1. फिर यहोवा ने, मोआब के अराबा में, यरीहो के पास की यरदन नदी के तट पर मूसा से कहा,

1. And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, in the plains of Moab, by Jordan, [near] Jericho, saying,

2. इस्त्राएलियों को आज्ञा दे, कि तुम अपने अपने निज भाग की भूमि में से लेवियों को रहने के लिये नगर देना; और नगरों के चारों ओर की चराइयां भी उनको देना।

2. 'Command the sons of Israel, and they have given to the Levites of the inheritance of their possession cities to inhabit; also a suburb for the cities round about them ye do give to the Levites.

3. नगर तो उनके रहने के लिये, और चराइयां उनके गाय- बैल और भेड़- बकरी आदि, उनके सब पशुओं के लिये होंगी।

3. And the cities have been to them to inhabit, and their suburbs are for their cattle, and for their goods, and for all their beasts.

4. और नगरों की चराइयां, जिन्हें तुम लेवियों को दोगे, वह एक एक नगर की शहरपनाह से बाहर चारों ओर एक एक हजार हाथ तक की हों।

4. 'And the suburbs of the cities which ye give to the Levites [are], from the wall of the city and without, a thousand cubits round about.

5. और नगर के बाहर पूर्व, दक्खिन, पच्छिम, और उत्तर अलंग, दो दो हजार हाथ इस रीति से नापना कि नगर बीचोंबीच हो; लेवियों के एक एक नगर की चराई इतनी ही भूमि की हो।

5. And ye have measured from the outside of the city, the east quarter, two thousand by the cubit, and the south quarter, two thousand by the cubit, and the west quarter, two thousand by the cubit, and the north quarter, two thousand by the cubit; and the city [is] in the midst; this is to them the suburbs of the cities.

6. और जो नगर तुम लेवियों को दोगे उन में से छ: शरणनगर हों, जिन्हें तुम को खूनी के भागने के लिये ठहराना होगा, और उन से अधिक बयालीस नगर और भी देना।

6. 'And the cities which ye give to the Levites [are] the six cities of refuge, which ye give for the fleeing thither of the man-slayer, and besides them ye give forty and two cities;

7. जितने नगर तुम लेवियों को दोगे वे सब अड़तालीस हों, और उनके साथ चराइयां देना।

7. all the cities which ye give to the Levites [are] forty and eight cities, them and their suburbs.

8. और जो नगर तुम इस्त्राएलियों की निज भूमि में से दो, वे जिनके बहुत नगर हों उन से थोड़े लेकर देना; सब अपने अपने नगरों में से लेवियों को अपने ही अपने भाग के अनुसार दें।।

8. And the cities which ye give [are] of the possession of the sons of Israel, from the many ye multiply, and from the few ye diminish; each, according to his inheritance which they inherit, doth give of his cities to the Levites.'

9. फिर यहोवा ने मूसा से कहा,

9. And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,

10. इस्त्राएलियों से कह, कि जब तुम यरदन पार होकर कनान देश में पहुंचो,

10. 'Speak unto the sons of Israel, and thou hast said unto them, When ye are passing over the Jordan to the land of Canaan,

11. तक ऐसे नगर ठहराना जो तुम्हारे लिये शरणनगर हों, कि जो कोई किसी को भूल से मारके खूनी ठहरा हो वह वहां भाग जाए।

11. and have prepared to yourselves cities -- cities of refuge they are to you -- then fled thither hath a man-slayer, smiting a person unawares,

12. वे नगर तुम्हारे निमित्त पलटा लेनेवाले से शरण लेने के काम आएंगे, कि जब तक खूनी न्याय के लिये मण्डली के साम्हने खड़ा न हो तब तक वह न मार डाला जाए।

12. and the cities have been to you for a refuge from the redeemer, and the man-slayer doth not die till his standing before the company for judgment.

13. और शरण के जो नगर तुम दोगे वे छ: हों।

13. 'As to the cities which ye give -- six [are] cities of refuge to you;

14. तीन नगर तो यरदन के इस पार, और तीन कनान देश में देना; शरणनगर इतने ही रहें।

14. the three of the cities ye give beyond the Jordan, and the three of the cities ye give in the land of Canaan; cities of refuge they are.

15. ये छहों नगर इस्त्राएलियों के और उनके बीच रहनेवाले परदेशियों के लिये भी शरणस्थान ठहरें, कि जो कोई किसी को भूल से मार डाले वह वहीं भाग जाए।

15. To sons of Israel, and to a sojourner, and to a settler in their midst, are these six cities for a refuge, for the fleeing thither of any one smiting a person unawares.

16. परन्तु यदि कोई किसी को लोहे के किसी हथियार से ऐसा मारे कि वह मर जाए, तो वह खूनी ठहरेगा; और वह खूनी अवश्य मार डाला जाए।

16. 'And if with an instrument of iron he hath smitten him, and he dieth, he [is] a murderer: the murderer is certainly put to death.

17. और यदि कोई ऐसा पत्थर हाथ में लेकर, जिस से कोई मर सकता है, किसी को मारे, और वह मर जाए, तो वह भी खूनी ठहरेगा; और वह खूनी अवश्य मार डाला जाए।

17. 'And if with a stone [in] the hand, wherewith he dieth, he hath smitten him, and he dieth, he [is] a murderer: the murderer is certainly put to death.

18. वा कोई हाथ में ऐसी लकड़ी लेकर, जिस से कोई मर सकता है, किसी को मारे, और वह मर जाए, तो वह भी खूनी ठहरेगा; और वह खूनी अवश्य मार डाला जाए।

18. 'Or with a wooden instrument [in] the hand, wherewith he dieth, he hath smitten him, and he dieth, he [is] a murderer: the murderer is certainly put to death.

