1. यहोवा का सन्दूक पलिश्तियों के देश में सात महीने तक रहा।

1. And the ark was in the country of the Philistines for seven months, and their land brought forth swarms of rats.

2. तब पलिश्तियों ने याजकों और भावी करनेवालों को बुलाकर पूछा, कि यहोवा के सन्दूक से हम क्या करें? हमें बताओं की क्या प्रायश्चित देकर हम उसे उसके स्थान पर भेजें?

2. And the Philistines called their priests, and their prophets, and their enchanters, saying, What shall we do to the ark of the Lord? Teach us how we shall send it away to its [proper] place.

3. वे बोले, यदि तुम इस्राएल के देवता का सन्दूक वहां भेजा, जो उसे वैसे ही न भेजना; उसकी हानि भरने के लिये अवश्य ही दोषबलि देना। तब तुम चंगे हो जाओगे, और तुम जान लोगों कि उसका हाथ तुम पर से क्यों नहीं उठाया गया।

3. And they said, If you send away the ark of the covenant of the Lord God of Israel, do not on any account send it away empty, but by all means render to it an offering for the plague; and then shall you be healed, and an atonement shall be made for you. Should not His hand be thus stayed from off you?

4. उन्हों ने पूछा, हम उसकी हानि भरने के लिये कोन सा दोषबलि दें? वे बोले, पलिश्ती सरदारों की गिनती के अनुसार सोने की पांच गिलटियां, और सोने के पांच चूहे; क्योंकि तुम सब और तुम्हारे सरदार दोनों एक ही रोग से ग्रसित हो।

4. And they said, What is the offering for the plague which we shall return to it? And they said,

5. तो तुम अपनी गिलटियों और अपने देश के नाश करनेवाले चूहों की भी मूरतें बनाकर इस्राएल के देवता की महिमा मानो; सम्भव है वह अपना हाथ तुम पर से और तुम्हारे देवताओं और देश पर से उठा ले।

5. According to the number of the lords of the Philistines, five golden tumors, for the plague was on you, and on your rulers, and on the people; and golden rats, the likeness of the rats that destroy your land. And you shall give glory to the Lord, that He may lighten His hand from off you, and from off your gods, and from off your land.

6. तुम अपने मन क्यों ऐसे हठीले करते हो जैसे मिस्त्रियों और फिरौन ने अपने मन हठीले कर दिए थे? जब उस ने उनके मध्य में अचम्भित काम किए, तब क्या उन्हों ने उन लोगों को जाने न दिया, और क्या वे चले न गए?

6. And why do you harden your hearts, as Egypt and Pharaoh hardened their hearts? Was it not so when He mocked them, that they let the people go, and they departed?

7. सो अब तुम एक नई गाड़ी बनाओ, और ऐसी दो दुधार गायें लो जो सुए तले न आई हों, और उन गायों को उस गाड़ी में जोतकर उनके बच्चों को उनके पास से लेकर घर को लौटा दो।

7. And now take wood and make a new wagon, and take two cows, that have calved for the first time, without their calves; and yoke the cows to the wagon, and lead the calves away from them, and take them home.

8. तब यहोवा का सन्दूक लेकर उस गाड़ी पर धर दो, और साने की जो वस्तुएं तुम उसकी हाति भरने के लिये दोषबलि की रीति से दोगे उन्हें दूसरे सन्दूक में घर के उसके पास रख दो। फिर उसे रवाना कर दो कि चली जाए।

8. And you shall take the ark and put it on the wagon. And you shall restore to it the golden articles for the trespass offering in a coffer by the side of it; and you shall let it go, and sent it away, and you shall depart.

9. और देखते रहना; यदि वह अपने देश के मार्ग से होकर बेतशेमेश को चले, तो जानो कि हमारी यह बड़ी हानि उसी की ओर से हुई: और यदि नहीं, तो हम को निश्चय होगा कि यह मार हम पर उसकी ओर से नहीं, परन्तु संयोग ही से हुई।

9. And you shall see, if it shall go the way of its coasts along by Beth Shemesh, He has brought upon us this great affliction; and if not, then shall we know that His hand has not touched us, and this has happened to us by chance.

10. उन मनुष्यों ने वैसा ही किया; अर्थात् दो दुधार गायें लेकर उस गाड़ी में जोतीं, और उनके बच्चों को घर में बन्द कर दिया।

10. And the Philistines did so. And they took two cows that had calved for the first time, and yoked them to the wagon, and shut up their calves at home.

11. और यहोवा का सन्दूक, और दूसरा सन्दूक, और सोने के चूहों और अपनी गिलटियों की मूरतों को गाड़ी पर रख दिया।

11. And they set the ark of the Lord, and the coffer, and the golden rats on the wagon.

12. तब गायों ने बेतशमेश को सीधा मार्ग लिया; वे सड़क ही सड़क बम्बाती हुई चली गई, और न दहिने मुड़ी और न बायें; और पलिश्तियों के सरदार उनके पीछे पीछे बेतशेमेश के सिवाने तक गए।

12. And the cows went straight on the way to the way of Beth Shemesh, they went along one track and labored, and did not turn aside to the right hand or to the left, and the lords of the Philistines went after it as far as the coasts of Beth Shemesh.

13. और बेतशेमेश के लोग तराई में गेहूं काट रहे थे; और जब उन्हों ने आंखें उठाकर सन्दूक को देखा, तब उसके देखने से आनन्दित हुए।

13. And the men of Beth Shemesh were reaping the wheat harvest in the valley; and they lifted up their eyes, and saw the ark of the Lord, and rejoiced to meet it.

14. और गाड़ी यहोशू नाम एक बेतशेमेशी के खेत में जाकर वहां ठहर गई, जहां एक बड़ा पत्थर था। तब उन्हों ने गाड़ी की लकड़ी को चीरा और गायों को होमबलि करके यहोवा के लिये चढ़ाया।

14. And the wagon entered into the field of Osee, which was in Beth Shemesh, and they set there by it a great stone; and they split the wood of the wagon, and offered up the cows for a whole burnt offering to the Lord.

15. और लेवीयों ने यहोवा के सन्दूक को उस सन्दूक के समेत जो साथ था, जिस में सोने की वस्तुएं थी, उतारके उस बड़े पत्थर पर धर दिया; और बेतशेमेश के लोगों ने उसी दिन यहोवा के लिये होमबलि और मेलबलि चढ़ाए।

15. And the Levites brought up the ark of the Lord, and the coffer with it, and the golden articles upon it, and placed them on the great stone, and the men of Beth Shemesh offered whole burnt offerings and grain offerings on that day to the Lord.

16. यह देखकर पलिश्तियों के पांचों सरदार उसी दिन एक्रोन को लौट गए।।

16. And the five lords of the Philistines saw, and returned to Ekron in that day.

17. सोने की गिलटियां जो पलिश्तियों ने यहोवा की हाति भरने के लिये दोषबलि करके दे दी थी उन में से एक तो अशदोद की ओर से, एक अज्जा, एक अश्कलोन, एक गत, और एक एक्रोन की ओर से दी गई थी।

17. And these are the golden tumors which the lords of the Philistines gave as a trespass offering to the Lord; for Azotus one, for Gaza one, for Ashkelon one, for Gath one, and for Ekron one.

18. और वह सोने के चूहे, क्या शहरपनाहवाले नगर, क्या बिना शहरपनाह के गांव, वरन जिस बड़े पत्थर पर यहोवा का सन्दूक धरा गया था वहां पलिश्तियों के पांचों सरदारों के अधिकार तक की सब बस्तियों की गिनती के अनुसार दिए गए। वह पत्थर तो आज तक बेतशेमेशी यहोशू के खेत में है।

18. And the golden rats according to the number of all the cities of the Philistines, belonging to the five lords, from the fenced city to the village of the Perizzite, and to the great stone, on which they placed the ark of the covenant of the Lord, that was in the field of Osee of Beth Shemesh.

19. फिर इस कारण से कि बेतशेमेश के लोगों ने यहोवा के सन्दूक के भीतर झांका था उस ने उन में से सत्तर मनुष्य, और फिर पचास हजार मनुष्य मार डाले; और वहां के लोगों ने इसलिये विलाप किया कि यहोवा ने लोगों का बड़ा ही संहार किया था।

19. And the sons of Jeconiah were not pleased with the men of Beth Shemesh, because they looked into the ark of the Lord; and the Lord struck fifty thousand and seventy men among them. And the people mourned, because the Lord had inflicted on the people a very great plague.

20. तब बेतशेमेश के लोग कहने लगे, इस पवित्रा परमेश्वर यहोवा के साम्हने कौन खड़ा रह सकता है? और वह हमारे पास से किस के पास चला जाए?

20. And the men of Beth Shemesh said, Who shall be able to pass before this holy Lord God? And to whom shall the ark of the Lord go up from us?

21. तब उन्हों ने किर्यत्यारीम के निवासियों के पास यों कहने को दूत भेजे, कि पलिश्तियों ने यहोवा का सन्दूक लौटा दिया है; इसलिये तुम आकर उसे अपने यहां ले जाओ।।

21. And they send messengers to the inhabitants of Kirjath Jearim, saying, The Philistines have brought back the ark of the Lord, go down and take it home to yourselves.
