूंगा।

33. And Yahweh said unto Moses, Him who hath sinned against me, must I blot out of my book.

34. अब तो तू जाकर उन लोगों को उस स्थान में ले चल जिसकी चर्चा मैं ने तुझ से की थी; देख मेरा दूत तेरे आगे आगे चलेगा। परन्तु जिस दिन मैं दण्ड देने लगूंगा उस दिन उनको इस पाप का भी दण्ड दूंगा।

34. Now, therefore, go lead the people to the place of which I spake to thee, lo! a my messenger, shall go before thee, But, in the day when I do visit, then wilt I visit upon them their sin.

35. और यहोवा ने उन लोगों पर विपत्ति डाली, क्योंकि हारून के बनाए हुए बछड़े को उन्हीं ने बनवाया था।

35. And Yahweh plagued the people, for what they had done with the calf, which Aaron made.
