1. और अकाल देश में और भी भयंकर होता गया।

1. Now the famine in the land grew more severe.

2. जब वह अन्न जो वे मि से ले आए थे समाप्त हो गया तब उनके पिता ने उन से कहा, फिर जाकर हमारे लिये थोड़ी सी भोजनवस्तु मोल ले आओ।

2. So when they had used up all the rations they had brought from Egypt, their father said to them, 'Go back and procure us a little more food.'

3. तब यहूदा ने उस से कहा, उस पुरूष ने हम को चितावनी देकर कहा, कि यदि तुम्हारा भाई तुम्हारे संग न आए, तो तुम मेरे सम्मुख न आने पाओगे।

3. But Judah replied: 'The man strictly warned us, 'You shall not appear in my presence unless your brother is with you.'

4. इसलिये यदि तू हमारे भाई को हमारे संग भेजे, तब तो हम जाकर तेरे लिये भोजनवस्तु मोल ले आएंगे;

4. If you are willing to let our brother go with us, we will go down to procure food for you.

5. परन्तु यदि तू उसको न भेजे, तो हम न जाएंगे : क्योंकि उस पुरूष ने हम से कहा, कि यदि तुम्हारा भाई तुम्हारे संग न हो, तो तुम मेरे सम्मुख न आने पाओगे।

5. But if you are not willing, we will not go down, because the man told us, 'You shall not appear in my presence unless your brother is with you.''

6. तब इस्राएल ने कहा, तुम ने उस पुरूष को यह बताकर कि हमारा एक और भाई है, क्यों मुझ से बुरा बर्ताव किया ?

6. Israel demanded, 'Why did you bring this trouble on me by telling the man that you had another brother?'

7. उन्हों ने कहा, जब उस पुरूष ने हमारी और हमारे कुटुम्बियों की दशा को इस रीति पूछा, कि क्या तुम्हारा पिता अब तक जीवित है? क्या तुम्हारे कोई और भाई भी है ? तब हम ने इन प्रश्नों के अनुसार उस से वर्णन किया; फिर हम क्या जानते थे कि वह कहेगा, कि अपने भाई को यहां ले आओ।

7. They answered: 'The man kept asking about ourselves and our family: 'Is your father still living? Do you have another brother?' We had to answer his questions. How could we know that he would say, 'Bring your brother down here'?'

8. फिर यहूदा ने अपने पिता इस्राएल से कहा, उस लड़के को मेरे संग भेज दे, कि हम चले जाएं; इस से हम, और तू, और हमारे बालबच्चे मरने न पाएंगे, वरन जीवित रहेंगे।

8. Then Judah urged his father Israel: 'Let the boy go with me, that we may be off and on our way if you and we and our children are to keep from starving to death.

9. मैं उसका जामिन होता हूं; मेरे ही हाथ से तू उसको फेर लेना: यदि मैं उसको तेरे पास पहुंचाकर साम्हने न खड़ाकर दूं, तब तो मैं सदा के लिये तेरा अपराधी ठहरूंगा।

9. I myself will stand surety for him. You can hold me responsible for him. If I fail to bring him back, to set him in your presence, you can hold it against me forever.

10. यदि हम लोग विलम्ब न करते, तो अब तब दूसरी बार लौट आते।

10. Had we not dilly-dallied, we could have been there and back twice by now!'

11. तब उनके पिता इस्राएल ने उन से कहा, यदि सचमुच ऐसी ही बात है, तो यह करो; इस देश की उत्तम उत्तम वस्तुओं में से कुछ कुछ अपने बोरों में उस पुरूष के लिये भेंट ले जाओ : जैसे थोड़ा सा बलसान, और थोड़ा सा मधु, और कुछ सुगन्ध द्रव्य, और गन्धरस, पिस्ते, और बादाम।

11. Their father Israel then told them: 'If it must be so, then do this: Put some of the land's best products in your baggage and take them down to the man as gifts: some balm and honey, gum and resin, and pistachios and almonds.

