1. तब शूही बिलदद ने कहा,

1. Then Bildad the Shuhite answered, and said,

2. तू कब तक ऐसी ऐसी बातें करता रहेगा? और तेरे मुंह की बातें कब तक प्रचणड वायु सी रहेगी?

2. How long will you speak these things, [how long shall] the breath of your mouth be abundant in words?

3. क्या ईश्वर अन्याय करता है? और क्या सर्वशक्तिमान धर्म को उलटा करता है?

3. Will the Lord be unjust when He judges; or will He that has made all things pervert justice?

4. यदि तेरे लड़केबालों ने उसके विरूद्ध पाप किया है, तो उस ने उनको उनके अपराध का फल भुगताया है।

4. If your sons have sinned before Him, He has cast them away because of their transgression.

5. तौभी यदि तू आप ईश्वर को यत्न से ढूंढ़ता, और सर्वशक्तिमान से गिड़गिड़ाकर बिनती करता,

5. But you be early in prayer to the Lord Almighty.

6. और यदि तू निर्मल और धम रहता, तो निश्चय वह तेरे लिये जागता; और तेरी धर्मिकता का निवास फिर ज्यों का त्यों कर देता।

6. If you are pure and true, He will listen to your supplication, and will restore to you the habitation of righteousness.

7. चाहे तेरा भाग पहिले छोटा ही रहा हो परन्तु अन्त में तेरी बहुत बढती होती।

7. Though then your beginning should be small, yet your end should be unspeakably great.

8. अगली पीढ़ी के लोगों से तो पूछ, और जो कुछ उनके पुरखाओं ने जांच पड़ताल की है उस पर ध्यान दे।

8. For ask of the former generation, and search diligently among the race of our fathers:

9. क्योंकि हम तो कल ही के हैं, और कुछ नहीं जानते; और पृथ्वी पर हमारे दिन छाया की नाई बीतते जाते हैं।

9. (for we are of yesterday, and know nothing; for our life upon the earth is a shadow:)

10. क्या वे लोग तुझ से शिक्षा की बातें न कहेंगे? क्या वे अपने मन से बात न निकालेंगे?

10. shall not these teach you, and report [to you], and bring out words from [their] heart?

11. क्या कछार की घास पानी बिना बढ़ सकती है? क्या सरकणडा कीच बिना बढ़ता है?

11. Does the rush flourish without water, or shall the flag grow up without moisture?

12. चाहे वह हरी हो, और काटी भी न गई हो, तौभी वह और सब भांति की घास से पहिले ही सूख जाती है।

12. When it is yet on the root, and [though] it has not been cut down, does not any herb wither before it has received moisture?

13. ईश्वर के सब बिसरानेवालों की गति ऐसी ही होती है और भक्तिहीन की आशा टूट जाती है।

13. Thus then shall be the end of all that forget the Lord: for the hope of the ungodly shall perish.

14. उसकी आश का मूल कट जाता है; और जिसका वह भरोसा करता है, वह मकड़ी का जाला ठहराता है।

14. For his house shall be without inhabitants, and his tent shall prove a spider's web.

15. चाहे वह अपने घर पर टेक लगाए परन्तु वह न ठहरेगा; वह उसे दृढ़ता से थांभेगा परन्तु वह स्थ्रि न रहेगा।

15. If he should prop up his house, it shall not stand: and when he has taken hold of it, it shall not remain.

16. वह चूप पाकर हरा भरा हो जाता है, और उसकी डालियां बगीचे में चारों ओर फैलती हैं।

16. For it is moist under the sun, and his branch shall come forth out of his dung heap.

17. उसकी जड़ कंकरों के ढेर में लिपटी हुई रहती है, और वह पत्त्र के स्थान को देख लेता है।

17. He lies down upon a gathering of stones, and shall live in the mist of flints.

18. परन्तु जब वह अपने स्थान पर से नाश किया जाए, तब वह स्थान उस से यह कहकर मुंह मोड़ लेगा कि मैं ने उसे कभी देखा ही नहीं।

18. If [God] should destroy him, his place shall deny him. Have you not seen such things,

19. देख, उसकी आनन्द भरी चाल यही है; फिर उसी मिट्टी में से दूसरे उगेंगे।

19. that such is the overthrow of the ungodly? And out of the earth another shall grow.

20. देख, ईश्वर न तो खरे मनुष्य को निकम्मा जानकर छोड़ देता है, और न बुराई करतेवालों को संभालता है।

20. For the Lord will by no means reject the harmless man; but He will not receive any gift of the ungodly.

21. वह तो तुझे हंसमुख करेगा; और तुझ से जयजयकार कराएगा।

21. But He will fill with laughter the mouth of the sincere, and their lips with thanksgiving.

22. तेरे वैरी लज्जा का वस्त्रा पहिनेंगे, और दुष्टों का डेरा कहीं रहने न पाएगा।

22. But their adversaries shall clothe themselves with shame; and the habitation of the ungodly shall perish.
