1. इसके बाद तामार नाम एक सुन्दरी जो दाऊद के पुत्रा अबशालोम की बहिन थी, उस पर दाऊद का पुत्रा अम्नोन मोहित हुआ।

1. And it came to pass after this, that Absalom the son of David had a fair sister, whose name [was] Tamar; and Amnon the son of David loved her.

2. और अम्नोन अपनी बहिन तामार के कारण ऐसा विकल हो गया कि बीमार पड़ गया; क्योंकि वह कुमारी थी, और उसके साथ कुछ करना अम्नोन को कठिन जान पड़ता था।

2. And Amnon was so vexed, that he fell sick for his sister Tamar; for she [was] a virgin; and Amnon thought it hard for him to do any thing to her.

3. अम्नोन के योनादाब नाम एक मित्रा था, जो दाऊद के भाई शिमा का बेटा था; और वह बड़ा चतुर था।

3. But Amnon had a friend, whose name [was] Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David's brother: and Jonadab [was] a very subtil man.

4. और उस ने अम्नोन से कहा, हे राजकुमार, क्या कारण है कि तू प्रति दिन ऐसा दुबला होता जाता है क्या तू मुझे न बताएगा? अम्नोन ने उस से कहा, मैं तो अपने भाई अबशालोम की बहिन तामार पर मोहित हूं।

4. And he said to him, Why [art] thou, [being] the king's son, pining from day to day? wilt thou not tell me? And Amnon said to him, I love Tamar, my brother Absalom's sister.

5. योनादाब ने उस से कहा, अपने पलंग पर लेटकर बीमार बन जा; और जब तेरा पिता तुझे देखने को आए, तब उस से कहना, मेरी बहिन तामार आकर मुझे रोटी खिलाए, और भोजन को मेरे साम्हने बनाए, कि मैं उसको देखकर उसके हाथ से खाऊं।

5. And Jonadab said to him, Lay thee down on thy bed, and pretend that thou art sick: and when thy father cometh to see thee, say to him, I pray thee, let my sister Tamar come, and give me food, and prepare the food in my sight, that I may see [it], and eat [it] at her hand.

6. और अम्नोन लेटकर बीमार बना; और जब राजा उसे देखने आया, तब अम्नोन ने राजा से कहा, मेरी बहिन तामार आकर मेरे देखते दो पूरी बनाए, कि मैं उसके हाथ से खाऊं।

6. So Amnon lay down, and pretended that he was sick: and when the king came to see him, Amnon said to the king, I pray thee, let Tamar my sister come, and make for me a couple of cakes in my sight, that I may eat at her hand.

7. और दाऊद ने अपने घर तामार के पास यह कहला भेजा, कि अपने भाई अम्नोन के घर जाकर उसके लिये भोजन बना।

7. Then David sent home to Tamar, saying, Go now to thy brother Amnon's house, and prepare a meal for him.

8. तब तामार अपने भाई अम्नोन के घर गई, और वह पड़ा हुआ था। तब उस ने आटा लेकर गूंधा, और उसके देखते पूरियां। पकाई।

8. So Tamar went to her brother Amnon's house; and he was laid down. And she took flour, and kneaded [it], and made cakes in his sight, and baked the cakes.

9. तब उस ने थाल लेकर उनको उसके लिये परोसा, परन्तु उस ने खाने से इनकार किया। तब अम्नोन ने कहा, मेरे आस पास से सब लोगों को निकाल दो, तब सब लोग उसके पास से निकल गए।

9. And she took a pan, and poured [them] out before him; but he refused to eat. And Amnon said, Send out all men from me. And they went out every man from him.

10. तब अम्नोन ने तामार से कहा, भोजत को कोठरी में ले आ, कि मैं तेरे हाथ से खाऊं। तो तामार अपनी बनाई हुई पूरियों को उठाकर अपने भाई अम्नोन के पास कोठरी में ले गई।

10. And Amnon said to Tamar, Bring the food into the chamber, that I may eat from thy hand. And Tamar took the cakes which she had made, and brought [them] into the chamber to Amnon her brother.

11. जब वह उनको उसके खाने के लिये निकट ले गई, तब उस ने उसे पकड़कर कहा, हे मेरी बहिन, आ, मुझ से मिल।

11. And when she had brought [them] to him to eat, he took hold of her, and said to her, Come lie with me, my sister.

12. उस ने कहा, हे मेरे भाई, ऐसा नहीं, मुझे भ्रष्ट न कर; क्योंकि इस्राएल में ऐसा काम होना नहीं चाहिये; ऐसी मूढ़ता का काम न कर।

12. And she answered him, Nay, my brother, do not force me; for no such thing ought to be done in Israel: do not thou this folly.

