1. और शैतान ने इस्राएल के विरूद्ध उठकर, दाऊद को उसकाया कि इस्राएलियों की गिनती ले।

1. Then the accuser stood up, against Israel, and moved David, to number Israel.

2. तब दाऊद ने योआब और प्रजा के हाकिमों से कहा, तुम जाकर बर्शेबा से ले दान तक के इस्राएल की गिनती लेकर मुझे बताओ, कि मैं जान लूं कि वे कितने हैं।

2. And David said unto Joab and unto the rulers of the people, Go, number Israel, from Beer-sheba even unto Dan, and bring the report unto me, that I may know the number of them.

3. योआब ने कहा, यहोवा की प्रजा के कितने ही क्यों न हों, वह उनको सौ गुना बढ़ा दे; परन्तु हे मेरे प्रभु ! हे राजा ! क्या वे सब राजा के अधीन नहीं हैं? मेरा प्रभु ऐसी बात क्यों चाहता है? वह इस्राएल पर दोष लगने का कारण क्यों बने?

3. Then said Joab, May Yahweh add unto his people, as many as they are, a hundred times, but are they not, my lord O king, all of them my lord's, as servants? wherefore should my lord seek this? wherefore should it become guilt to Israel?

4. तौभी राजा की आज्ञा योआब पर प्रबल हुई। तब योआब विदा होकर सारे इस्राएल में धूमकर यरूशलेम को लौट आया।

4. But, the word of the king, prevailed against Joab, and Joab departed, and went to and fro throughout all Israel, and came to Jerusalem.

5. तब योआब ने प्रजा की गिनती का जोड़, दाऊद को सुनाया और सब तलवारिये पुरूष इस्राएल के तो ग्यारह लाख, और यहूदा के चार लाख सत्तर हजार ठहरे।

5. And Joab delivered the sum of the number of the people, unto David, and all Israel was found to be a thousand thousand and a hundred thousand men, who drew sword, and Judah, four hundred and seventy thousand men, who drew sword.

6. परन्तु उन में योआब ने लेवी और बिन्यामीन को न गिना, क्योंकि वह राजा की आज्ञा से घुणा करता था

6. But, Levi and Benjamin, counted he not among them, for detestable was the word of the king unto Joab.

7. और यह बात परमेश्वर को बुरी लगी, इसलिये उस ने इस्राएल को मारा।

7. And it was displeasing in the eyes of God, concerning this thing, therefore smote he Israel.

8. और दाऊद ने परमेश्वर से कहा, यह काम जो मैं ने किया, वह महापाप है। परन्तु अब अपने दास का अधर्म दूर कर; मुझ से तो बड़ी मूर्खता हुई है।

8. And David said unto God, I have sinned greatly, in that I have done this thing, but, now, I beseech thee, take away the iniquity of thy servant, for I have shown myself very foolish.

9. तब यहोवा ने दाऊद के दश गाद से कहा,

9. Then spake Yahweh unto Gad, the seer of David saying:

10. जाकर दाऊद से कह, कि यहोवा यों कहता है, कि मैं तुझ को तीन विपत्तियां दिखाता हूँ, उन में से एक को चुन ले, कि मैं उसे तुझ पर डालूं।

10. Go and thou shalt speak unto David, saying, Thus, saith Yahweh, Three things, do I offer thee, choose thee one from among them, that I may do it unto thee.

11. तब गाद ने दाऊद के पास जाकर उस से कहा, यहोवा यों कहता है, कि जिसको तू चाहे उसे चुन ले :

11. So Gad came unto David, and said to him, Thus, saith Yahweh,

12. या तो तीन वर्ष का काल पड़े; वा तीन महीने तक तेरे विरोधी तुझे नाश करते रहें, और तेरे शत्रुऔं की तलवार तुझ पर चलती रहे; वा तीन दिन तक यहोवा की तलवार चले, अर्थात् मरी देश में फैले और यहोवा का दूत इस्राएली देश में चारों ओर विनाश करता रहे। अब सोच, कि मैं अपने भेजनेवाले को क्या उत्तर दूं।

12. Choose thee: Whether, for three years, there be famine, Or, for three months, that thou flee before thine adversaries, while the sword of thine enemies overtaketh thee, Or, for three days, the sword of Yahweh, and pestilence be in the land, with, the messenger of Yahweh, laying waste throughout all the boundary of Israel, Now, therefore, see, what, answer, I shall return unto him that sent me.

