1. अहज्याह के पुत्रा यहूदा के राजा योआश के तेईसवें वर्ष में यंहू का मुत्रा यहोआहाज शोमरोन में इस्राएल पर राज्य करने लगा, और सत्राह वर्ष तक राज्य करता रहा।

1. In the twenty-third year of Joash son of Ahaziah, king of Judah, Jehoahaz son of Jehu became king of Israel in Samaria. He reigned for seventeen years.

2. और उस ने वह किया, जो यहोवा की दृष्टि में बुरा था अर्थात् नबात के पुत्रा यारोबाम जिस ने इस्राएल से पाप कराया था, उसके पापों के अनुसार वह करता रहा, और उनको छोड़ न दिया।

2. He did what is displeasing to Yahweh and copied the sin into which Jeroboam son of Nebat had led Israel; he did not give it up.

3. इसलिये यहोवा का क्रोध इस्राएलियों के विरूद्ध भड़क उठा, और उस ने उनको अराम के राजा हजाएल, और उसके पुत्रा बेन्हदद के अधीन कर दिया।

3. This aroused Yahweh's anger against the Israelites, and he delivered them without respite into the power of Hazael king of Aram and of Ben-Hadad son of Hazael.

4. तब यहोआहाज यहोवा के साम्हने गिड़गिड़ाया और यहोवा ने उसकी सुन ली; क्योंकि उस ने इस्राएल पर अन्धेर देखा कि अराम का राजा उन पर कैसा अन्धेर करता था।

4. Jehoahaz, however, tried to placate Yahweh, and Yahweh heard him, for he had seen the oppression which the king of Aram was inflicting on Israel.

5. इसलिये यहोवा ने इस्राएल को एक छुड़ानेवाला दिया और वे अराम के वश से छूट गए; और इस्राएली अगले दिनों की नाई फिर अपने अपने डेरे में रहने लगे।

5. Yahweh gave Israel a saviour who freed them from the grip of Aram, and the Israelites lived in their tents as in the past.

6. तौभी वे ऐसे पापों से न फिरे, जैसे यारोबाम के घराने ने किया, और जिनके अनुसार उस ने इस्राएल से पाप कराए थे : परन्तु उन में चलते रहे, और शोमरोन में अशेरा भी खड़ी रही।

6. But they did not give up the sin into which Jeroboam had led Israel; they persisted in it, and even the sacred pole stayed standing in Samaria.

7. अराम के राजा ने तो यहोआहाज की सेना में से केवल पचास सवार, दस रथ, और दस हजार प्यादे छोड़ दिए थे; क्योंकि उस ने उनको नाश किया, और रौंद रौंदकर के धूलि में मिला दिया था।

7. Of Jehoahaz's army Yahweh left only fifty horsemen, ten chariots and ten thousand foot soldiers. The king of Aram had destroyed them, making them like dust trampled under foot.

8. यहोआहाज के और सब काम जो उस ने किए, और उसकी वीरता, यह सब क्या इस्राएल के राजाओं के इतिहास की पुस्तक में नहीं लिखा है?

8. The rest of the history of Jehoahaz, his entire career, his prowess, is this not recorded in the Book of the Annals of the Kings of Israel?

9. निदान यहोआहाज अपने पुरखाओं के संग सो गया और शोमरोन में उसे मिद्दी दी बई; और उसका पुत्रा योआश उसके स्थान पर राज्य करने लगा।

9. Then Jehoahaz fell asleep with his ancestors, and was buried in Samaria; his son Joash succeeded him.

10. यहूदा के राजा योआश के राज्य के सैंतीसवें वर्ष में यहोआहाज का पुत्रा यहोआश शोमरोन में इस्राएल पर राज्य करते लगा, और सोलह वर्ष तक राज्य करता रहा।

10. In the thirty-seventh year of Joash king of Judah, Jehoash son of Jehoahaz, became king of Israel in Samaria. He reigned for sixteen years.

11. और उस ने वह किया जो यहोवा की दृष्टि में बुरा था, अर्थात् नबात का पुत्रा यारोबाम जिस ने इस्राएल से पाप कराया था, उसके पापो के अनुसार वह करता रहा, और उन से अलग न हुआ।

11. He did what is displeasing to Yahweh, he did not give up the sin into which Jeroboam son of Nebat had led Israel; he persisted in it.

12. योआश के और सब काम जो उस ने किए, और ख्सि वीरता से वह सहूदा के राजा अमस्याह से लड़ा, यह सब क्या इस्राएल के राजाओं के इतिहास की पुस्तक में नहीं लिखा है?

12. The rest of the history of Joash, his entire career, his prowess, how he waged war on Amaziah king of Judah, is this not recorded in the Book of the Annals of the Kings of Israel?

13. निदान योआश अपने पुरखाओं के संग सो गया और यारोबाम उसकी गद्दी पर विराजमान हुआ; और योआश को शोमरोन में इय्राएल के राजाओं के बीच मिट्टी दी गई।

13. Then Joash fell asleep with his ancestors, and Jeroboam ascended his throne. Joash was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel.

