1. तब परमेश्वर ने ये सब वचन कहे,

1. GOD spoke all these words:

2. कि मै तेरा परमेश्वर यहोवा हूं, जो तुझे दासत्व के घर अर्थात् मि देश से निकाल लाया है।।

2. I am GOD, your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of a life of slavery.

3. तू मुझे छोड़ दूसरों को ईश्वर करके न मानना।।

3. No other gods, only me.

4. तू अपने लिये कोई मूर्ति खोदकर न बनाना, न किसी कि प्रतिमा बनाना, जो आकाश में, वा पृथ्वी पर, वा पृथ्वी के जल में है।

4. No carved gods of any size, shape, or form of anything whatever, whether of things that fly or walk or swim.

5. तू उनको दण्डवत् न करना, और न उनकी उपासना करना; क्योंकि मै तेरा परमेश्वर यहोवा जलन रखने वाला ईश्वर हूं, और जो मुझ से बैर रखते है, उनके बेटों, पोतों, और परपोतों को भी पितरों का दण्ड दिया करता हूं,

5. Don't bow down to them and don't serve them because I am GOD, your God, and I'm a most jealous God, punishing the children for any sins their parents pass on to them to the third, and yes, even to the fourth generation of those who hate me.

6. और जो मुझ से प्रेम रखते और मेरी आज्ञाओं को मानते हैं, उन हजारों पर करूणा किया करता हूं।।

6. But I'm unswervingly loyal to the thousands who love me and keep my commandments.

7. तू अपने परमेश्वर का नाम व्यर्थ न लेना; क्योंकि जो यहोवा का नाम व्यर्थ ले वह उसको निर्दोष न ठहराएगा।।

7. No using the name of GOD, your God, in curses or silly banter; GOD won't put up with the irreverant use of his name.

8. तू विश्रामदिन को पवित्रा मानने के लिये स्मरण रखना।

8. Observe the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.

9. छ: दिन तो तू परिश्रम करके अपना सब काम काज करना;

9. Work six days and do everything you need to do.

10. परन्तु सातवां दिन तेरे परमेश्वर यहोवा के लिये विश्रामदिन है। उस में न तो तू किसी भांति का काम काज करना, और न तेरा बेटा, न तेरी बेटी, न तेरा दास, न तेरी दासी, न तेरे पशु, न कोई परदेशी जो तेरे फाटकों के भीतर हो।

10. But the seventh day is a Sabbath to GOD, your God. Don't do any work--not you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your servant, nor your maid, nor your animals, not even the foreign guest visiting in your town.

11. क्योंकि छ: दिन में यहोवा ने आकाश, और पृथ्वी, और समुद्र, और जो कुछ उन में है, सब को बनाया, और सातवें दिन विश्राम किया; इस कारण यहोवा ने विश्रामदिन को आशीष दी और उसको पवित्रा ठहराया।।

11. For in six days GOD made Heaven, Earth, and sea, and everything in them; he rested on the seventh day. Therefore GOD blessed the Sabbath day; he set it apart as a holy day.

12. तू अपने पिता और अपनी माता का आदर करना, जिस से जो देश तेरा परमेश्वर यहोवा तुझे देता है उस में तू बहुत दिन तक रहने पाए।।

12. Honor your father and mother so that you'll live a long time in the land that GOD, your God, is giving you.

13. तू खून न करना।।

13. No murder.

14. तू व्यभिचार न करना।।

14. No adultery.

15. तू चोरी न करना।।

15. No stealing.

16. तू किसी के विरूद्ध झूठी साक्षी न देना।।

16. No lies about your neighbor.

17. तू किसी के घर का लालच न करना; न तो किसी की स्त्री का लालच करना, और न किसी के दास- दासी, वा बैल गदहे का, न किसी की किसी वस्तु का लालच करना।।

17. No lusting after your neighbor's house--or wife or servant or maid or ox or donkey. Don't set your heart on anything that is your neighbor's.

18. और सब लोग गरजने और बिजली और नरसिंगे के शब्द सुनते, और धुआं उठते हुए पर्वत को देखते रहे, और देखके, कांपकर दूर खड़े हो गए;

18. All the people, experiencing the thunder and lightning, the trumpet blast and the smoking mountain, were afraid--they pulled back and stood at a distance.

19. और वे मूसा से कहने लगे, तू ही हम से बातें कर, तब तो हम सुन सकेंगे; परन्तु परमेश्वर हम से बातें न करे, ऐसा न हो कि हम मर जाएं।

19. They said to Moses, 'You speak to us and we'll listen, but don't have God speak to us or we'll die.'

20. मूसा ने लोगों से कहा, डरो मत; क्योंकि परमेश्वर इस निमित्त आया है कि तुम्हारी परीक्षा करे, और उसका भय तुम्हारे मन में बना रहे, कि तुम पाप न करो।

20. Moses spoke to the people: 'Don't be afraid. God has come to test you and instill a deep and reverent awe within you so that you won't sin.'

21. और वे लोग तो दूर ही खड़े रहे, परन्तु मूसा उस घोर अन्धकार के समीप गया जहां परमेश्वर था।।

21. The people kept their distance while Moses approached the thick cloud where God was.

22. तब यहोवा ने मूसा से कहा, तू इस्त्राएलियों को मेरे ये वचन सुना, कि तुम लोगों ने तो आप ही देखा है कि मै ने तुम्हारे साथ आकाश से बातें की हैं।

22. GOD said to Moses, 'Give this Message to the People of Israel: 'You've experienced firsthand how I spoke with you from Heaven.

23. तुम मेरे साथ किसी को सम्मिलित न करना, अर्थात् अपने लिये चान्दी वा सोने से देवताओं को न गढ़ लेना।

23. Don't make gods of silver and gods of gold and then set them alongside me.

24. मेरे लिये मिट्टी की एक वेदी बनाना, और अपनी भेड़- बकरियों और गाय- बैलों के होमबलि और मेलबलि को उस पर चढ़ाना; जहां जहां मैं अपने नाम का स्मरण कराऊं वहां वहां मैं आकर तुम्हें आशीष दूंगा।

24. Make me an earthen Altar. Sacrifice your Whole-Burnt-Offerings, your Peace-Offerings, your sheep, and your cattle on it. Every place where I cause my name to be honored in your worship, I'll be there myself and bless you.

25. और यदि तुम मेरे लिये पत्थरों की वेदी बनाओ, तो तराशे हुए पत्थरों से न बनाना; क्योंकि जहां तुम ने उस पर अपना हथियार लगाया वहां तू उसे अशुद्ध कर देगा।

25. If you use stones to make my Altar, don't use dressed stones. If you use a chisel on the stones you'll profane the Altar.

26. और मेरी वेदी पर सीढ़ी से कभी न चढ़ना, कहीं ऐसा न हो कि तेरा तन उस पर नंगा देख पड़े।।

26. Don't use steps to climb to my Altar because that will expose your nakedness.'