12. फिर अपने अपने साथ दूना रूपया ले जाओ; और जो रूपया तुम्हारे बोरों के मुंह पर रखकर फेर दिया गया था, उसको भी लेते जाओ; कदाचित् यह भूल से हुआ हो।

12. Also take extra money along, for you must return the amount that was put back in the mouths of your bags; it may have been a mistake.

13. और अपने भाई को भी संग लेकर उस पुरूष के पास फिर जाओ,

13. Take your brother, too, and be off on your way back to the man.

14. और सर्वशक्तिमान ईश्वर उस पुरूष को तुम पर दयालु करेगा, जिस से कि वह तुम्हारे दूसरे भाई को और बिन्यामीन को भी आने दे : और यदि मैं निर्वंश हुआ तो होने दो।

14. May God Almighty dispose the man to be merciful toward you, so that he may let your other brother go, as well as Benjamin. As for me, if I am to suffer bereavement, I shall suffer it.'

15. तब उन मनुष्यों ने वह भेंट, और दूना रूपया, और बिन्यामीन को भी संग लिया, और चल दिए और मि में पहुंचकर यूसुफ के साम्हने खड़े हुए।

15. So the men got the gifts, took double the amount of money with them, and, accompanied by Benjamin, were off on their way down to Egypt to present themselves to Joseph.

16. उनके साथ बिन्यामीन को देखकर यूसुफ ने अपने घर के अधिकारी से कहा, उन मनुष्यों को घर में पहुंचा दो, और पशु मारके भोजन तैयार करो; क्योंकि वे लोग दोपहर को मेरे संग भोजन करेंगे।

16. When Joseph saw Benjamin with them, he told his head steward, 'Take these men into the house, and have an animal slaughtered and prepared, for they are to dine with me at noon.'

17. तब वह अधिकारी पुरूष यूसुफ के कहने के अनुसार उन पुरूषों को यूसुफ के घर में ले गया।

17. Doing as Joseph had ordered, the steward conducted the men to Joseph's house.

18. जब वे यूसुफ के घर को पहुंचाए गए तब वे आपस में डरकर कहने लगे, कि जो रूपया पहिली बार हमारे बोरों में फेर दिया गया था, उसी के कारण हम भीतर पहुंचाए गए हैं; जिस से कि वह पुरूष हम पर टूट पड़े, और हमें वंश में करके अपने दास बनाए, और हमारे गदहों को भी छीन ले।

18. But on being led to his house, they became apprehensive. 'It must be,' they thought, 'on account of the money put back in our bags the first time, that we are taken inside; they want to use it as a pretext to attack us and take our donkeys and seize us as slaves.'

19. तब वे यूसुफ के घर के अधिकारी के निकट जाकर घर के द्वार पर इस प्रकार कहने लगे,

19. So they went up to Joseph's head steward and talked to him at the entrance of the house.

20. कि हे हमारे प्रभु, जब हम पहिली बार अन्न मोल लेने को आए थे,

20. 'If you please, sir,' they said, 'we came down here once before to procure food.

21. तब हम ने सराय में पहुंचकर अपने बोरों को खोला, तो क्या देखा, कि एक एक जन का पूरा पूरा रूपया उसके बोरे के मुंह में रखा है; इसलिये हम उसको अपने साथ फिर लेते आए हैं।

21. But when we arrived at a night's encampment and opened our bags, there was each man's money in the mouth of his bag-- our money in the full amount! We have now brought it back.

22. और दूसरा रूपया भी भोजनवस्तु मोल लेने के लिये लाए हैं; हम नहीं जानते कि हमारा रूपया हमारे बोरों में किस ने रख दिया था।

22. We have brought other money to procure food with. We do not know who put the first money in our bags.'

23. उस ने कहा, तुम्हारा कुशल हो, मत डरो: तुम्हारा परमेश्वर, जो तुम्हारे पिता का भी परमेश्वर है, उसी ने तुम को तुम्हारे बोरों में धन दिया होगा, तुम्हारा रूपया तो मुझ को मिल गया था: फिर उस ने शिमोन को निकालकर उनके संग कर दिया।

23. 'Be at ease,' he replied; 'you have no need to fear. Your God and the God of your father must have put treasures in your bags for you. As for your money, I received it.' With that, he led Simeon out to them.