14. और एलीशा को वह रोग लग गया जिस से वह मरने पर था, तब इस्राएल का राजा योआश उसके पास गया, और उसके ऊपर रोकर कहने लगा, हाय मेरे पिता ! हाय मेरे पिता ! हाय इस्राएल के रथ और सवारो ! एलीश ने उस से कहा, धनुष और तीर ले आ।

14. When Elisha had fallen ill of the illness of which he was to die, Joash king of Israel went down to him and shedding tears over him said, 'Father! Father! Chariot of Israel and its chargers!'

15. वह उसके पास धनुष और तीर ले आया।

15. Elisha said to him, 'Bring bow and arrows,' and he sent for a bow and arrows.

16. तब उस ने इस्राएल के राजा से कहा, धनुष पर अपना हाथ लगा। जब उस ने अपना हाथ लगाया, तब एलीशा ने अपने हाथ राजा के हाथों पर धर दिए।

16. Then Elisha said to the king, 'Draw the bow,' and he drew it. Elisha put his hands over the hands of the king,

17. तब उस ने कहा, पूर्व की खिड़की खोल। जब उस ने उसे खोल दिया, तब एलीशा ने कहा, तीर छोड़ दे; उस ने तीर छोड़ा। और एलीशा ने कहा, यह तीर यहोवा की ओर से छुटकारे अर्थात् अराम से छुटकारे का चिहृ है, इसलिये तू अपेक में अराम को यहां तक मार लेगा कि उनका अन्त कर डालेगा।

17. then he said, 'Open the window towards the east,' and he opened it. Then Elisha said, 'Shoot!' And he shot. Elisha said, 'Arrow of victory over Aram! You will defeat Aram at Aphek-completely.'

18. फिर उस ने कहा, तीरों को ले; और जब उस ने उन्हें लिया, तब उस ने इस्राएल के राजा से कहा, भूमि पर मार; तब वह तीन बार मार कर ठहर गया।

18. Elisha said, 'Take the arrows,' and he took them. Then he said to the king, 'Strike the ground,' and he struck it three times, then stopped.

19. और परमेश्वर के जन ने उस पर क्रोधित होकर कहा, तुझे तो पांच छे बार मारना चाहिये था। ऐसा करते से तो तू अराम को यहां तक मारता कि उनका अन्त कर डालता, परन्तु अब तू उन्हें तीन ही बार मारेगा।

19. At this the man of God grew angry with him. 'You should have struck half a dozen times,' he said, 'and you would have beaten Aram completely; now you will beat Aram only three times.'

20. तब एलीशा मर गया, और उसे मिट्टी दी गई। एक वर्ष के बाद मोआब के दल देश में आए।

20. Elisha died and was buried. Bands of Moabites were making incursions into the country every year.

21. लोग किसी मनुष्य को मिट्ठी दे रहे थे, कि एक दल उन्हें देख पड़ा तब उन्हों ने उस लोथ को एलीशा की कबर में डाल दिया, और एलीशा की हडि्ढयों के छूते ही वह जी उठा, और अपने पावों के बल खड़ा हो गया।

21. Some people happened to be carrying a man out for burial; at the sight of one of these bands, they flung the man into the tomb of Elisha and made off. The man had no sooner touched the bones of Elisha than he came to life and stood up on his feet.

22. यहोआहाज के जीवन भर अराम का राजा हजाएल इस्राएल पर अन्धेर ही करता रहा।

22. Hazael king of Aram had oppressed the Israelites throughout the lifetime of Jehoahaz,

23. परन्तु यहोवा ने उन पर अनुग्रह किया, और उन पर दया करके अपनी उस वाचा के कारण जो उस ने इब्राहीम, इसहाक और याकूब से बान्धी थी, उन पर कृपा दृष्टि की, और न तो उन्हें नाश किया, और न अपने साम्हने से निकाल दिया।

23. but Yahweh was kind and took pity on them. Because of the covenant which he had made with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, he relented towards them; he had no wish to destroy them, he did not cast them out of his presence.

24. तब अराम का राजा हजाएल मर गया, और उसका पुत्रा बेन्हदद उसके स्थान पर राजा बन गया।

24. Hazael king of Aram died, and his son Ben-Hadad succeeded him.

25. और यहोआहाज के पुत्रा यहोआश ने हजाएल के पुत्रा बेन्हदद के हाथ से वे नगर फिर ले लिए, जिन्हें उस ने युठ्ठ करके उसके पिता यहोआहाज के हाथ से छीन लिया था। योआश ने उसको तीन बार जीतकर इस्राएल के नगर फिर ले लिए।

25. From Ben-Hadad son of Hazael, Jehoash son of Jehoahaz recaptured the towns which Hazael had seized from his father Jehoahaz by force of arms. Joash defeated him three times and recovered the Israelite towns.