13. और फिर मैं अपनी नामधराई लिये हुए कहां जाऊंगी? और तू इस्राएलियों में एक मूढ़ गिना जाएगा। तू राजा से बातचीत कर, वह मुझ को तुझे ब्याह देने के लिये मना न करेगा।

13. And I, where shall I cause my shame to go? and as for thee, thou shalt be as one of the fools in Israel. Now therefore, I pray thee, speak to the king; for he will not withhold me from thee.

14. परन्तु उस ने उसकी न सुनी; और उस से बलवान होने के कारण उसके साथ कुकर्म करके उसे भ्रष्ट किया।

14. However he would not hearken to her voice: but, being stronger than she, forced her, and lay with her.

15. तब अम्नोन उस से अत्यन्त बैर रखने लगा; यहां तक कि यह बैर उसके पहिले मोह से बढ़कर हुआ। तब अम्नोन ने उस से कहा, उठकर चली जा।

15. Then Amnon hated her exceedingly; so that the hatred with which he hated her [was] greater than the love with which he had loved her. And Amnon said to her, Arise, be gone.

16. उस ने कहा, ऐसा नहीं, क्योंकि यह बढ़ा उपद्रव, अर्थात् मुझे निकाल देना उस पहिले से बढ़कर है जो तू ने मुझ से किया है। परन्तु उस ने उसकी न सुनी।

16. And she said to him, [There is] no cause: this evil in sending me away [is] greater than the other that thou didst to me. But he would not hearken to her.

17. तब उस ने अपने टहलुए जवान को बुलाकर कहा, इस स्त्री को मेरे पास से बाहर निकाल दे, और उसके पीछे किवाड़ में चिटकनी लगा दे।

17. Then he called his servant that ministered to him, and said, Put now this [woman] out from me, and bolt the door after her.

18. वह तो रंगबिरंगी कुत पहिने थी; क्योंकि जो राजकुमारियां कुंवारी रहती थीं वे ऐसे ही वस्त्रा पहिनती थीं। सो अम्नोन के टहलुए ने उसे बाहर निकालकर उसके पीछे किवाड़ में चिटकनी लगा दी।

18. And [she had] a garment of [many] colours upon her: for with such robes were the king's daughters [that were] virgins apparelled. Then his servant brought her out, and bolted the door after her.

19. तब तामार ने अपने सिर पर राख डाली, और अपनी रंगबिरंगी कुत को फाढ़ डाला; और सिर पर हाथ रखे चिल्लाती हुई चली गई।

19. And Tamar put ashes on her head, and tore her garment of [many] colours that [was] on her, and laid her hand on her head, and went on crying.

20. उसके भाई अबशालोम ने उस से पूछा, क्या तेरा भाई अम्नोन तेरे साथ रहा है? परन्तु अब, हे मेरी बहिन, चुप रह, वह तो तेरा भाई है; इस बात की चिन्ता न कर। तब तामार अपने भाई अबशालोम के घर में मन मारे बैठी रही।

20. And Absalom her brother said to her, Hath Amnon thy brother been with thee? but hold now thy peace, my sister: he [is] thy brother; regard not this thing. So Tamar remained desolate in her brother Absalom's house.

21. जब ये सब बातें दाऊद राजा के कान में पडीं, तब वह बहुत झुंझला उठा।

21. But when king David heard of all these things, he was very angry.

22. और अबशालोम ने अम्नोन से भला- बुरा कुछ न कहा, क्योंकि अम्नोन ने उसकी बहिन तामार को भ्रष्ट किया था, इस कारण अबशालोम उस से घृणा रखता था।

22. And Absalom spoke to his brother Amnon neither good nor bad: for Absalom hated Amnon, because he had forced his sister Tamar.

23. दो पर्ष के बाद अबशालोम ने एप्रैम के निकट के बाल्हासोर में अपनी भेड़ोंका ऊन कतरवाया और अबशालोम ने सब राजकुमारों को नेवता दिया।

23. And it came to pass after two full years, that Absalom had sheepshearers in Baalhazor, which [is] beside Ephraim: and Absalom invited all the king's sons.

24. वह राजा के पास जाकर कहनलगा, बिनती यह है, कि तेरे दास की भेड़ों का ऊन कतरा जाता है, इसलिये राजा अपने कर्मचारियो समेत अपने दास के संग चले।

24. And Absalom came to the king, and said, Behold now, thy servant hath sheepshearers; let the king, I beseech thee, and his servants go with thy servant.

25. राजा ने अबशालोम से कहा, हे मेरे बेटे, ऐसा नहीं; हम सब न चलेंगे, ऐसा न हो कि तुझे अधिक कष्ट हो। तब अबशालोम ने उसे बिनती करके दबाया, परन्तु उस ने जाने से इनकार किया, तौभी उसे आशीर्वाद दिया।

25. And the king said to Absalom, Nay, my son, let us not all now go, lest we be burdensome to thee. And he pressed him: yet he would not go, but blessed him.

