1. शिमशोन तिम्ना को गया, और तिम्ना में एक पलिश्तिी स्त्री को देखा।

1. And Sampson went down to Timnah, and saw a woman in Timnah of the daughters of the Philistines.

2. तब उस ने जाकर अपने माता पिता से कहा, तिम्ना में मैं ने एक पलिश्तिी स्त्री को देखा है, सो अब तुम उस से मेरा ब्याह करा दो।

2. And he went up and told his father and his mother, and said, I have seen a woman in Timnah of the daughters of the Philistines; and now take her to me for a wife.

3. उसके माता पिता ने उस से कहा, क्या तेरे धाइयों की बेटियों में, वा हमारे सब लोगों में कोई स्त्री नहीं है, कि तू खतनाहीन पलिश्तियों में से स्त्री ब्याहने चाहता है? शिमशोन ने अपने पिता से कहा, उसी से मेरा ब्याह करा दे; क्योंकि मुझे वही अच्छी लगती है।

3. And his father and his mother said to him, Are there no daughters among your brethren, and [is there not] a woman of all my people that you go to take a wife of the uncircumcised Philistines? And Sampson said to his father, Take her for me, for she is right in my eyes.

4. उसके माता पिता न जानते थे कि यह बात यहोवा की ओर से होती है, कि वह पलिश्तियों के विरूद्ध दांव ढूंढता है। उस समय तो पलिश्ती इस्राएल पर प्रभुता करते थे।।

4. And his father and his mother knew not that it was of the Lord, that He sought to be revenged on the Philistines. And at that time the Philistines lorded it over Israel.

5. तब शिमशोन अपने माता पिता को संग ले तिम्ना को चलकर तिम्ना की दाख की बारी के पास पहुंचा, वहां उसके साम्हने एक जवान सिंह गरजने लगा।

5. And Sampson and his father and his mother went down to Timnah, and he came to the vineyard of Timnah. And behold, a young lion roared in meeting him.

6. तब यहोवा का आत्मा उस पर बल से उतरा, और यद्यपि उसके हाथ में कुछ न था, तौभी उस ने उसको ऐसा फाड़ डाला जैसा कोई बकरी का बच्चा फाड़े। अपना यह काम उसने अपने पिता वा माता को न बतलाया।

6. And the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon him, and he crushed [the lion] as he would have crushed a young goat, and there was nothing in his hands. And he did not tell his father or his mother what he had done.

7. तब उस ने जाकर उस स्त्री से बातचीत की; और वह शिमशोन को अच्छी लगी।

7. And they went down and spoke to the woman, and she was pleasing in the eyes of Sampson.

8. कुछ दिनों के बीतने पर वह उसे लाने को लौट चला; और उस सिंह की लोथ देखने के लिये मार्ग से मुड़ गया? तो क्या देखा कि सिंह की लोथ में मधुमक्खियों का एक झुण्ड और मधु भी है।

8. And after some time he returned to take her, and he turned aside to see the carcass of the lion. And behold, a swarm of bees and honey [were] in the mouth of the lion.

9. तब वह उस में से कुछ हाथ में लेकर खाते खाते अपने माता पिता के पास गया, और उनको यह बिना बताए, कि मैं ने इसको सिंह की लोथ में से निकाला है, कुछ दिया, और उन्हों ने भी उसे खाया।

9. And he took it into his hands, and went on eating, and he went to his father and his mother, and gave to them, and they did eat; but he did not tell them that he took the honey out of the mouth of the lion.

10. तब उसका पिता उस स्त्री के यहां गया, और शिमशोन न जवानों की रीति के अनुसार वहां जेवनार की।

10. And his father went down to the woman, and Sampson made there a banquet for seven days, for so the young men are used to doing.

11. उसको देखकर वे उसके संग रहने के लिये तीस संगियों को ले आए।

11. And it came to pass when they saw him, that they took thirty guests, and they were with him.

12. शिमशोन ने उस ने कहा, मैं तुम से एक पहेली कहता हूं; यदि तुम इस जेवनार के सातों दिनों के भीतर उसे बूझकर अर्थ बता दो, तो मैं तुम को तीस कुरते और तीस जोड़े कपड़े दूंगा;

12. And Sampson said to them, I propound you a riddle: if you will indeed tell it to me, and discover it within the seven days of the feast, I will you give thirty sheets and thirty changes of clothing.

