1. चांदी की खानि तो होती है, और सोने के लिये भी स्थान होता है जहां लोग ताते हैं।

1. 'Surely there is a mine for silver, and a place where gold is refined.

2. जोहा मिट्टी में से निकाला जाता और पत्थर पिघलाकर पीतल बनाया जाता है

2. Iron is taken from the ground, and rock is poured out as copper.

3. मनुष्य अन्धियारे को दूर कर, दूर दूर तक खोद खोद कर, अन्धियारे ओर घोर अन्धकार में पत्थर ढूंढ़ते हैं।

3. Man puts an end to the darkness; he searches the farthest recesses for the ore in the deepest darkness.

4. जहां लोग रहते हैं वहां से दूर वे खानि खोदते हैं वहां पृथ्वी पर चलनेवालों के भूले बिसरे हुए वे मनुष्यों से दूर लटके हुए झूलते रहते हैं।

4. Far from where people live he sinks a shaft, in places travelers have long forgotten, far from other people he dangles and sways.

5. यह भूमि जो है, इस से रोटी तो मिलती है, परन्तु उसके नीचे के स्थान मानो आग से उलट दिए जाते हैं।

5. The earth, from which food comes, is overturned below as though by fire;

6. उसके पत्थ्र नीलमणि का स्थान हैं, और उसी में सोने की धूलि भी है।

6. a place whose stones are sapphires and which contains dust of gold;

7. उसका मार्ग कोई मांसाहारी पक्षी नहीं जानता, और किसी गिठ्ठ की दृष्टि उस पर नहीं पड़ी।

7. a hidden path no bird of prey knows no falcon's eye has spotted it.

8. उस पर अभिमानी पशुओं ने पांव नहीं धरा, और न उस से होकर कोई सिंह कभी गया है।

8. Proud beasts have not set foot on it, and no lion has passed along it.

9. वह चकमक के पत्थर पर हाथ लगाता, और पहाड़ों को जड़ ही से उलट देता है।

9. On the flinty rock man has set to work with his hand; he has overturned mountains at their bases.

10. वह चट्टान खोदकर नालियां बनाता, और उसकी आंखों को हर एक अनमोल वस्तु दिखाई पड़ती है।

10. He has cut out channels through the rocks; his eyes have spotted every precious thing.

11. वह नदियों को ऐसा रोक देता है, कि उन से एक बूंद भी पानी नहीं टपकता और जो कुछ छिपा है उसे वह उजियाले में निकालता है।

11. He has searched the sources of the rivers and what was hidden he has brought into the light.

12. परन्तु बुध्दि कहां मिल सकती है? और समझ का स्थान कहां है?

12. 'But wisdom where can it be found? Where is the place of understanding?

13. उसका मोल मनुष्य को मालूम नहीं, जीवनलोक में वह कहीं नहीं मिलती !

13. Mankind does not know its place; it cannot be found in the land of the living.

14. अथाह सागर कहता है, वह मुझ में नहीं है, और समुद्र भी कहता है, वह मेरे पास नहीं है।

14. The deep says, 'It is not with me.' And the sea says, 'It is not with me.'

15. चोखे सोने से वह मोल लिया नहीं जाता। और न उसके दाम के लिये चान्दी तौली जाती है।

15. Fine gold cannot be given in exchange for it, nor can its price be weighed out in silver.

16. न तो उसके साथ ओपीर के कुन्दन की बराबरी हो सकती है; और न अनमोल सुलैमानी पत्थर वा नीलमणि की।

16. It cannot be measured out for purchase with the gold of Ophir, with precious onyx or sapphires.

17. न सोना, न कांच उसके बराबर ठहर सकता है, कुन्दन के गहने के बदले भी वह नहीं मिलती।

17. Neither gold nor crystal can be compared with it, nor can a vase of gold match its worth.

18. मूंगे और स्फटिकमणि की उसके आगे क्या चर्चा ! बुध्दि का मोल माणिक से भी अधिक है।

18. Of coral and jasper no mention will be made; the price of wisdom is more than pearls.

19. कूश देश के पद्मराग उसके तुल्य नहीं ठहर सकते; और न उस से चोखे कुन्दन की बराबरी हो सकती है।

19. The topaz of Cush cannot be compared with it; it cannot be purchased with pure gold.

20. फिर बुध्दि कहां मिल सकती है? और समझ का स्थान कहां?

20. 'But wisdom where does it come from? Where is the place of understanding?

21. वह सब प्राणियों की आंखों से छिपी है, और आकाश के पक्षियों के देखने में नहीं आती।

21. For it has been hidden from the eyes of every living creature, and from the birds of the sky it has been concealed.

22. विनाश ओर मृत्यु कहती हैं, कि हमने उसकी चर्चा सुनी है।

22. Destruction and Death say, 'With our ears we have heard a rumor about where it can be found.'

23. परन्तु परमेश्वर उसका मार्ग समझता है, और उसका स्थान उसको मालूम है।

23. God understands the way to it, and he alone knows its place.

24. वह तो पृथ्वी की छोर तक ताकता रहता है, और सारे आकाशमणडल के तले देखता भालता है।

24. For he looks to the ends of the earth and observes everything under the heavens.

25. जब उस ने वायु का तौल ठहराया, और जल को नपुए में नापा,

25. When he made the force of the wind and measured the waters with a gauge.

26. और मेंह के लिये विधि और गर्जन और बिजली के लिये मार्ग ठहराया,

26. When he imposed a limit for the rain, and a path for the thunderstorm,

27. तब उस ने बुध्दि को देखकर उसका बखान भी किया, और उसको सिठ्ठ करके उसका पूरा भेद बूझ लिया।

27. then he looked at wisdom and assessed its value; he established it and examined it closely.

28. तब उस न मनुष्य से कहा, देख, प्रभु का भय मानना यही बुध्दि हैे और बुराई से दूर रहना यही समझ है।

28. And he said to mankind, 'The fear of the LORD that is wisdom, and to turn away from evil is understanding.'' IV. Job's Concluding Soliloquy
