1. जब उस सारी जाति के लोग यरदन के पार उतर चुके, तब यहोवा ने यहोशू से कहा,

1. And it came to pass when all the people were finished passing the Jordan, that the LORD spoke unto Joshua, saying,

2. प्रजा में से बारह पुरूष, अर्थात्गोत्रा पीछे एक एक पुरूष को चुनकर यह आज्ञा दे,

2. Take twelve men out of the people, out of each tribe a man,

3. कि तुम यरदन के बीच में, जहां याजकों ने पांव धरे थे वहां से बारह पत्थर उठाकर अपने साथ पाल ले चलो, और जहां आज की रात पड़ाव होगा वहीं उनको रख देना।

3. and command them, saying, Take from here of the midst of Jordan, out of the place where the priests' feet stood firm, twelve stones, and ye shall carry them over with you and leave them in the lodging place, where ye shall lodge this night.

4. तब यहोशू ने उन बारह पुरूषों को, जिन्हें उस ने इस्राएलियों के प्रत्येक गोत्रा में से छांटकर ठहरा रखा था,

4. Then Joshua called the twelve men, whom he had prepared of the sons of Israel, out of each tribe a man;

5. बुलवाकर कहा, तुम अपने परमेश्वर यहोवा के सन्दूक के आगे यरदन के बीच में जाकर इस्राएलियों के गोत्रों की गिनती के अनुसार एक एक पत्थर उठाकर अपने अपने कन्धे पर रखो,

5. and Joshua said unto them, Pass before the ark of the LORD your God into the midst of the Jordan and take ye up each one of you a stone upon his shoulder, according unto the number of the tribes of the sons of Israel,

6. जिस से यह तुम लोगों के बीच चिन्हानी ठहरे, और आगे को जब तुम्हारे बेटे यह पूछें, कि इन पत्थरों का क्या मतलब है?

6. that this may be a sign among you, [that] when your children ask [their fathers] in time to come, saying, What do these stones [mean] unto you?

7. तब तुम उन्हें उत्तर दो, कि यरदन का जल यहोवा की वाचा के सन्दूक के साम्हने से दो भाग हो गया था; क्योंकि जब वह यरदन पार आ रहा था, तब यरदन का जल दो भाग हो गया। सो वे पत्थर इस्राएल को सदा के लिये स्मरण दिलानेवाले ठहरेंगे।

7. Then ye shall answer them, That the waters of Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD; when it passed the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off; and these stones shall be for a memorial unto the sons of Israel for ever.

8. यहोशू की इस आज्ञा कें अनुसार इ एलियों ने किया, जैसा यहोवा ने यहोशू से कहा था वैसा ही उन्हों ने इस्राएलियों ने किया, जैसा यहोवा ने यहोशू से कहा था वैसा ही उन्हों ने इस्राएली गोत्रों की गिनती के अनुसार बारह पत्थर यरदन के बीच में से उठा लिए; और उनको अपने साथ ले जाकर पड़ाव में रख दिया।

8. And the sons of Israel did so as Joshua commanded and took up twelve stones out of the midst of the Jordan, as the LORD spoke unto Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Israel and carried them over with them unto the place where they lodged and laid them down there.

9. और यरदन के बीच जहां याजक वाचा के सन्दूक को उठाए हुए अपने पांव धरे थे वहां यहोशू ने बारह पत्थर खड़े कराए; वे आज तक वहीं पाए जाते हैं।

9. Joshua also set up twelve stones in the midst of the Jordan in the place where the feet of the priests who bore the ark of the covenant had stood; and they are there unto this day.

10. और याजक सन्दूक उठाए हुए उस समय तक यरदन के बीच खड़े रहे जब तक वे सब बातें पूरी न हो चुकीं, जिन्हें यहोवा ने यहोशू को लोगों से कहने की आज्ञा दी थी। तब सब लोग फुर्ती से पार उतर गए;

10. For the priests who bore the ark stood in the midst of the Jordan until everything was finished that the LORD commanded Joshua to speak unto the people, according to all that Moses had commanded Joshua; and the people made haste and passed.