13. और यदि तुम उसे न बता सको, तो तुम को मुझे तीस कुर्ते और तीस जोड़े कपड़े देने पड़ेंगे। उन्हों ने उस से कहा, अपनी पहेली कह, कि हम उसे सुनें।

13. And if you cannot tell it me, you shall give me thirty linen garments and thirty changes of clothing. And they said to him, Propound your riddle, and we will hear it.

14. उस ने उन से कहा, खानेवाले में से खाना, और बलवन्त में से मीठी वस्तु निकली। इस पहेली का अर्थ वे तीन दिन के भीतर न बता सके।

14. And he said to them, Out of the eater came something to eat, and out of the strong came something sweet. And they could not explain the riddle for three days.

15. सातवें दिन उन्हों ने शिमशोन की पत्नी से कहा, अपने पति को फुसला कि वह हमें पहेली का अर्थ बताए, नहीं तो हम तुझे तेरे पिता के घर समेत आग में जलाएंगे। क्या तुम लोगों ने हमारा धन लेने के लिये हमारा नेवता किया है? क्या यही बात नहीं है?

15. And it came to pass on the fourth day, that they said to the wife of Sampson, Deceive now your husband, and let him tell you the riddle, lest we burn you and your father's house with fire: did you invite us to do us violence?

16. तब शिमशोन की पत्नी यह कहकर उसके साम्हने रोने लगी, कि तू तो मुझ से प्रेम नहीं, बैर ही रखता है; कि तू ने एक पहेली मेरी जाति के लोगों से तो कही है, परन्तु मुझ को उसका अर्थ भी नहीं बताया। उस ने कहा, मैं ने उसे अपनी माता वा पिता को भी नहीं बताया, फिर क्या मैं तुझ को बता दूं?

16. And Sampson's wife wept before him, and said, You just hate me! You don't love me! For the riddle which you have propounded to the children of my people you have not told me. And Sampson said to her, If I have not told it to my father and my mother, shall I tell it to you?

17. और जेवनार के सातों दिनों में वह स्त्री उसके साम्हने रोती रही; और सातवें दिन जब उस ने उसको बहुत तंग किया; तब उस ने उसको पहेली का अर्थ बता दिया। तब उस ने उसे अपनी जाति के लोगों को बता दिया।

17. And she wept before him the seven days, during which their banquet lasted. And it came to pass on the seventh day, that he told her, because she troubled him; and she told it to the children of her people.

18. तब सातवें दिन सूर्य डूबने न पाया कि उस नगर के मनुष्यों ने शिमशोन से कहा, मधु से अधिक क्या मीठा? और सिंह से अधिक क्या बलवन्त है? उस ने उन से कहा, यदि तुम मेरी कलोर को हल में न जोतते, तो मेरी पहेली को कभी न बूझते।।

18. And the men of the city said to him on the seventh day, before sunrise, What is sweeter than honey? And what is stronger than a lion? And Sampson said to them, If you had not plowed with my heifer, you would not have known my riddle.

19. तब यहोवा का आत्मा उस पर बल से उतरा, और उस ने अश्कलोन को जाकर वहां के तीस पूरूषों को मार डाला, और उनका धन लूटकर तीस जोड़े कपड़ों को पहेली के बतानेवालों को दे दिया। तब उसका क्रोध भड़का, और वह अपने पिता के घर गया।

19. And the Spirit of the Lord came upon him powerfully, and he went down to Ashkelon, and destroyed thirty men among the inhabitants, and took their garments, and gave the changes of clothing to them that told the riddle. And Sampson was very angry, and went up to the house of his father.

20. और शिमशोन की पत्नी उसके एक संगी को जिस से उस ने मित्रा का सा बर्ताव किया था ब्याह दी गई।।

20. And the wife of Sampson was [given] to one of his friends, with whom he was on terms of friendship.
