1. जब दाऊद के मरने का समय निकट आया, तब उस ने अपने पुत्रा सुलैमान से कहा,

1. And the days of David drew near that he should die. And he addressed his son Solomon, saying, I go the way of all the earth;

2. कि मैं लोक की रीति पर कूच करनेवाला हूँ इसलिये तू हियाब बांधकर पुरूषार्थ दिखा।

2. but be strong, and show yourself a man;

3. और जो कुछ तेरे परमेश्वर यहोवा ने तुझे सौंपा है, उसकी रक्षा करके उसके माग पर चला करना और जैसा मूसा की व्यवस्था में लिखा है, वैसा ही उसकी विधियों तथा आज्ञाओं, और नियमों, और चितौनियों का पालन करते रहना; जिस से जो कुछ तू करे और जहां कहीं तू जाए, उस में तू सफल होए;

3. and keep the charge of the Lord your God, to walk in His ways, to keep the commandments and the ordinances and the judgments which are written in the Law of Moses; that you may understand what you shall do in all things that I command you:

4. और यहोवा अपना वह वचन पूरा करे जो उस ने मेरे विषय में कहा था, कि यदि तेरी सन्तान अपनी चाल के विषय में ऐसे सावधान रहें, कि अपने सम्पूर्ण हृदय और सम्पूर्ण प्राण से सच्चाई के साथ नित मेरे सम्मुख चलते रहें तब तो इस्राएल की राजगद्दी पर विराजनेवाले की, तेरे कुल परिवार में घटी कभी न होगी।

4. that the Lord may confirm His word which He spoke, saying, If your children shall take heed to their way to walk before Me in truth with all their heart, [I promise you], saying, there shall not fail you a man on the throne of Israel.

5. फिर तू स्वयं जानता है, कि सरूयाह के पुत्रा योआब ने मुझ से क्या क्या किया ! अर्थात् उस ने नेर के पुत्रा अब्नेर, और येतेर के पुत्रा अमासा, इस्राएल के इन दो सेनापतियों से क्या क्या किया। उस ने उन दोनों को घात किया, और मेल के सपय युठ्ठ का लोहू बहाकर उस से अपनी कमर का कमरबन्द और अपने पावों की जूतियां भिगो दीं।

5. Moreover you know all that Joab the son of Zeruiah did to me, what he did to the two captains of the forces of Israel, to Abner the son of Ner, and to Amasa the son of Jether, that he killed them, and shed the blood of war in peace [time], and put innocent blood on his belt that was about his loins, and on his sandal that was on his foot.

6. इसलिये तू अपनी बुध्दि से काम लेना और उस पक्के बालवाले को अधोलोक में शांति से उतरने न देना।

6. Therefore you shall deal [with him] according to your wisdom, and you shall not bring down his grey hairs in peace to the grave.

7. फिर गिलादी बर्जिल्लै के पुत्रों पर कृपा रखना, और वे तेरी मेज पर खानेवालों में रहें, क्योंकि जब मैं तेरे भाई अबशालोम के साम्हने से भागा जा रहा था, तब उन्हों ने मेरे पास आकर वैसा ही किया था।

7. But you shall deal kindly with the sons of Barzillai the Gileadite, and they shall be among those that eat at your table; for thus they drew near to me when I fled from the face of your brother Absalom.

8. फिर सुन, तेरे पास बिन्यामीनी गेरा का पुत्रा बहूरीमी शिमी रहता है, जिस दिन मैं महनैम को जाता था उस दिन उस ने मुझे कड़ाई से शाप दिया था पर जब वह मेरी भेंट के लिये यरदन को आया, तब मैं ने उस से यहोवा की यह शपथ खाई, कि मैं तुझे तलवार से न मार डालूंगा।

8. And behold, [there is] with you Shimei the son of Gera, a Benjamite of Bahurim: and he cursed me with a grievous curse in the day when I went into the camp; and he came down to the Jordan to meet me, and I swore to him by the Lord, saying, I will not put you to death with the sword.