13. दाऊद ने गाद से कहा, मैं बड़े संकट में पड़ा हूँ; मैं यहोवा के हाथ में पड़ूं, क्योंकि उसकी दया बहुत बड़ी है; परन्तु मनुष्य के हाथ में मुझे पड़ना न पड़े।

13. And David said unto Gad, I am in a great strait, Oh let me fall, I pray thee, into the hand of Yahweh, for abounding are his compassions, exceedingly, but, into the hand of man, let me not fall.

14. तब यहोवा ने इस्राएल में मरी फैलाई, और इस्राएल में सत्तर हजार पुरूष मर मिटे।

14. So Yahweh laid pestilence, upon Israel, and there fell, of Israel, seventy thousand men.

15. फिर परमेश्वर ने एक दूत यरूशलेम को भी उसे नाश करने को भेजा; और वह नाश करने ही पर था, कि यहोवा दु:ख देने से खेदित हुआ, और नाश करनेवाले दूत से कहा, बस कर; अब अपना हाथ खींच ले। और यहोवा का दूत यबूसी ओर्नान के खलिहान के पास खड़ा था।

15. And God sent a messenger to Jerusalem, to lay it waste, but, as he was laying it waste, Yahweh looked, and relented concerning the calamity, and said unto the messenger who was laying waste, Enough! now, stay thy hand. And, the messenger of Yahweh, was standing by the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite.

16. और दाऊद ने आंखें उठाकर देखा, कि यहोवा का दूत हाथ में खींची हुई और यरूशलेम के ऊपर बढ़ाई हुई एक तलवार लिये हुए आकाश के बीच खड़ा है, तब दाऊद और पुरनिये टाट पहिने हुए मुंह के बल गिरे।

16. And, when David lifted up his eyes, and saw the messenger of Yahweh, standing, between the earth and the heavens, and his sword drawn, in his hand, stretched out over Jerusalem, then fell David and the elders, clothed in sackcloth, upon their faces.

17. तब दाऊद ने परमेश्वर से कहा, जिस ने प्रजा की गिनती लेने की आज्ञा दी थी, वह क्या मैं नहीं हूँ? हां, जिस ने पाप किया और बहुत बुराई की है, वह तो मैं ही हूँ। परन्तु इन भेड़- बकरियों ने क्या किया है? इसलिये हे मेरे परमेश्वर यहोवा ! तेरा हाथ मेरे पिता के घराने के विरूद्ध हो, परन्तु तेरी प्रजा के विरूद्ध न हो, कि वे मारे जाएं।

17. And David said unto God, Was it not, I, who gave word to number the people? Yea, I, it was who sinned and did the great wrong, what then had, these sheep, done? O Yahweh, my God, let thy hand, I beseech thee, be against me, and against the house of my father, but not against, thy people, that they should be plagued!

18. तब यहोवा के दूत ने गाद को दाऊद से यह कहने की आज्ञा दी, कि दाऊद चढ़कर यबूसी ओर्नान के खलिहान में यहोवा की एक वेदी बनाए।

18. And, the messenger of Yahweh, commanded Gad, to say unto David, that David should go up, to rear an altar unto Yahweh, in the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite.

19. गाद के इस वचन के अनुसार जो उस ने यहोवा के नाम से कहा था, दाऊद चढ़ गया।

19. So David went up, according to the word of Gad, which he spake in the name of Yahweh.

20. तब ओर्नान ने पीछे फिर के दूत को देखा, और उसके चारों बेटे जो उसके संग थे छिप गए, ओर्नान तो गेहूं दांवता था।

20. And Ornan turned, and saw the messenger, but, his four sons with him, were hiding themselves, now, Ornan, had been threshing wheat.

