1. पलिश्ती इस्राएलियों से लड़े; और इस्राएली पलिश्तियों के साम्हने से भागे, और गिलबो नाम पहाड़ पर मारे गए।

1. And the Philistines have fought with Israel, and the men of Israel flee from the face of the Philistines, and fall wounded in mount Gilboa,

2. और पलिश्ती शाऊल और उसके पुत्रों के पीछे लगे रहे, और पलिश्तियों ने शाऊल के पुत्रा योनातान, अबीनादाब और मल्कीशू को मार डाला।

2. and the Philistines pursue after Saul, and after his sons, and the Philistines smite Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchi-Shua, sons of Saul.

3. और शाऊल के साथ धमासान युठ्ठ होता रहा और धनुर्धारियों ने उसे जा लिया, और वह उनके कारण रयाकुल हो गया।

3. And the battle [is] heavy on Saul, and those shooting with the bow find him, and he is wounded by those shooting,

4. तब शाऊल ने अपने हथियार ढोनेवाले से कहा, अपनी तलवार खींचकर मुझे झोंक दे, कहीं ऐसा न हो कि वे खतनारहित लोग आकर मेरी ठट्ठा करें, परन्तु उसके हथियार ढोनेवाले ने भयभीत होकर ऐसा करने से इनकार किया, तब शाऊल अपनी तलवार खड़ी करके उस पर गिर पड़ा।

4. and Saul saith unto the bearer of his weapons, 'Draw thy sword, and pierce me with it, lest these uncircumcised come -- and have abused me.' And the bearer of his weapons hath not been willing, for he feareth exceedingly, and Saul taketh the sword, and falleth upon it;

5. यह देखकर कि शाऊल मर गया है उसका हथियार ढोनेपसल भी अपनी तलवार पर आप गिरकर मर गया।

5. and the bearer of his weapons seeth that Saul [is] dead, and falleth, he also, on the sword, and dieth;

6. यों शाऊल और उसके तीनों पुत्रा, और उसके घराने के सब लोग एक संग मर गए।

6. and Saul dieth, and his three sons, and all his house -- together they died.

7. यह देखकर कि वे भाग गए, और शाऊल और उसके पुत्रा मर गए, उस तराई में रहनेवाले सब इस्राएली मनुष्य अपने अपने नगर को छोड़कर भाग गए; और पलिश्ती आकर उन में रहने लगे।

7. And all the men of Israel who [are] in the valley see that they have fled, and that Saul and his sons have died, and they forsake their cities and flee, and the Philistines come and dwell in them.

8. दूसरे दिन जब पलिश्ती मारे हुओं के माल को लूटने आए, तब उनको शाऊल और उसके पुत्रा गिलबो पहाड़ पर पड़े हुए मिले।

8. And it cometh to pass, on the morrow, that the Philistines come to strip the wounded, and find Saul and his sons fallen in mount Gilboa,

9. तब उन्हों ने उसके वस्त्रों को उतार उसका सिर और हथियार ले लिया और पलिश्तियों के देश के सब स्थानों में दूतों को इसलिये भेजा कि उनके देवताओं और साधारण लोगों में यह शुभ समाचार देते जाएं।

9. and strip him, and bear away his head, and his weapons, and send into the land of the Philistines round about to proclaim tidings [to] their idols and the people,

10. तब उन्हों ने उसके हथियार अपने देवालय में रखे, और उसकी खोपड़ी को दागोन के मन्दिर में लटका दिया।

10. and put his weapons in the house of their gods, and his skull they have fixed in the house of Dagon.

11. जब गिलाद के याबेश के सब लोगों ने सुना कि पलिश्तियों ने शाऊल से क्या क्या किया है।

11. And all Jabesh-Gilead hear of all that the Philistines have done to Saul,

12. तब सब शूरवीर चले और शाऊल और उसके पुत्रों की लोथें उठाकर याबेश में ले आए, और उनकी हडि्डयों को याबेश में एक बांज वृक्ष के तले गाड़ दिया और सात दिन तक अनशन किया।

12. and all the men of valour rise and bear away the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, and bring them in to Jabesh, and bury their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fast seven days.

13. यों शाऊल उस विश्वासघात के कारण मर गया, जो उस ने यहोवा से किया था; क्योंकि उस ने यहोवा का वचन टाल दिया था, फिर उस ने भूतसिध्दि करनेवाली से पूछकर सम्मति ली थी।

13. And Saul dieth because of his trespass that he trespassed against Jehovah, against the word of Jehovah that he kept not, and also for asking at a familiar spirit -- to inquire, --

14. उस ने यहोवा से न पूछा था, इसलिये यहोवा ने उसे मारकर राज्य को यिशै के पुत्रा दाऊद को दे दिया।

14. and he inquired not at Jehovah, and He putteth him to death, and turneth round the kingdom to David son of Jesse.
