1. मैंने अपने मन में यही ठान लिया था कि फिर तुम्हारे पास उदास होकर न आऊं।

1. But I determined this within myself, that I would not come again to you in sorrow.

2. क्योंकि यदि मैं तुम्हें उदास करूं, तो मुझे आनन्द देनेवाला कौन होगा, केवल वही जिस को मैं ने उदास किया?

2. For if I make you sorrowful, then who is he who makes me glad but the one who is made sorrowful by me?

3. और मैं ने यही बात तुम्हें इसलिये लिखी, कि कहीं ऐसा न हो, कि मेरे आने पर जिन से आनन्द मिलना चाहिए, मैं उन से उदास होऊं; क्योंकि मुझे तुम सब पर इस बात का भरोसा है, कि जो मेरा आनन्द है, वही तुम सब का भी है।

3. And I wrote this very thing to you, lest, when I came, I should have sorrow over those from whom I ought to have joy, having confidence in you all that my joy is [the joy] of you all.

4. बड़े क्लेश, और मन के कष्ट से, मैं ने बहुत से आंसु बहा बहाकर तुम्हें लिखा, इसलिये नहीं, कि तुम उदास हो, परन्तु इसलिये कि तुम उस बड़े प्रेम को जान लो, जो मुझे तुम से है।।

4. For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote to you, with many tears, not that you should be grieved, but that you might know the love which I have so abundantly for you.

5. और यदि किसी ने उदास किया है, तो मुझे ही नहीं बरन (कि उसके साथ बहुत कड़ाई न करूं) कुछ कुछ तुम सब को भी उदास किया है।

5. But if anyone has caused grief, he has not grieved me, but all of you to some extent -- not to be too severe.

6. ऐसे जन के लिये यह दण्ड जो भाइयों में से बहुतों ने दिया, बहुत है।

6. This punishment which [was inflicted] by the majority [is] sufficient for such a man,

7. इसलिये इस से यह भला है कि उसका अपराध क्षमा करो; और शान्ति दो, न हो कि ऐसा मनुष्य उदासी में डूब जाए।

7. so that, on the contrary, you [ought] rather to forgive and comfort [him,] lest perhaps such a one be swallowed up with too much sorrow.

8. इस कारण मैं तुम से बिनती करता हूं, कि उस को अपने प्रेम का प्रमाण दो।

8. Therefore I urge you to reaffirm [your] love to him.

9. क्योंकि मैं ने इसलिये भी लिखा था, कि तुम्हें परख लूं, कि सब बातों के मानने के लिये तैयार हो, कि नहीं।

9. For to this end I also wrote, that I might put you to the test, whether you are obedient in all things.

10. जिस का तुम कुछ क्षमा करते हो उस मैं भी क्षमा करता हूं, क्योंकि मैं ने भी जो कुछ क्षमा किया है, यदि किया हो, तो तुम्हारे कारण मसीह की जगह में होकर क्षमा किया है।

10. Now whom you forgive anything, I also [forgive.] For if indeed I have forgiven anything, I have forgiven that one for your sakes in the presence of Christ,

11. कि शैतान का हम पर दांव न चले, क्योंकि हम उस की युक्तियों से अनजान नहीं।

11. lest Satan should take advantage of us; for we are not ignorant of his devices.

12. और जब मैं मसीह का सुसमाचार, सुनाने को त्रोआस में आया, और प्रभु ने मेरे लिये एक द्वार खोल दिया।

12. Furthermore, when I came to Troas to [preach] Christ's gospel, and a door was opened to me by the Lord,

13. तो मेरे मन में चैन ने मिला, इसलिये कि मैं ने अपने भाई तितुस को नहीं पाया; सो उन से विदा होकर मैं मकिदुनिया को चला गया।

13. I had no rest in my spirit, because I did not find Titus my brother; but taking my leave of them, I departed for Macedonia.

14. परन्तु परमेश्वर का धन्यवाद हो, जो मसीह में सदा हम को जय के उत्सव में लिये फिरता है, और अपने ज्ञान का सुगन्ध हमारे द्वारा हर जगह फैलाता है।

14. Now thanks [be] to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place.

15. क्योंकि हम परमेश्वर के निकट उद्धार पानेवालों, और नाश होनेवालों, दोनो के लिये मसीह के सुगन्ध हैं।

15. For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing.

16. कितनो के लिये तो मरने के निमित्त मृन्यु की गन्ध, और कितनो के लिये जीवन के निमित्त जीवन की सुगन्ध, और इन बातों के योग्य कौन है?

16. To the one [we are] the aroma of death [leading] to death, and to the other the aroma of life [leading] to life. And who [is] sufficient for these things?

17. क्योंकि हम उन बहुतों के समान नहीं, जो परमेश्वर के वचन में मिलावट करते हैं; परन्तु मन की सच्चाई से, और परमेश्वर की ओर से परमेश्वर को उपस्थित जानकर मसीह में बोलते हैं।।

17. For we are not, as so many, peddling the word of God; but as of sincerity, but as from God, we speak in the sight of God in Christ.