9. परन्तु अब तू इसे निदष न ठहराना, तू तो बुध्दिमान पुरूष है; तुझे मालूम होगा कि उसके साथ क्या करना चाहिये, और उस पक्के बालवाले का लोहू बहाकर उसे अधोलोक में उतार देना।

9. But you shall by no means hold him guiltless, for you are a wise man, and will know what you shall do to him, and shall bring down his grey hairs with blood to the grave.

10. तब दाऊद अपने पुरखाओं के संग सो गया और दाऊदमुर में उसे मिट्टी दी गई।

10. And David slept with his fathers, and was buried in the City of David.

11. दाऊद ने इस्राएल पर चालीस वर्ष राज्य किया, सात वर्ष तो उस ने हब्रोन में और तैंतीस वर्ष यरूशलेम में राज्य किया था।

11. And the days which David reigned over Israel [were] forty years; he reigned seven years in Hebron, and thirty-three years in Jerusalem.

12. तब सुलैमान अपने पिता दाऊद की गद्दी पर विराजमान हुआ और उसका राज्य बहुत दृढ़ हुआ।

12. And Solomon sat on the throne of his father David, and his kingdom was established greatly.

13. और हग्गीत का पुत्रा अदोनिरयाह, सुलैमान की माता बतशेबा के पास आया, और बतशेबा ने पूछा, क्या तू मित्राभाव से आता है?

13. And Adonijah the son of Haggith came to Bathsheba the mother of Solomon, and bowed down to her. And she said, Do you enter peaceably? And he said, Peaceably.

14. उस ने उत्तर दिया, हां, मित्राभाव से ! फिर वह कहने लगा, मुझे तुझ से एक बात कहनी है। उस ने कहा, कह !

14. [He said,] I have business with you. And she said to him, Speak on.

15. उस ने कहा, तुझे तो मालूम है कि राज्य मेरा हो गया था, और समस्त इस्राएली मेरी ओर मुंह किए थे, कि मैं राज्य करूं; परन्तु अब राज्य पलटकर मेरे भाई का हो गया है, क्योंकि वह यहोवा की ओर से उसको मिला है।

15. And he said to her, You know that the kingdom was mine, and all Israel turned their face toward me for a king; but the kingdom was turned [from me] and became my brother's; for it was [appointed] to him from the Lord.

16. इसलिये अब मैं तुझ से एक बात मांगता हूँ, मुझ से नाही न करना उस ने कहा, कहे जा।

16. And now I make one request of you, do not turn away your face. And Bathsheba said to him, Speak [on].

17. उस ने कहा, राजा सुलैमान तुझ से नाही न करेगा; इसलिये उस से कह, कि वह मुझे शूनेमिन अबीशग को ब्याह दे।

17. And he said to her, Speak to King Solomon, for he will not turn away his face from you, and let him give me Abishag the Shunammite for a wife.

18. बतशेबा ने कहा, अच्छा, मैं तेरे लिये राजा से कहूंगी।

18. And Bathsheba said, Very well; I will speak to the king for you.

19. तब बतशेबा अदोनिरयाह के लिये राजा सुलैमान से बातचीत करने को उसके पास गई, और राजा उसकी भेंट के लिये उठा, और उसे दणडवत् करके अपने सिंहासन पर बैठ गयो फिर राजा ने अपनी माता के लिये एक सिंहासन रख दिया, और वह उसकी दाहिनी ओर बैठ गई।

19. And Bathsheba went in to King Solomon to speak to him concerning Adonijah. And the king rose up to meet her, and kissed her, and sat on the throne, and a throne was set for the mother of the king, and she sat on his right hand.

20. तब वह कहने लगी, मैं तुझ से एक छोटा सा वरदान मांगती हूँ इसलिये पुझ से नाही न करना, राजा ने कहा, हे माता मांग; मैं तुझ से नाही न करूंगा।

20. And she said to him, I ask of you one little request; turn not away my face from you. And the king said to her, Ask, my mother, and I will not reject you.

