1. ऊज़ देश में अरयूब नाम एक पुरूष था; वह खरा और सीधा था और परमेश्वर का भय मानता और बुराई से परे रहता था।
1 थिस्सलुनीकियों 5:22

1. There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and turned away from evil.

2. उसके सात बेटे और तीन बेटियां उत्पन्न हुई।

2. And there were born unto him seven sons and three daughters.

3. फिर उसके सात हजार भेड़- बकरियां, तीन हजार ऊंट, पांच सौ जोड़ी बैल, और पांच सौ गदहियां, और बहुत ही दास- दासियां थीं; वरन उसके इतनी सम्पत्ति थी, कि पूरबियों में वह सब से बड़ा था।

3. His substance also was seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she-asses, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the children of the east.

4. उसके बेटे उपने अपने दिन पर एक दूसरे के घर में खाने- पीने को जाया करते थे; और अपनी तीनों बहिनों को अपने संग खाने- पीने के लिये बुलवा भेजते थे।

4. And his sons went and held a feast in the house of each one upon his day; and they sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them.

5. और जब जब जेवनार के दिन पूरे हो जाते, तब तब अरयूब उन्हें बुलवाकर पवित्रा करता, और बड़ी भोर उठकर उनकी गिनती के अनुसार होमबलि चढ़ाता था; क्योंकि अरयूब सोचता था, कि कदाचित् मेरे लड़कों ने पाप करके परमेश्वर को छोड़ दिया हो। इसी रीति अरयूब सदैव किया करता था।

5. And it was so, when the days of their feasting were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt-offerings according to the number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and renounced God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually.

6. एक दिन यहोवा परमेश्वर के पुत्रा उसके साम्हने उपस्थित हुए, और उनके बीच शैतान भी आया।

6. Now it came to pass on the day when the sons of God came to present themselves before Jehovah, that Satan also came among them.

7. यहोवा ने शैतान से पूछा, तू कहां से आता है? शैतान ने यहोवा को उत्तर दिया, कि पृथ्वी पर इधर- उधर घूमते- फिरते और डोलते- डालते आया हूँ।

7. And Jehovah said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered Jehovah, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.

8. यहोवा ने शैतान से पूछा, क्या तू ने मेरे दास अरयूब पर ध्यान दिया है? क्योंकि उसके तुल्य खरा और सीधा और मेरा भय माननेवाला और बुराई से दूर रहनेवाला मनुष्य और कोई नहीं है।

8. And Jehovah said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job? for there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and turneth away from evil.

9. शैतान ने यहोवा को उत्तर दिया, क्या अरयूब परमेश्वर का भय बिना लाभ के मानता है?
प्रकाशितवाक्य 12:10

9. Then Satan answered Jehovah, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought?

10. क्या तू ने उसकी, और उसके घर की, और जो कुछ उसका है उसके चारों ओर बाड़ा नहीं बान्धा? तू ने तो उसके काम पर आशीष दी है, और उसकी सम्पत्ति देश भर में फैल गई है।

10. Hast not thou made a hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath, on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.

11. परन्तु अब अपना हाथ बढ़ाकर जो कुछ उसका है, उसे छू; तब वह तेरे मुंह पर तेरी निन्दा करेगा।

11. But put forth thy hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will renounce thee to thy face.

12. यहोवा ने शैतान से कहा, सुन, जो कुछ उसका है, वह सब तेरे हाथ में है; केवल उसके शरीर पर हाथ न लगाना। तब शैतान यहोवा के साम्हने से चला गया।

12. And Jehovah said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thy hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of Jehovah.

13. एक दिन अरयूब के बेटे- बेटियां बड़े भाई के घर में खाते और दाखमधु पी रहे थे;

13. And it fell on a day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house,

14. तब एक दूत अरयूब के पास आकर कहने लगा, हम तो बैलों से हल जोत रहे थे, और गदहियां उनके पास चर रही थी,

14. that there came a messenger unto Job, and said, The oxen were plowing, and the asses feeding beside them;

15. कि शबा के लोग धावा करके उनको ले गए, और तलवार से तेरे सेवकों को मार डाला; और मैं ही अकेला बचकर तुझे समाचार देने को आया हूँ।

15. and the Sabeans fell [upon them], and took them away: yea, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

16. वह अभी यह कह ही रहा था कि दूसरा भी आकर कहने लगा, कि परमेश्वर की आग आकाश से गिरी और उस से भेड़- बकरियां और सेवक जलकर भस्म हो गए; और मैं ही अकेला बचकर तुझे समाचार देने को आया हूँ।

16. While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The fire of God is fallen from heaven, and hath burned up the sheep and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

17. वह अभी यह कह ही रहा था, कि एक और भी आकर कहने लगा, कि कसदी लोग तीन गोल बान्धकर ऊंटों पर धावा करके उन्हें ले गए, और तलवार से तेरे सेवकों को मार डाला; और मैं ही अकेला बचकर तुझे समाचार देने को आया हूँ।

17. While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The Chaldeans made three bands, and fell upon the camels, and have taken them away, yea, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

18. वह अभी यह कह ही रहा था, कि एक और भी आकर कहने लगा, तेरे बेट- बेटियां बड़े भाई के घर में खाते और दाखमधु पीते थे,

18. While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, Thy sons and thy daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house;

19. कि जंगल की ओर से बड़ी प्रचणड वायु चली, और घर के चारों कोनों को ऐसा झोंका मारा, कि वह जवानों पर गिर पड़ा और वे मर गए; और मैं ही अकेला बचकर तुझे समाचार देने को आया हूँ।

19. and, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

20. तब अरयूब उठा, और बागा फाड़, सिर मुंड़ाकर भूमि पर गिरा और दणडवत् करके कहा,

20. Then Job arose, and rent his robe, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped;

21. मैं अपनी मां के पेट से नंगा निकला और वहीं नंगा लौट जाऊंगा; यहोवा ने दिया और यहोवा ही ने लिया; यहोवा का नाम धन्य है।
1 तीमुथियुस 6:7

21. and he said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: Jehovah gave, and Jehovah hath taken away; blessed be the name of Jehovah.

22. इन सब बातों में भी अरयूब ने न तो पाप किया, और न परमेश्वर पर मूर्खता से दोष लगाया।

22. In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly.
