1. जब यीशु अपने बारह चेलों को आज्ञा दे चुका, तो वह उन के नगरों में उपदेश और प्रचार करने को वहां से चला गया।।

2. यूहन्ना ने बन्दीगृह में मसीह के कामों का समाचार सुनकर अपने चेलों को उस से यह पूछने भेजा।

2. But whanne Joon in boondis hadde herd the werkis of Crist, he sente tweyne of hise disciplis,

3. कि क्या आनेवाला तू ही है: या हम दूसरे की बाट जोहें?

3. and seide to him, `Art thou he that schal come, or we abiden another?

4. यीशु ने उत्तर दिया, कि जो कुछ तुम सुनते हो और देखते हो, वह सब जाकर यूहन्ना से कह दो।

4. And Jhesus answeride, and seide `to hem, Go ye, and telle ayen to Joon tho thingis that ye han herd and seyn.

5. कि अन्धे देखते हैं और लंगड़े चलते फिरते हैं; कोढ़ी शुद्ध किए जाते हैं और बहिरे सुनते हैं, मुर्दे जिलाए जाते हैं; और कंगालों को सुसमाचार सुनाया जाता है।

7. जब वे वहां से चल दिए, तो यीशु यूहन्ना के विषय में लोगों से कहने लगा; तुम जंगल में क्या देखते गए थे? क्या हवा से हिलते हुए सरकण्डे को?

7. And whanne thei weren goon awei, Jhesus bigan to seie of Joon to the puple, What thing wenten ye out in to desert to se? a reed wawed with the wynd?

8. फिर तुम क्या देखने गए थे? देखो, जो कोमल वस्त्रा पहिनते हैं, वे राजभवनों में रहते हैं।

8. Or what thing wenten ye out to see? a man clothid with softe clothis? Lo! thei that ben clothid with softe clothis ben in the housis of kyngis.

9. तो फिर क्यों गए थे? क्या किसी भविष्यद्वक्ता को देखने को? हां; मैं तुम से कहता हूं, बरन भविष्यद्वक्ता से भी बड़े को।

9. But what thing wenten ye out to se? a prophete? Yhe, Y seie to you, and more than a prophete.

10. यह वही है, जिस के विषय में लिखा है, कि देख; मैं अपने दूत को तेरे आगे भेजता हूं, जो तेरे आगे तेरा मार्ग तैयार करेगा।

11. मैं तुम से सच कहता हूं, कि जो स्त्रियों से जन्मे हैं, उन में से यूहन्ना बपतिस्मा देनेवालों से कोई बड़ा नहीं हुआ; पर जो स्वर्ग के राज्य में छोटे से छोटा है वह उस से बड़ा है।

12. यूहन्ना बपतिस्मा देनेवाले के दिनों से अब तक स्वर्ग के राज्य पर जोर होता रहा है, और बलवाल उसे छीन लेते हैं।

12. And fro the daies of Joon Baptist til now the kyngdom of heuenes suffrith violence, and violent men rauyschen it.

13. यूहन्ना तक सारे भविष्यद्वक्ता और व्यवस्था भविष्यद्ववाणी करते रहे।

13. For alle prophetis and the lawe `til to Joon prophecieden; and if ye wolen resseyue,

14. और चाहो तो मानो, एलिरयाह जो आनेवाला था, वह यही है।

15. जिस के सुनने के कान हों, वह सुन ले।

16. मैं इस समय के लोगों की उपमा किस से दूं? वे उन बालकों के समान हैं, जो बाजारों में बैठे हुए एक दूसरे से पुकारकर कहते हैं।

17. कि हम ने तुम्हारे लिये बांसली बजाई, और तुम न नाचे; हम ने विलाप किया, और तुम ने छाती नहीं पीटी।

17. and seien, We han songun to you, and ye han not daunsid; we han morned to you, and ye han not weilid.

18. क्योंकि यूहन्ना न खाता आया और न पीता, और वे कहते हैं कि उस में दुष्टात्मा है।

18. For Joon cam nether etynge ne drynkynge, and thei seien, He hath a deuel.

19. मनुष्य का पुत्रा खाता- पीता आया, और वे कहते हैं कि देखो, पेटू और पियक्कड़ मनुष्य, महसूल लेनेवालों और पापियों का मित्रा; पर ज्ञान अपने कामों में सच्चा ठहराया गया है।

19. The sone of man cam etynge and drynkynge, and thei seien, Lo! a man a glotoun, and a drinkere of wijne, and a freend of pupplicans and of synful men. And wisdom is iustified of her sones.

20. तब वह उन नगरों को उलाहना देने लगा, जिन में उस ने बहुतेरे सामर्थ के काम किए थे; क्योंकि उन्हों ने अपना मन नहीं फिराया था।

24. पर मैं तुम से कहता हूं, कि न्याय के दिन तेरी दशा से सदोम के देश की दशा अधिक सहने योग्य होगी।

25. उसी समय यीशु ने कहा, हे पिता, स्वर्ग और पृथ्वी के प्रभु; मैं तेरा धन्यवाद करता हूं, कि तू ने इन बातों को ज्ञानियों और समझदारों से छिपा दखा, और बालकों पर प्रगट किया है।

25. In thilke tyme Jhesus answeride, and seide, Y knowleche to thee, fadir, lord of heuene and of erthe, for thou hast hid these thingis fro wijse men, and redi, and hast schewid hem to litle children;