19. लोहू का पलटा लेनेवाला आप की उस खूनी को मार डाले; जब भी वह मिले तब ही वह उसे मार डाले।

19. 'The redeemer of blood himself doth put the murderer to death; in his coming against him he doth put him to death.

20. और यदि कोई किसी को बैर से ढकेल दे, वा घात लगाकर कुछ उस पर ऐसे फेंक दे कि वह मर जाए,

20. 'And if in hatred he thrust him through, or hath cast [anything] at him by lying in wait, and he dieth;

21. वा शत्रुता से उसको अपने हाथ से ऐसा मारे कि वह मर जाए, तो जिस ने मारा हो वह अवश्य मार डाला जाए; वह खूनी ठहरेगा; लोहू का पलटा लेनेवाला जब भी वह खूनी उसे मिल जाए तब ही उसको मार डाले।

21. or in enmity he hath smitten him with his hand, and he dieth; the smiter is certainly put to death; he [is] a murderer; the redeemer of blood doth put the murderer to death in his coming against him.

22. परन्तु यदि कोई किसी को बिना सोचे, और बिना शत्रुता रखे ढकेल दे, वा बिना घात लगाए उस पर कुछ फेंक दे,

22. 'And if, in an instant, without enmity, he hath thrust him through, or hath cast at him any instrument, without lying in wait;

23. वा ऐसा कोई पत्थर लेकर, जिस से कोई मर सकता है, दूसरे को बिना देखे उस पर फेंक दे, और वह मर जाए, परन्तु वह न उसका शत्रु हो, और न उसकी हानि का खोजी रहा हो;

23. or with any stone wherewith he dieth, without seeing, and causeth [it] to fall upon him, and he dieth, and he [is] not his enemy, nor seeking his evil;

24. तो मण्डली मारनेवाले और लोहू का पलटा लेनेवाले के बीच इन नियमों के अनुसार न्याय करे;

24. then have the company judged between the smiter and the redeemer of blood, by these judgments.

25. और मण्डली उस खूनी को लोहू के पलटा लेनेवाले के हाथ से बचाकर उस शरणनगर में जहां वह पहिले भाग गया हो लौटा दे, और जब तक पवित्रा तेल से अभिषेक किया हुआ महायाजक न मर जाए तब तक वह वहीं रहे।

25. 'And the company have delivered the man-slayer out of the hand of the redeemer of blood, and the company have caused him to turn back unto the city of his refuge, whither he hath fled, and he hath dwelt in it till the death of the chief priest, who hath been anointed with the holy oil.

26. परन्तु यदि वह खूनी उस शरणस्थान के सिवाने से जिस में वह भाग गया हो बाहर निकलकर और कहीं जाए,

26. 'And if the man-slayer at all go out [from] the border of the city of his refuge whither he fleeth,

27. और लोहू का पलटा लेनेवाला उसको शरणस्थान के सिवाने के बाहर कहीं पाकर मार डाले, तो वह लोहू बहाने का दोषी न ठहरे।

27. and the redeemer of blood hath found him at the outside of the border of the city of his refuge, and the redeemer of blood hath slain the man-slayer, blood is not for him;

28. क्योंकि खूनी को महायाजक की मृत्यु तक शरणस्थान में रहना चाहिये; और महायाजक के मरने के पश्चात् वह अपनी निज भूमि को लौट सकेगा।

28. for in the city of his refuge he doth dwell till the death of the chief priest; and after the death of the chief priest doth the man-slayer turn back unto the city of his possession.

29. तुम्हारी पीढ़ी पीढ़ी में तुम्हारे सब रहने के स्थानों में न्याय की यह विधि होगी।

29. 'And these things have been to you for a statute of judgment to your generations, in all your dwellings:

30. और जो कोई किसी मनुष्य को मार डाले वह साक्षियों के कहने पर मार डाला जाए, परन्तु एक ही साक्षी की साक्षी से कोई न मार डाला जाए।

30. whoso smiteth a person, by the mouth of witnesses doth [one] slay the murderer; and one witness doth not testify against a person -- to die.

31. और जो खूनी प्राणदण्ड के योग्य ठहरे उस से प्राणदण्ड के बदले में जुरमाना न लेना; वह अवश्य मार डाला जाए।

31. 'And ye take no atonement for the life of a murderer who [is] condemned -- to die, for he is certainly put to death;

32. और जो किसी शरणस्थान में भागा हो उसके लिये भी इस मतलब से जुरमाना न लेना, कि वह याजक के मरने से पहिले फिर अपने देश मे रहने को लौटने पाएं।

32. and ye take no atonement for him to flee unto the city of his refuge, to turn back to dwell in the land, until the death of the priest.

33. इसलिये जिस देश में तुम रहोगे उसको अशुद्ध न करना; खून से तो देश अशुद्ध हो जाता है, और जिस देश में जब खून किया जाए तब केवल खूनी के लोहू बहाने ही से उस देश का प्रायश्चित्त हो सकता है।

33. 'And ye profane not the land which ye [are] in, for blood profaneth the land; as to the land, it is not pardoned for blood which is shed in it except by the blood of him who sheddeth it;

34. जिस देश में तुम निवास करोगे उसके बीच मै रहूंगा, उसको अशुद्ध न करना; मैं यहोवा तो इस्त्राएलियों के बीच रहता हूं।।

34. and ye defile not the land in which ye are dwelling, in the midst of which I do tabernacle, for I Jehovah do tabernacle in the midst of the sons of Israel.'