26. तब अबशालोम ने कहा, यदि तू नहीं तो मेरे भाई अम्नोन को हमारे संग जाने दे। राजा ने उस से पूछा, वह तेरे संग क्यों चले?

26. Then said Absalom, If not, I pray thee, let my brother Amnon go with us. And the king said to him, Why should he go with thee?

27. परन्तु अबशालोम ने उसे ऐसा दबाया कि उस ने अम्नोन और सब राजकुमारों को उसके साथ जाने दिया।

27. But Absalom pressed him, that he should let Amnon and all the king's sons go with him.

28. औा अबशालोम ने अपने सेवको को आज्ञा दी, कि सावधान रहो और जब अम्नोन दाखमधु पीकर नशे में आ जाए, और मैं तुम से कहूं, अम्नोन को मार डालना। क्या इस आज्ञा का देनेवाला मैं नहीं हूं? हियाव बान्धकर पुरूषार्थ करना।

28. Now Absalom had commanded his servants, saying, Mark ye now when Amnon's heart is merry with wine, and when I say to you, Smite Amnon; then kill him, fear not: have I not commanded you? be courageous, and be valiant.

29. तो अबशालोम के सेवकों ने अम्नोन के साथ अबशालोम की आज्ञा के अनुसार किया। तब सब राजकुमार उठ खड़े हुए, और अपने अपने खच्चर पर चढ़कर भाग गए।

29. And the servants of Absalom did to Amnon as Absalom had commanded. Then all the king's sons arose, and every man rode upon his mule, and fled.

30. वे मार्ग ही में थे, कि दाऊद को यह समाचार मिला कि अबशालोम ने सब राजकुमारों को मार डाला, और उन में से एक भी नहीं बचा।

30. And it came to pass, while they were in the way, that the report came to David, saying, Absalom hath slain all the king's sons, and there is not one of them left.

31. तब दाऊद ने उठकर अपने वस्त्रा फाड़े, और भूमि पर गिर पड़ा, और उसके सब कर्मचारी वस्त्रा फाड़े हुए उसके पास खड़े रहे।

31. Then the king arose, and tore his garments, and lay on the earth; and all his servants stood by with their clothes torn.

32. तब दाऊद के भाई शिमा के पुत्रा यानादाब ने कहा, मेरा प्रभु यह न समझे कि सब जवान, अर्थात् राजकुमार मार डाले गए हैं, केवल अम्नोन मारा गया है; क्योंकि जिस दिन उस ने अबशालोम की बहिन तामार को भ्रष्ट किया, उसी दिन से अबशालोम की आज्ञा से ऐसी ही बात ठनी थी।

32. And Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David's brother, answered and said, Let not my lord suppose [that] they have slain all the young men the king's sons; for Amnon only is dead: for by the appointment of Absalom this hath been determined from the day that he forced his sister Tamar.

33. इसलिये अब मेरा प्रभु राजा अपने मन में यह समझकर कि सब राजकुमार मर गए उदास न हो; क्योंकि केवल अम्नोन ही मर गया है।

33. Now therefore let not my lord the king take the thing to his heart, to think that all the king's sons are dead: for Amnon only is dead.

34. इतने में अबशालोम भाग गया। और जो जवान पहरा देता थ उस ने आंखें उठाकर देखा, कि पीछे की ओर से पहाड़ के पास के मार्ग से बहुत लोग चले आ रहे हैं।

34. But Absalom fled. And the young man that kept the watch lifted up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came many people by the way of the hill side behind him.

35. तब योनादाब ने राजा से कहा, देख, राजकुमार तो आ गए हैं; जैसा तेरे दास ने कहा था वैसा ही हुआ।

35. And Jonadab said to the king, Behold, the king's sons come: as thy servant said, so it is.

36. वह कह ही चुका था, कि राजकुमार पहुंच गए, और चिल्ला चिल्लाकर रोने लगे; और राजा भी अपने सब कर्मचारियों समेत बिलख बिलख कर रोने लगा।

36. And it came to pass, as soon as he had finished speaking, that, behold, the king's sons came, and lifted up their voice and wept: and the king also and all his servants wept exceedingly.

37. अबशालोम तो भागकर गशूर के राजा अम्मीहूर के पुत्रा तल्मै के पास गया। और दाऊद अपने पुत्रा के लिये दिन दिन विलाप करता रहा।

37. But Absalom fled, and went to Talmai, the son of Ammihud, king of Geshur. And [David] mourned for his son every day.

38. जब अबशालोम भागकर गशूर को गया, तब पहां तीन पर्ष तक रहा।

38. So Absalom fled, and went to Geshur, and was there three years.

39. और दाऊद के मन में अबशालोम के पास जाने की बड़ी लालसा रही; क्योंकि अम्नोन जो मर गया था, इस कारण उस ने उसके विषय में शान्ति पाई।

39. And [the soul of] king David longed to go forth to Absalom: for he was comforted concerning Amnon, seeing he was dead.
