1. फिर राजा सुलैमान मिस्र के राजा फ़िरौन की बेटी को ब्याह कर उसका दामाद बन गया, और उसको दाऊदपुर में लाकर जब नक अपना भवन और यहोवा का भवन और यरूशलेम के चारों ओर की शहरपनाह न बनवा चुका, तब तक उसको वहीं रखा।

1. And Solomon became a relative of Pharaoh, king of Egypt, for he took Pharaoh's daughter [to wife] and brought her into the city of David until he had finished building his own house, and the house of the LORD and the wall of Jerusalem round about.

2. क्योंकि प्रजा के लोग तो ऊंचे स्थानों पर बलि चढ़ाते थे और उन दिनों तक यहोवा के नाम का कोई भपन नहीं बना था।

2. Until then the people sacrificed in high places because there was [still] no house built unto the name of the LORD until those days.

3. सुलैमान यहोवा से प्रेम रखता था और अपने पिता दाऊद की विधियों पर चलता तो रहा, परन्तु वह ऊंचे स्थानों पर भी बलि चढ़ाया और धूप जलाया करता था।

3. And Solomon loved the LORD, walking in the statutes of David, his father; only he sacrificed and burnt incense in high places.

4. और राजा गिबोन को बलि चढ़ाने गया, क्योंकि मुख्य ऊंचा स्थान वही था, तब वहां की वेदी पर सुलैमान ने एक हज़ार होमबलि चढ़ाए।

4. And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there, for that [was] the great high place; a thousand burnt offerings did Solomon offer upon that altar.

5. गिबोन में यहोवा ने रात को स्वप्न के द्वारा सुलैमान को दर्शन देकर कहा, जो कुछ तू चाहे कि मैं तुझे दूं, वह मांग।

5. In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night, and God said, Ask what [you wish that] I shall give thee.

6. सुलैमान ने कहा, तू अपने दास मेरे पिता दाऊद पर बड़ी करूणा करता रहा, क्योंकि वह अपने को तेरे सम्मुख जानकर तेरे साथ सच्चाई और धर्म और मनकी सीधाई से चलता रहा; और तू ने यहां तक उस पर करूणा की थी कि उसे उसकी गद्दी पर बिराजनेवाला एक पुत्रा दिया है, जैसा कि आज वर्तमान है।

6. And Solomon said, Thou hast shown unto thy servant David, my father, great mercy, according to the way he walked before thee in truth and in righteousness and in uprightness of heart with thee; and thou hast kept for him this great mercy that thou hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as [it is] this day.

7. और अब हे मेरे परमेश्वर यहोवा ! तूने अपने दास को मेरे पिता दाऊद के स्थान पर राजा किया है, परन्तु मैं छोटा लड़का सा हूँ जो भीतर बाहर आना जाना नहीं जानता।

7. And now, O LORD my God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father; and I am but a tender young man; I do not know [how] to go out or come in.

8. फिर तेरा दास तेरी चुनी हुई प्रजा के बहुत से लोगों के मध्य में है, जिनकी गिनती बहुतायत के मारे नहीं हो सकती।

8. And thy servant [is] in the midst of thy people whom thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude.

9. तू अपने दास को अपनी प्रजा का न्याय करने के लिये समझने की ऐसी शक्ति दे, कि मैं भले बुरे को परख सकूं; क्योंकि कौन ऐसा है कि तेरी इतनी बड़ी प्रजा का न्याय कर सके?

9. Give, therefore, thy servant a hearing heart to judge thy people that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to govern this thy so great a people?

10. इस बात से प्रभु प्रसन्न हुआ, कि सुलैमान ने ऐसा वरदान मांगा है।

10. And the speech pleased the Lord that Solomon had asked this thing.

11. तब परमेश्वर ने उस से कहा, इसलिये कि तू ने यह वरदान मांगा है, और न तो दीर्धयु और न धन और न अपने शत्रुओं का नाश मांगा है, परन्तु सपझने के विवेक का वरदान मांगा है इसलिये सुन,

11. And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing and hast not asked for thyself long life neither hast asked riches for thyself nor hast asked the life of thine enemies, but hast asked for thyself understanding to hear judgment,

12. मैं तेरे वचन के अनुसार करता हूँ, तुझे बुध्दि और विवेक से भरा मन देता हूँ, यहा तक कि तेरे समान न तो तुझ से पहिले कोई कभी हुआ, और न बाद में कोई कभी होगा।

12. behold, I have done according to thy words: behold, I have given thee a wise and understanding heart so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee.

13. फिर जो तू ने नहीं मांगा, अर्थात् धन और महिमा, वह भी मैं तुझे यहां तक देता हूँ, कि तेरे जीवन भर कोई राजा तेरे तुल्य न होगा।

13. And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches and glory so that there shall not be any among the kings like unto thee in all thy days.

14. फिर यदि तू अपने पिता दाऊद की नाई मेरे माग में चलता हुआ, मेरी विधियों और आज्ञाओं को मानता रहेगा तो मैं तेरी आयु को बढ़ाऊंगा।

14. And if thou wilt walk in my ways, keeping my statutes and my commandments as thy father David walked, then I will lengthen thy days.