21. उस ने कहा, वह शूनेमिन अबीशग तेरे भाई अदोनिरयाह को ब्याह दी जाए।

21. And she said, Let Abishag the Shunammite be given to Adonijah your brother for a wife.

22. राजा सुलैमान ने अपनी माता को उत्तर दिया, तू अदोनिरयाह के लिये शूनेमिन अबीशग ही को क्यो मांगती है? उसके लिये राज्य भी मांग, क्योंकि वह तो मेरा बड़ा भाई है, और उसी के लिये क्या ! एब्यातार याजक और सरूयाह के पुत्रा योआब के लिये भी मांग।

22. And King Solomon answered and said to his mother, And why have you asked [for] Abishag for Adonijah? Ask for him the kingdom also; for he [is] my older brother, and he has for his companion Abiathar the priest, and Joab the son of Zeruiah the commander-in-chief.

23. और राजा सुलैमान ने यहोवा की शपथ खाकर कहा, यदि अदोनिरयाह ने यह बात अपने प्राण पर खेलकर न कही हो तो परमेश्वर मुझ से वैसा ही क्या वरन उस से भी अधिक करे।

23. And King Solomon swore by the Lord, saying, God do so to me, and more also, [if it be not] that Adonijah has spoken this word against his own life.

24. अब यहोवा जिस ने पुझे स्थिर किया, और मेरे पिता दाऊद की राजगद्दी पर विराजमान किया है और अपने वचन के अनुसार मेरे घर बसाया है, उसके जीपन की शपथ आज ही अदोनिरयाह मार डाला जाएगा।

24. And now [as] the Lord lives who has established me, and set me on the throne of my father David, and He has made me a house, as the Lord spoke, this day shall Adonijah be put to death.

25. और राजा सुलैमान ने यहोयादा के पुत्रा बनायाह को भेज दिया और उस ने जाकर, उसको ऐसा मारा कि वह मर गया।

25. So King Solomon sent by the hand of Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and he killed him, and Adonijah died in that day.

26. और एब्यातार याजक से राजा ने कहा, अनातोत में अपनी भूमि को जा; क्योंकि तू भी प्राणदणड के योग्य है। आज के दिन तो मैं तुझे न मार डालूंगा, क्योंकि तू मेरे पिता दाऊद के साम्हने प्रभु यहोवा का सन्दूक उठाया करता था; और उन सब दु:खों में जो मेरे पिता पर पड़े थे तू भी दु:खी था।

26. And the king said to Abiathar the priest, Depart quickly to Anathoth, to your farm, for you are worthy of death this day; but I will not slay you, because you have borne the ark of the covenant of the Lord before my father, and because you were afflicted in all things in which my father was afflicted.

27. और सुलैमान ने एब्यातार को यहोवा के याजक होने के पद से उतार दिया, इसलिये कि जो वचन यहोवा ने एली के वंश के विषय में शीलो में कहा था, वह पूरा हो जाए।

27. And Solomon removed Abiathar from being a priest of the Lord, that the word of the Lord might be fulfilled, which he spoke concerning the house of Eli in Shiloh.

28. इसका समाचार योआब तक पहुंचा; योआब अबशालोम के पीछे तो नहीं हो लिया था, परन्तु अदोनिरयाह के पीछे हो लिया था। तब योआब यहोवा के तम्बू को भाग गया, और वेदी के सींगों को पकड़ लिया।

28. And the report came to Joab son of Zeruiah; for Joab had turned after Adonijah, and he went not after Solomon. And Joab fled to the tabernacle of the Lord, and caught hold of the horns of the altar.

29. जब राजा सुलैमान को यह समाचार मिला, कि योआब यहोवा के तम्बू को भाग गया है, और वह वेदी के पास है, तब सुलैमान ने यहोयादा के पुत्रा बनायाह को यह कहकर भेज दिया, कि तू जाकर उसे मार डाल।

29. And it was told Solomon, saying, Joab has fled to the tabernacle of the Lord, and lo! He has taken hold of the horns of the altar. And King Solomon sent to Joab, saying, What ails you, that you have fled to the altar? And Joab said, Because I was afraid of you, and fled for refuge to the Lord. And Solomon sent Benaiah son of Jehoiada, saying, Go and slay him, and bury him.