24. तब उस जन ने उन मनुष्यों को यूसुफ के घर में ले जाकर जल दिया, तब उन्हों ने अपने पांवों को धोया; फिर उस ने उनके गदहों के लिये चारा दिया।

24. The steward then brought the men inside Joseph's house. He gave them water to bathe their feet, and got fodder for their donkeys.

25. तब यह सुनकर, कि आज हम को यहीं भोजन करना होगा, उन्हों ने यूसुफ के आने के समय तक, अर्थात् दोपहर तक, उस भेंट को इकट्ठा कर रखा।

25. Then they set out their gifts to await Joseph's arrival at noon, for they had heard that they were to dine there.

26. जब यूसुफ घर आया तब वे उस भेंट को , जो उनके हाथ में थी, उसके सम्मुख घर में ले गए, और भूमि पर गिरकर उसको दण्डवत् किया।

26. When Joseph came home, they presented him with the gifts they had brought inside, while they bowed down before him to the ground.

27. उस ने उनका कुशल पूछा, और कहा, क्या तुम्हारा बूढ़ा पिता, जिसकी तुम ने चर्चा की थी, कुशल से है ? क्या वह अब तक जीवित है ?

27. After inquiring how they were, he asked them, 'And how is your aged father, of whom you spoke? Is he still in good health?'

28. उन्हों ने कहा, हां तेरा दास हमारा पिता कुशल से है और अब तक जीवित है; तब उन्हों ने सिर झुकाकर फिर दण्डवत् किया।

28. 'Your servant our father is thriving and still in good health,' they said, as they bowed respectfully.

29. तब उस ने आंखे उठाकर और अपने सगे भाई बिन्यामीन को देखकर पूछा, क्या तुम्हारा वह छोटा भाई, जिसकी चर्चा तुम ने मुझ से की थी, यही है ? फिर उस ने कहा, हे मेरे पुत्रा, परमेश्वर तुझ पर अनुग्रह करे।

29. When Joseph's eye fell on his full brother Benjamin, he asked, 'Is this your youngest brother, of whom you told me?' Then he said to him, 'May God be gracious to you, my boy!'

30. तब अपने भाई के स्नेह से मन भर आने के कारण और यह सोचकर, कि मैं कहां जाकर रोऊं, यूसुफ फुर्ती से अपनी कोठरी में गया, और वहां रो पड़ा।

30. With that, Joseph had to hurry out, for he was so overcome with affection for his brother that he was on the verge of tears. He went into a private room and wept there.

31. फिर अपना मुंह धोकर निकल आया, और अपने को शांत कर कहा, भोजन परोसो।

31. After washing his face, he reappeared and, now in control of himself, gave the order, 'Serve the meal.'

32. तब उन्हों ने उसके लिये तो अलग, और भाइयों के लिये भी अलग, और जो मिद्दी उसके संग खाते थे, उनके लिये भी अलग, भोजन परोसा; इसलिये कि मिद्दी इब्रियों के साथ भोजन नहीं कर सकते, वरन मिद्दी ऐसा करना घृणा समझते थे।

32. It was served separately to him, to the brothers, and to the Egyptians who partook of his board. (Egyptians may not eat with Hebrews; that is abhorrent to them.)

33. सो यूसुफ के भाई उसके साम्हने, बड़े बड़े पहिले, और छोटे छोटे पीछे, अपनी अपनी अवस्था के अनुसार, क्रम से बैठाए गए: यह देख वे विस्मित् होकर एक दूसरे की ओर देखने लगे।

33. When they were seated by his directions according to their age, from the oldest to the youngest, they looked at one another in amazement;

34. तब यूसुफ अपने साम्हने से भोजन- वस्तुएं उठा उठाके उनके पास भेजने लगा, और बिन्यामीन को अपने भाइयों से पचगुणी अधिक भोजनवस्तु मिली। और उन्हों ने उसके संग मनमाना खाया पिया।

34. and as portions were brought to them from Joseph's table, Benjamin's portion was five times as large as anyone else's. So they drank freely and made merry with him.