21. जब दाऊद ओर्नान के पास आया, तब ओर्नान ने दृष्टि करके दाऊद को देखा और खलिहान से बाहर जाकर भूमि तक झुककर दाऊद को दणडवत किया।

21. Then came David unto Ornan, and Ornan looked, and saw David, and went forth out of the threshing-floor, and bowed himself unto David, with his face to the ground.

22. तब दाऊद ने ओर्नान से कहा, उस खलिहान का स्थान मुझे दे दे, कि मैं उस पर यहोवा को एक वेदी बनाऊं, उसका पूरा दाम लेकर उसे पुझ को दे, कि यह विपित्त प्रजा पर से दूर की जाए।

22. And David said unto Ornan, Grant me the place of the threshing-floor, that I may build thereon an altar, unto Yahweh, for silver in full, shalt thou grant it me, that the plague may be stayed from off the people.

23. ओर्नान ने दाऊद से कहा, इसे ले ले, और मेरे प्रभु राजा को जो कुछ भाए वह वही करे; सुन, मैं तुझे होमबलि के लिये बैल और ईधन के लिये दांबने के हथियार और अन्नबलि के लिये गेहूं, यह सब मैं देता हूँ।

23. And Ornan said unto David, Take it to thee, and let my lord the king do what is good in his own eyes, see! I have given the oxen for ascending-sacrifices, and, the threshing implements for wood, and the wheat for a meal-offering, the whole, have I given.

24. राजा दाऊद ने ओर्नान से कहा, सो नहीं, मैं अवश्य इसका पूरा दाम ही देकर इसे मोल लूंगा; जो तेरा है, उसे मैं यहोवा के लिये नहीं लूंगा, और न सेंतमेंत का होमबलि चढ़ाऊंगा।

24. Then said King David to Ornan, Nay! but I will, surely buy, it for silver in full, for I will not take that which is thine for Yahweh, nor offer an ascending-sacrifice that hath cost me nothing.

25. तब दाऊद ने उस स्थान के लिये ओर्नान को छे सौ शेकेल सोना तौलकर दिया।

25. So David gave to Ornan, for the place, shekels of gold, by weight, six hundred.

26. तब दाऊद ने वहां यहोवा की एक वेदी बनाई और होमबलि और मेलबलि चढ़ाकर यहोवा से प्रार्थना की, और उस ने होपबलि की वेदी पर स्वर्ग से आग गिराकर उसकी सुन ली।

26. And David built there an altar unto Yahweh, and caused to go up ascending-sacrifices, and peace-offerings, and called unto Yahweh, and he responded to him, by fire, out of the heavens, upon the altar of ascending-sacrifice.

27. तब यहोवा ने दूत को आज्ञा दी; और उस ने अपनी तलवार फिर म्यान में कर ली।

27. And Yahweh gave word to tile messenger, and he put back his sword into its sheath.

28. यह देखकर कि यहोवा ने यबूसी ओर्नान के खलिहान में मेरी सुन ली है, दाऊद ने उसी समय वहां बलिदान किया।

28. At that time, when David saw that Yahweh had answered him in the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite, then he sacrificed there.

29. यहोवा का निवास जो मूसा ने जंगल में बनाया था, और होमबलि की वेदी, ये दोनों उस समय गिबोन के ऊंचे स्थान पर थे।

29. But, the habitation of Yahweh, which Moses made in the desert, and the altar of ascending-sacrifice, were, at that time, in the high place at Gibeon;

30. परन्तु दाऊद परमेश्वर के पास उसके साम्हने न जा सका, क्योंकि वह यहोवा के दूत की तलवार से डर गया था।

30. and David could not go before it, to seek God, for he had been terrified, because of the sword of the messenger of Yahweh.