30. तब बनायाह ने यहोवा के तम्बू के पास जाकर उससे कहा, राजा की यह आज्ञा है, कि निकल आ। उस ने कहा, नहीं, मैं यहीं मर जाऊंगा। तब बनायाह ने लौटकर यह सन्देश राजा को दिया कि योआब ने मुझे यह उत्तर दिया।

30. And Benaiah son of Jehoiada came to Joab to the tabernacle of the Lord, and said to him, Thus says the king, Come forth. And Joab said, I will not come forth, for I will die here. And Benaiah son of Jehoiada returned and spoke to the king, saying, Thus has Joab spoken, and thus has he answered me.

31. राजा ने उस से कहा, उसके कहने के अनुसार उसको मार डाल, और उसे मिट्टी दे; ऐसा करके निदषों का जो खून योआब ने किया है, उसका दोष तू मुझ पर से और मेरे पिता के घराने पर से दूर करेगा।

31. And the king said to him, Go, and do to him as he has spoken, and kill him. And you shall bury him, and you shall remove this day the blood which he shed without cause, from me and from the house of my father.

32. और यहोवा उसके सिर वह खून लौटा देगा क्योंकि उस ने मेरे पिता दाऊद के बिना जाने अपने से अधिक धम और भले दो पुरूषों पर, अर्थात् इस्राएल के प्रधान सेनापति नेर के पुत्रा अब्नेर और यहूदा के प्रधान सेनापति येतेर के पुत्रा अमासा पर टूटकर उनको तलवार से मार डाला था।

32. And the Lord has returned upon his own head the blood of his unrighteousness, inasmuch as he attacked two men more righteous and better than himself, and slew them with the sword, and my father David knew not of their blood, [even] Abner the son of Ner the commander-in-chief of Israel, and Amasa the son of Jether the commander-in-chief of Judah.

33. यों योआब के सिर पर और उसकी सन्तान के सिर पर खून सदा तक रहेगा, परन्तु दाऊद और उसके वंश और उसके घराने और उसके राज्य पर यहोवा की ओर से शांति सदैव तक रहेगी।

33. And their blood is returned upon his head, and upon the head of his seed forever; but to David, and his seed, and his house, and his throne, may there be peace forever from the Lord.

34. तब यहोयादा के पुत्रा बनायाह ने जाकर योआब को मार डाला; और उसको जंगल में उसी के घर में मिट्टी दी गई।

34. So Benaiah son of Jehoiada went up, and attacked him, and killed him, and buried him in his house in the wilderness.

35. तब राजा ने उसके स्थान पर यहोयादा के पुत्रा बनायाह को प्रधान सेनापति ठहराया; और एब्यातार के स्थान पर सादोक याजक को ठहराया।

35. And the king appointed Benaiah son of Jehoiada in his place over the army; and the kingdom was established in Jerusalem. And [as for] Zadok the priest, the king appointed him to be high priest in place of Abiathar. And Solomon son of David reigned over Israel and Judah in Jerusalem. And the Lord gave understanding to Solomon, and very much wisdom, and largeness of heart, as the sand by the seashore.

36. और राजा ने शिमी को बुलवा भेजा, और उस से कहा, तू यरूशलेम में अपना एक घर बनाकर वहीं रहनो और नगर से बाहर कहीं न जाना।

36. And the king called Shimei, and said to him, Build yourself a house in Jerusalem, and dwell there, and you shall not go out from there anywhere.

37. तू निश्चय जान रख कि जिस दिन तू निकलकर किद्रोन नाले के पार उतरे, उसी दिन तू निेसन्देह मार डाला जाएगा, और तेरा लोहू तेरे ही सिर पर पड़ेगा।

37. And it shall come to pass in the day that you shall go forth and cross over the Brook Kidron, know assuredly that you shall certainly die: your blood shall be upon your head. And the king caused him to swear in that day.

38. शिमी ने राजा से कहा, बात अच्छी है; जैसा मेरे प्रभु राजा ने कहा है, वैसा ही तेरा दास करेगा। तब शिमी बहुत दिन यरूशलेम में रहा।

38. And Shimei said to the king, Good [is] the word that you have spoken, my lord O king: thus will your servant do. And Shimei dwelt in Jerusalem three years.