15. तब सुलैमान जाग उठा; और देखा कि यह स्वप्न था; फिर वह यरूशलेम को गया, और यहोवा की वाचा के सन्दूक के साम्हने खड़ा होकर, होमबलि और मेलबलि चढ़ाए, और अपने सब कर्मचारियों के लिये जेवनार की।

15. And when Solomon awoke, he beheld [it was] a dream. And he came to Jerusalem and stood before the ark of the covenant of the LORD and offered up burnt offerings, and offered peace [offerings] and made a banquet for all his servants.

16. उस समय दो वेश्याएं राजा के पास आकर उसके सम्मुख खड़ी हुई।

16. In that season two women, [that were] harlots, came unto the king and stood before him.

17. उन में से एक स्त्री कहने लगी, हे मेरे प्रभु ! मैं और यह स्त्री दोनों एक ही घर में रहती हैं; और इसके संग घर में रहते हुए मेरे एक बच्चा हुआ।

17. And the one woman said, O my lord, I and this woman dwell in one house, and I was delivered of a child with her in the house.

18. फिर मेरे ज़च्चा के तीन दिन के बाद ऐसा हुआ कि यह स्त्री भी जच्चा हो गई; हम तो संग ही संग थीं, हम दोनों को छोड़कर घर में और कोई भी न था।

18. And it came to pass the third day after I was delivered that this woman was delivered also and we [were] together; [there was] no stranger with us in the house, except the two of us in the house.

19. और रात में इस स्त्री का बालक इसके नीचे दबकर मर गया।

19. And this woman's child died in the night because she lay on top of him.

20. तब इस ने आधी रात को उठकर, जब तेरी दासी सो ही रही थी, तब मेरा लड़का मेरे पास से लेकर अपनी छाती में रखा, और अपना मरा हुआ बालक मेरी छाती में लिटा दिया।

20. And she arose at midnight and took my son from beside me while thy handmaid slept, and laid it in her bosom and laid her dead child in my bosom.

21. भोर को जब मैं अपना बालक दूध पिलाने को उठी, तब उसे मरा हुआ पाया; परन्तु भोर को मैं ने ध्यान से यह देखा, कि वह मेरा पुत्रा नही है।

21. And when I rose in the morning to give my child suck, behold, it was dead; but when I had considered it in the morning, behold, it was not my son, which I had given birth to.

22. तब दूसरी स्त्री ने कहा, नहीं जीवित पुत्रा मेरा है, और मरा पुत्रा तेरा है। परन्तु वह कहती रही, नहीं मरा हुआ तेरा पुत्रा है और जीवित मेरा पुत्रा है, यों वे राजा के साम्हने बातें करती रही।

22. And the other woman said, No, but my son is alive, and thy son is dead. And this one said, No, but thy son is dead, and my son is alive. Thus they spoke before the king.

23. राजा ने कहा, एक तो कहती है जो जीवित है, वही मेरा पुत्रा है, और मरा हुआ तेरा पुत्रा है; और दूसरी कहती है, नहीं, जो मरा है वही तेरा पुत्रा है, और जो जीवित है, वह मेरा पुत्रा है।

23. Then said the king, The one saith, This [is] my son that is alive, and thy son [is] dead. And the other saith, No; but thy son [is] dead, and my son [is] alive.

24. फिर राजा ने कहा, मेरे पास तलवार ले आओ; सो एक तलवार राजा के साम्हने लाई गई।

24. And the king said, Bring me a sword. And they brought a sword before the king.

25. तब राजा बोला, जीविते बालक को दो टुकड़े करके आधा इसको और आधा उसको दो।

25. And the king said, Divide the living child in two and give half to the one and half to the other.

26. तब जीवित बालक की माता का मन अपने बेटे के स्नेह से भर आया, और उस ने राजा से कहा, हे मेरे प्रभु ! जीवित बालक उसी को दे; परन्तु उसको किसी भांति न मार। दूसरी स्त्री ने कहा, वह न तो मेरा हो और न तेरा, वह दो टुकड़े किया जाए।

26. Then the woman, of whom the living child [was], spoke unto the king, for her bowels yearned upon her son, and she said, O my lord, give her the living child and in no wise slay it. But the other said, Let it be neither mine nor thine, [but] divide [it].

27. तब राजा ने कहा, पहिली को जीवित बालक दो; किसी भांति उसको न पारो; क्योंकि उसकी माता वही है।

27. Then the king answered and said, Give her the living child, and in no wise slay it, for she [is] its mother.

28. जो न्याय राजा ने चुकाया था, उसका समाचार समस्त इस्राएल को मिला, और उन्हों ने राजा का भय माना, क्योंकि उन्हों ने यह देखा, कि उसके मन में न्याय करने के लिये परमेश्वर की बुध्दि है।

28. And all Israel heard of that judgment which the king had judged, and they feared the king, for they saw that the wisdom of God]was] in him, to judge.:
