1. उन दिनों में इस्राएलियों का कोई राजा न था। और उन्हीं दिनों में दानियों के गोत्रा के लोग रहने के लिये कोई भाग ढूंढ़ रहे थे; क्योंकि इस्राएली गोत्रों के बीच उनका भाग उस समय तक न मिला था।

1. In those days there was no king in Israel; and in those days the tribe of the Danites sought for themselves an inheritance to dwell in, for until that day all their inheritance had not fallen unto them among the tribes of Israel.

2. तब दानियों ने अपने सब कुल में से पांच शूरवीरों को सोरा और एशताओल से देश का भेद लेने और उस में देख भाल करने के लिये यह कहकर भेज दिया, कि जाकर देश में देख भाल करो। इसलिये वे एप्रैम के पहाड़ी देश में मीका के घर तक जाकर वहां टिक गए।

2. And the children of Dan sent of their family five men from their borders, men of valor from Zorah and from Eshtaol, to spy out the land and to search it. And they said unto them, 'Go, search the land,' who, when they came to Mount Ephraim to the house of Micah, they lodged there.

3. जब वे मीका के घर के पास आए, तब उस जवान लेवीय का बोल पहचाना; इसलिये वहां मुड़कर उस से पूछा, तुझे यहां कौन ले आया? और तू यहां क्या करता है? और यहां तेरे पास क्या है?

3. When they were by the house of Micah, they knew the voice of the young man, the Levite; and they turned in thither and said unto him, 'Who brought thee hither? And what makest thou in this place? And what hast thou here?'

4. उस ने उन से कहा, मीका ने मुझ से ऐसा ऐसा व्यवहार किया है, और मुझे नौकर रखा है, और मैं उसका पुरोहित हो गया हूं।

4. And he said unto them, 'Thus and thus dealeth Micah with me and hath hired me, and I am his priest.'

5. उन्हों ने उस से कहा, परमेश्वर से सलाह ले, कि हम जान लें कि जो यात्रा हम करते हैं वह सफल होगी वा नहीं।

5. And they said unto him, 'Ask counsel, we pray thee, of God, that we may know whether our way which we go shall be prosperous.'

6. पुरोहित ने उन से कहा, कुशल से चले जाओ। जो यात्रा तुम करते हो वह ठीक यहोवा के साम्हने है।

6. And the priest said unto them, 'Go in peace. Your way wherein ye go is before the LORD.'

7. तब वे पांच मनुष्य चल निकले, और लैश को जाकर वहां के लोगों को देखा कि सीदोनियों की नाईं निडर, बेखटके, और शान्ति से रहते हैं; और इस देश का कोई अधिकारी नहीं है, जो उन्हें किसी काम में रोके, और ये सीदोनियों से दूर रहते हैं, और दूसरे मनुष्यों से कुछ व्यवहार नहीं रखते।

7. Then the five men departed and came to Laish, and saw the people who were therein, how they dwelt free from care, after the manner of the Sidonians, quiet and secure. And there was no magistrate in the land who might put them to shame in any thing, and they were far from the Sidonians and had no business with any man.

8. तब वे सोरा और एश्ताओल को अपने भाइयों के पास गए, और उनके भाइयों ने उन से पूछा, तुम क्या समाचार ले आए हो?

8. And they came unto their brethren to Zorah and Eshtaol; and their brethren said unto them, 'What say ye?'

9. उन्हों ने कहा, आओ, हम उन लोगों पर चढ़ाई करें; क्योंकि हम ने उस देश को देखा कि वह बहुत अच्छा है। तुम क्यों चुपचाप रहते हो? वहां चलकर उस देश को अपने वंश में कर लेने में आलस न करो।

9. And they said, 'Arise, that we may go up against them; for we have seen the land, and behold, it is very good. And are ye still? Be not slothful to go and to enter to possess the land.

10. वहां पहुंचकर तुम निडर रहते हुए लोगों को, और लम्बा चौड़ा देश पाओगे; और परमेश्वर ने उसे तुम्हारे हाथ में दे दिया है। वह ऐसा स्थान है जिस में पृथ्वी भर के किसी पदार्थ की घटी नहीं है।।

10. When ye go, ye shall come unto a people secure and to a large land. For God hath given it into your hands, a place where there is no want of any thing that is in the earth.'

11. तब वहां से अर्थात् सोरा और एशताओल से दानियों के कुल के छ: सौ पुरूषों ने युद्ध के हथियार बान्धकर प्रस्थान किया।

11. And there went from thence of the family of the Danites, out of Zorah and out of Eshtaol, six hundred men appointed with weapons of war.

12. उन्होंने जाकर यहूदा देश के किरर्यत्यारीम नगर में डेरे खड़े किए। इस कारण उस स्थान का नाम महनेदान आज तक पड़ा है, वह तो किरर्यत्यारीम के पश्चिम की ओर है।

12. And they went up and pitched camp in Kirjathjearim in Judah. Therefore they called that place Mahanehdan unto this day; behold, it is behind Kirjathjearim.

13. वहां से वे आगे बढ़कर एप्रैम के पहाड़ी देश में मीका के घर के पास आए।

13. And they passed from thence unto Mount Ephraim and came unto the house of Micah.

15. वे उधर मुड़कर उस जवान लेवीय के घर गए, जो मीका का घर था, और उसका कुशल क्षेम पूछा।

15. And they turned in that direction, and came to the house of the young man, the Levite, even unto the house of Micah, and saluted him.

16. और वे छ: सौ दानी पुरूष फाटक में हथियार बान्धे हुए खड़े रहे।

16. And the six hundred men appointed with their weapons of war, who were of the children of Dan, stood by the entrance of the gate.

17. और जो पांच मनुष्य देश का भेद लेने गए थे, उन्हों ने वहां घुसकर उस खुदी हुई मूरत, और एपोद, और गृहदेवताओं, और ढली हुई मूरत को ले लिया, और वह पुरोहित फाटक में उन हथियार बान्धे हुए छ: सौ पुरूषों के संग खड़ा था।

17. And the five men who went to spy out the land went up and came in thither, and took the graven image and the ephod and the teraphim and the molten image; and the priest stood in the entrance of the gate with the six hundred men who were appointed with weapons of war.

18. जब वे पांच मनुष्य मीका के घर में घुसकर खुदी हुई मूरत, एपोद, गृहदेवता, और ढली हुई मूरत को ले आए थे, तब पुरोहित ने उन से पूछा, यह तुम क्या करते हो?

18. And these went into Micah's house and fetched the carved image, the ephod and the teraphim and the molten image. Then said the priest unto them, 'What do ye?'

19. उन्हों ने उस से कहा, चुप रह, अपने मुंह को हाथ से बन्दकर, और हम लोगों के संग चलकर, हमारे लिये पिता और पुरोहित बन। तेरे लिये क्या अच्छा है? यह, कि एक ही मनुष्य के घराने का पुरोहित हो, वा यह, कि इस्राएलियों के एक गोत्रा और कुल का पुरोहित हो?

19. And they said unto him, 'Hold thy peace. Lay thine hand upon thy mouth and go with us, and be to us a father and a priest. Is it better for thee to be a priest unto the house of one man, or that thou be a priest unto a tribe and a family in Israel?'

20. तब पुरोहित प्रसन्न हुआ, सो वह एपोद, गृहदेवता, और खुदी हुई मूरत को लेकर उन लोगों के संग चला गया।

20. And the priest's heart was glad; and he took the ephod and the teraphim and the graven image, and went in the midst of the people.

21. तब वे मुड़े, और बालबच्चों, पशुओं, और सामान को अपने आगे करके चल दिए।

21. So they turned and departed, and put the little ones and the cattle and their baggage in front of them.

22. जब वे मीका के घर से दूर निकल गए थे, तब जो मनुष्य मीका के घर के पासवाले घरों में रहते थे उन्हों ने इकट्ठे होकर दानियों को जा लिया।

22. And when they were a good way from the house of Micah, the men who were in the houses near to Micah's house were gathered together and overtook the children of Dan.

23. और दानियों को पुकारा, तब उन्हों ने मुंह फेर के मीका से कहा, तुझे क्या हुआ कि तू इतना बड़ा दल लिए आता है?

23. And they cried unto the children of Dan; and they turned their faces and said unto Micah, 'What aileth thee, that thou comest with such a company?'

24. उस ने कहा, तुम तो मेरे बनवाए हुए देवताओं और पुरोहित को ले चले हो; फिर मेरे पास क्या रह गया? तो तुम मुझ से क्यों पूछते हो? कि तुझे क्या हुआ है?

24. And he said, 'Ye have taken away my gods which I made and the priest, and ye have gone away. And what have I more? And what is this that ye say unto me, `What aileth thee?''

25. दानियों ने उस से कहा, तेरा बोल हम लोगों में सुनाई न दे, कहीं ऐसा न हो कि क्रोधी जन तुम लोगों पर प्रहार करें? और तू अपना और अपने घर के लोगों के भी प्राण को खो दे।

25. And the children of Dan said unto him, 'Let not thy voice be heard among us, lest angry fellows run upon thee and thou lose thy life with the lives of thy household.'

26. तब दानियों ने अपना मार्ग लिया; और मीका यह देखकर कि वे मुझ से अधिक बलवन्त हैं फिरके अपने घर लौट गया।

26. And the children of Dan went their way; and when Micah saw that they were too strong for him, he turned and went back unto his house.

27. और वे मीका के बनवाए हुए पदार्थों और उसके पुरोहित को साथ ले लैश के पास आए, जिसके लोग शान्ति से और बिना खटके रहते थे, और उन्हों ने उनको तलवार से मार डाला, और नगर को आग लगाकर फूंक दिया।

27. And they took the things which Micah had made and the priest whom he had, and came unto Laish, unto a people who were at quiet and secure; and they smote them with the edge of the sword and burned the city with fire.

28. और कोई बचानेवाला न था, क्योंकि वह सीदोन से दूर था, और वे और मनुष्यों से कुछ व्यवहार न रखते थे। और वह बेत्राहोब की तराई में था। तब उन्हों ने नगर को दृढ़ किया, और उस में रहने लगे।

28. And there was no deliverer, because it was far from Sidon, and they had no business with any man; and it was in the valley that lieth by Bethrehob. And they built a city and dwelt therein;

29. और उन्हों ने उस नगर का नाम इस्राएल के एक पुत्रा अपने मूलपुरूष दान के नाम पर दान रखा; परन्तु पहिले तो उस नगर का नाम लैश था।

29. and they called the name of the city Dan, after the name of Dan their father, who was born unto Israel. However, the name of the city was Laish at the first.

30. तब दानियों ने उस खुदी हुई मूरत को खड़ा कर लिया; और देश की बन्धुआई के समय वह योनातान जो गेर्शोम का पुत्रा और मूसा का पोता था, वह और उसके वंश के लोग दान गोत्रा के पुरोहित बने रहे।

30. And the children of Dan set up the graven image; and Jonathan, the son of Gershom, the son of Manasseh, he and his sons were priests to the tribe of Dan until the day of the captivity of the land.

31. और जब तक परमेश्वर का भवन शीलो में बना रहा, तब तक वे मीका की खुदवाई हुई मूरत को स्थापित किए रहे।।

31. And they set up for themselves Micah's graven image which he made, all the time that the house of God was in Shiloh.