39. परन्तु तीन वर्ष के व्यतीत होने पर शिमी के दो दास, गत नगर के राजा माका के पुत्रा आकीश के पास भाग गए, और शिमी को यह समाचार मिला, कि तेरे दास गत में हैं।

39. And it came to pass after the three years, that two servants of Shimei ran away to Achish son of Maacha king of Gath. And it was told Shimei, saying, Behold, your servants [are] in Gath.

40. तब शिमी उठकर अपने गदहे पर काठी कसकर, अपने दास को ढूंढ़ने के लिये गत को आकीश के पास गया, और अपने दासों को गत से ले आया।

40. And Shimei rose up, and saddled his donkey, and went to Gath, to Achish, to seek out his servants. And Shimei went, and brought his servants out of Gath.

41. जब सुलैमान राजा को इसका समाचार मिला, कि शिमी यरूशलेम से गत को गया, और फिर लौट आया है,

41. And it was told Solomon, saying, Shimei has gone out of Jerusalem to Gath, and has brought back his servants.

42. तब उस ने शिमी को बुलवा भेजा, और उस से कहा, क्या मैं ने तुझे यहोवा की शपथ न खिलाई थी? और तुझ से चिताकर न कहा था, कि यह निश्चय जान रख कि जिस दिन तू निकलकर कहीं चला जाए, उसी दिन तू निेसन्देह मार डाला जाएगा? और क्या तू ने मुझ से न कहा था, कि जो बात मैं ने सुनी, वह अच्छी है?

42. And the king sent and called Shimei, and said to him, Did I not adjure you by the Lord, and testify to you, saying, In whatsoever day you shall go out of Jerusalem, and go to the right or left, know certainly that you shall surely die?

43. फिर तू ने यहोवा की शपथ और मेरी दृढ़ आज्ञा क्यों नहीं मानी?

43. And why have you not kept the oath of the Lord, and the commandment which I commanded you?

44. और राजा ने शिमी से कहा, कि तू आप ही अपने मन में उस सब दुष्टता को जानता है, जो तू ने मेरे पिता दाऊद से की थी? इसलिये यहोवा तेरे सिर पर तेरी दुष्टता लौटा देगा।

44. And the king said to Shimei, You know all your mischief which your heart knows, which you did to David my father; and the Lord has recompensed your mischief on your [own] head.

45. परन्तु राजा सुलैमान धन्य रहेगा, और दाऊद का राज्य यहोवा के साम्हने सदैव दृढ़ रहेगा।

45. But King Solomon [shall be] blessed, and the throne of David shall be established before the Lord forever.

46. तब राजा ने यहोयादा के पुत्रा बनायाह को आज्ञा दी, और उस ने बाहर जाकर, उसको ऐसा मारा कि वह भी मर गया। और सुलैमान के हाथ मे राज्य दृढ़ हो गया।

46. And Solomon commanded Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and he went forth and killed him. And King Solomon was very prudent and wise. And Judah and Israel [were] very many, as the sand which is by the sea in multitude, eating and drinking, and rejoicing. And Solomon was chief in all the kingdoms, and they brought gifts, and served Solomon all the days of his life. And Solomon began to open the domains of Lebanon, and he built Terman in the wilderness. And this was the daily provision of Solomon, thirty measures of fine flour, and sixty measures of ground meal, ten choice calves, and twenty oxen from the pastures, and a hundred sheep, besides stags, and does, and choice fed birds. For he ruled in all the country on this side of the river, from Raphi unto Gaza, over all the kings on this side of the river. And he was at peace on all sides round about; and Judah and Israel dwelt safely, everyone under his vine and under his fig tree, eating and drinking and feasting, from Dan even to Beersheba, all the days of Solomon. And these [were] the princes of Solomon: Azariu son of Zadok the priest, and Orniu son of Nathan chief of the officers, and he went to his house; and Suba the scribe, and Basa son of Achithalam the recorder, and Abi son of Joab commander-in-chief, and Achire son of Edrai [was] over the levites, and Benaiah son of Jehoiada over the household and over the brickwork, and Cachur the son of Nathan [was] counselor.