11. और जब सब लोग पार उतर चुके, तब याजक और यहोवा का सन्दूक भी उनके देखते पार हुए।

11. And when all the people were finished passing, the ark of the LORD passed, and the priests, in the presence of the people.

12. और रूबेनी, गादी, और मनश्शे के आधे गोत्रा के लोग मूसा के कहने के अनुसार इस्राएलियों के आगे पांति बान्धे हुए पार गए;

12. And the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad and half the tribe of Manasseh passed armed before the sons of Israel, as Moses had said unto them.

13. अर्थात् कोई चालीस हजार पुरूष युद्ध के हथियार बान्धे हुए संग्राम करने के लिये यहोवा के साम्हने पार उतरकर यरीहो के पास के अराबा में पहुंचे।

13. About forty thousand [men] prepared for war passed over before the LORD unto battle, towards the plains of Jericho.

14. उस दिन यहोवा ने सब इस्राएलियोंके साम्हने यहोशू की महिमा बढ़ाई; और जैसे वे मूसा का भय मानते थे वैसे ही यहोशू का भी भय उसके जीवन भर मानते रहे।।

14. On that day the LORD magnified Joshua in the sight of all Israel; and they feared him as they had feared Moses, all the days of his life.

15. और यहोवा ने यहोशू से कहा,

15. And the LORD spoke unto Joshua, saying,

16. कि साक्षी का सन्दूक उठानेवाले याजकों को आज्ञा दे कि यरदन में से निकल आएं।

16. Command the priests that bear the ark of the testimony, that they come up out of the Jordan.

17. तो यहोशू ने याजकों को आज्ञा दी, कि यरदन में से निकल आओ।

17. Joshua, therefore, commanded the priests, saying, Come ye up out of the Jordan.

18. और ज्यों ही यहोवा की वाचा का सन्दूक उठानेवाले याजक यरदन के बीच में से निकल आए, और उनके पांव स्थल पर पड़े, त्यों ही यरदन का जल अपने स्थान पर आया, और पहिले की नाईं कड़ारो के ऊपर फिर बहने लगा।

18. And it came to pass, when the priests that bore the ark of the covenant of the LORD came up out of the midst of the Jordan [and] the soles of the priests' feet were lifted up unto the dry land, that the waters of the Jordan returned unto their place, flowing as before over all its banks.

19. पहिले महिने के दसवें दिन को प्रजा के लोगों ने यरदन में से निकलकर यरीहो के पूर्वी सिवाने पर गिलगाल में अपने डेरे डाले।

19. And the people came up out of the Jordan on the tenth [day] of the first month and camped in Gilgal, on the east side of Jericho.

20. और जो बारह पत्थर यरदन में से निकाले गए थे, उनको यहोशू ने गिलगाल में खड़े किए।

20. And Joshua raised up in Gilgal the twelve stones, which they took out of the Jordan.

21. तब उस ने इस्राएलियों से कहा, आगे को जब तुम्हारे लड़केबाले अपने अपने पिता से यह पूछें, कि इन पत्थरों का क्या मतलब है?

21. And he spoke unto the sons of Israel, saying, When your children shall ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What do these stones [mean] unto you?

22. तब तुम यह कहकर उनको बताना, कि इस्राएली यरदन के पार स्थल ही स्थल चले आए थे।

22. Then ye shall let your children know, saying, Israel came over this Jordan on dry land.

23. क्योंकि जैसे तुम्हारे परमेश्वर यहोवा ने लाल समुद्र को हमारे पार हो जाने तक हमारे साम्हने से हटाकर सुखा रखा था, वैसे ही उस ने यरदन का भी जल तुम्हारे पार हो जाने तक तुम्हारे साम्हने से हटाकर सुखा रखा;

23. For the LORD your God dried up the waters of the Jordan from before you until ye had passed, as the LORD your God did to the Red sea, which he dried up from before us until we had passed,

24. इसलिये कि पृथ्वी के सब देशों के लोग जान लें कि यहोवा का हाथ बलवन्त है; और तुम सर्वदा अपने परमेश्वर यहोवा का भय मानते रहो।।

24. that all the people of the earth might know the hand of the LORD, that it [is] mighty; that ye might fear the LORD your God all the days.:
