1. तब गिदोन जो यरूब्बाल भी कहलाता है और सब लोग जो उसके संग थे सवेरे उठे, और हरोद नाम सोते के पास अपने डेरे खड़े किए; और मिद्यानियों की छावनी उनकी उत्तरी ओर मोरे नाम पहाड़ी के पास तराई में पड़ी थी।।

1. Then Jerubbaal, who is Gideon, and all the people who were with him, rose up early, and encamped beside the spring of Harod. And the camp of Midian was on the north side of them, by the hill of Moreh, in the valley.

2. तब यहोवा ने गिदोन से कहा, जो लोग तेरे संग हैं वे इतने हैं कि मैं मिद्यानियों को उनके हाथ नहीं कर सकता, नहीं तो इस्राएल यह कहकर मेरे विरूद्ध अपनी बड़ाई मारने लगे, कि हम अपने ही भुजबल के द्वारा बचे हैं।

2. And LORD said to Gideon, The people who are with thee are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hand, lest Israel vaunt themselves against me, saying, My own hand has saved me.

3. इसलिये तू जाकर लोगों में यह प्रचार करके सुना दे, कि जो कोई डर के मारे थरथराता हो, वह गिलाद पहाड़ से लौटकर चला जाए। तब बाईस हजार लोग लौट गए, और केवल दस हजार रह गए।

3. Now therefore proclaim in the ears of the people, saying, Whoever is fearful and trembling, let him return and depart from mount Gilead. And there returned of the people twenty-two thousand, and there remained ten thousand.

4. फिर यहोवा ने गिदोन से कहा, अब भी लोग अधिक हैं; उन्हें सोते के पास नीचे ले चल, वहां मैं उन्हें तेरे लिये परखूंगा; और जिस जिसके विषय में मैं तुझ से कहूं, कि यह तेरे संग चले, वह तो तेरे संग चले; और जिस जिसके विषय मे मैं कहूं, कि यह तेरे संग न जाए, वह न जाए।

4. And LORD said to Gideon, The people are yet too many. Bring them down to the water, and I will try them for thee there. And it shall be, that of whom I say to thee, This man shall go with thee, the same shall go with thee, and of whomever I say to thee, This man shall not go with thee, the same shall not go.

5. तब वह उनको सोते के पास नीचे ले गया; वहां यहोवा ने गिदोन से कहा, जितने कुत्ते की नाई जीभ से पानी चपड़ चपड़ करके पीएं उनको अलग रख; और वैसा ही उन्हें भी जो घुटने टेककर पीएं।

5. So he brought down the people to the water. And LORD said to Gideon, Everyone who laps of the water with his tongue, as a dog laps, him thou shall set by himself. Likewise everyone who bows down upon his knees to drink.

6. जिन्हों ने मुंह में हाथ लगा चपड़ चपड़ करके पानी पिया उनकी तो गिनती तीन सौ ठहरी; और बाकी सब लोगों ने घुटने टेककर पानी पिया।

6. And the number of those who lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, was three hundred men, but all the rest of the people bowed down upon their knees to drink water.

7. तब यहोवा ने गिदोन से कहा, इन तीन सौ चपड़ चपड़ करके पीनेवालों के द्वारा मैं तुम को छुड़ाऊंगा, और मिद्यानियों को तेरे हाथ में कर दूंगा; और सब लोग अपने अपने स्थान को लौट जाए।

7. And LORD said to Gideon, By the three hundred men who lapped I will save you, and deliver the Midianites into thy hand. And let all the people go every man to his place.

8. तब उन लोगों ने हाथ में सीधा और अपने अपने नरसिंगे लिए; और उस ने इस्राएल के सब पुरूषों को अपने अपने डेरे की ओर भेज दिया, परन्तु उन तीन सौ पुरूषों को अपने पास रख छोड़ा; और मिद्यान की छावनी उसके नीचे तराई में पड़ी थी।।

8. So the people took provision in their hand, and their trumpets. And he sent all the men of Israel every man to his tent, but retained the three hundred men. And the camp of Midian was beneath him in the valley.

9. उसी रात को यहोवा ने उस से कहा, उठ, छावनी पर चढ़ाई कर; क्योंकि मैं उसे तेरे हाथ कर देता हूं।

9. And it came to pass the same night, that LORD said to him, Arise, get thee down into the camp, for I have delivered it into thy hand.

10. परन्तु यदि तू चढ़ाई करते डरता हो, तो अपने सेवक फूरा को संग लेकर छावनी के पास जाकर सुन,

10. But if thou fear to go down, go thou with Purah thy servant down to the camp.

11. कि वे क्या कह रहे है; उसके बाद तुझे उस छावनी पर चढ़ाई करने का हियाव होगा। तब वह अपने सेवक फूरा को संग ले उन हथियार- बन्दों के पास जो छावनी की छोर पर थे उतर गया।

11. And thou shall hear what they say, and afterward thy hands shall be strengthened to go down into the camp. Then he went down with Purah his servant to the outermost part of the armed men who were in the camp.

12. मिद्यानी और अमालेकी और सब पूर्वी लोग तो टिडि्डयों के समान बहुत से तराई में फैले पड़े थे; और उनके ऊंट समुद्रतीर के बालू के किनकों के समान गिनती से बाहर थे।

12. And the Midianites and the Amalekites and all the sons of the east lay along in the valley like locusts for multitude, and their camels were without number, as the sand which is upon the sea-shore for multitude.

13. जब गिदोन वहां आया, तब एक जन अपने किसी संगी से अपना स्वप्न यों कह रहा था, कि सुन, मैं ने स्वप्न में क्या देखा है कि जौ की एक रोटी लुढ़कते लुढ़कते मिद्यान की छावनी में आई, और डेरे को ऐसा टक्कर मारा कि वह गिर गया, और उसको ऐसा उलट दिया, कि डेरा गिरा पड़ा रहा।

13. And when Gideon came, behold, there was a man telling a dream to his fellow. And he said, Behold, I dreamed a dream. And, lo, a cake of barley bread tumbled into the camp of Midian, and came to the tent, and smote it so that it fell, and turned it upside down so that the tent lay flat.

14. उसके संगी ने उत्तर दिया, यह योआश के पुत्रा गिदोन नाम एक इस्राएली पुरूष की तलवार को छोड़ कुछ नहीं है; उसी के हाथ में परमेश्वर ने मिद्यान को सारी छावनी समेत कर दिया है।।

14. And his fellow answered and said, This is nothing else except the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel. Into his hand God has delivered Midian, and all the army.

15. उस स्वप्न का वर्णन और फल सुनकर गिदोन ने दण्डवत् की; और इस्राएल की छावनी में लौटकर कहा, उठो, यहोवा ने मिद्यानी सेना को तुम्हारे वश में कर दिया है।

15. And it was so, when Gideon heard the telling of the dream, and the interpretation of it, that he worshipped. And he returned into the camp of Israel, and said, Arise, for LORD has delivered the army of Midian into your hand.

16. तब उस ने उन तीन सौ पुरूषों के तीन झुण्ड किए, और एक एक पुरूष के हाथ में एक नरसिंगा और खाली घड़ा दिया, और घड़ों के भीतर एक मशाल थी।

16. And he divided the three hundred men into three companies, and he put trumpets into the hands of all of them, and empty pitchers, with torches inside the pitchers.

17. फिर उस ने उन से कहा, मुझे देखो, और वैसा ही करो; सुनो, जब मैं उस छावनी की छोर पर पहुंचूं, तब जैसा मैं करूं वैसा ही तुम भी करना।

17. And he said to them, Look on me, and do likewise, and, behold, when I come to the outermost part of the camp, it shall be that, as I do, so ye shall do.

18. अर्थात् जब मैं और मेरे सब संगी नरसिंगा फूंकें तब तुम भी छावनी की चारों ओर नरसिंगे फूंकना, और ललकारना, कि यहोवा की और गिदोन की तलवार।।

18. When I blow the trumpet, I and all who are with me, then blow ye the trumpets also on every side of all the camp, and say, For LORD and for Gideon.

19. बीचवाले पहर के आदि में ज्योंही पहरूओं की बदली हो गई थी त्योहीं गिदोन अपने संग के सौ पुरूषों समेत छावनी की छोर पर गया; और नरसिंगे को फूंक दिया और अपने हाथ के घड़ों को तोड़ डाला।

19. So Gideon, and the hundred men who were with him, came to the outermost part of the camp in the beginning of the middle watch when they had but newly set the watch. And they blew the trumpets, and broke in pieces the pitchers that were in their hands.

20. तब तीनों झुण्डों ने नरसिंगों को फूंका और घड़ों को तोड़ डाला; और अपने अपने बाएं हाथ में मशाल और दहिने हाथ में फूंकने को नरसिंगा लिए हुए चिल्ला उठे, यहोवा की तलवार और गिदोन की तलवार।

20. And the three companies blew the trumpets, and broke the pitchers, and held the torches in their left hands, and the trumpets in their right hands with which to blow. And they cried out, The sword of LORD and of Gideon.

21. तब वे छावनी के चारों ओर अपने अपने स्थान पर खड़े रहे, और सब सेना के लोग दौड़ने लगे; और उन्हों ने चिल्ला चिल्लाकर उन्हें भगा दिया।

21. And they stood every man in his place round about the camp. And all the army ran, and they shouted, and put them to flight.

22. और उन्हों ने तीन सौ नरसिंगों को फूंका, और यहोवा ने एक एक पुरूष की तलवार उसके संगी पर और सब सेना पर चलवाई; तो सेना के लोग सरेरा की ओर बेतशित्ता तब और तब्बात के पास के आबेलमहोला तक भाग गए।

22. And they blew the three hundred trumpets, and LORD set every man's sword against his fellow, and against all the army. And the army fled as far as Beth-shittah toward Zererah, as far as the border of Abel-meholah, by Tabbath.

23. तब इस्राएली पुरूष नप्ताली और आशेर और मनश्शे के सारे देश से इकट्ठे होकर मिद्यानियों के पीछे पड़े।

23. And the men of Israel were gathered together out of Naphtali, and out of Asher, and out of all Manasseh, and pursued after Midian.

24. और गिदोन ने एप्रैम के सब पहाड़ी देश में यह कहने को दूत भेज दिए, कि मिद्यानियों से मुठभेड़ करने को चले आओ, और यरदन नदी के घाटों को बेतबारा तक उन से पहिले अपने वश में कर लो। तब सब एप्रैमी पुरूषों ने इकट्ठे होकर यरदन नदी को बेतबारा तक अपने वश में कर लिया।

24. And Gideon sent messengers throughout all the hill-country of Ephraim, saying, Come down against Midian, and take before them the waters, as far as Beth-barah, even the Jordan. So all the men of Ephraim were gathered together, and took the waters as far as Beth-barah, even the Jordan.

25. और उन्हों ने ओरेब और जेब नाम मिद्यान के दो हाकिमों को पकड़ा; और ओरेब को ओरेब नाम चट्टान पर, और जेब को जेब नाम दाखरस के कुण्ड पर घात किया; और वे मिद्यानियों के पीछे पड़े; और ओरेब और जेब के सिर यरदन के पार गिदोन के पास ले गए।।

25. And they took the two princes of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb. And they killed Oreb at the rock of Oreb, and Zeeb they killed at the winepress of Zeeb, and pursued Midian. And they brought the heads of Oreb and Zeeb to Gideon beyond the Jordan.
