1. फेस्तुस उन प्रान्त में पहुंचकर तीन दिन के बार कैसरिया से यरूशलेम को गया।

1. Three days after Festus arrived in Caesarea to take up his duties as governor, he went up to Jerusalem.

2. तब महायाजकों ने, और यहूदियों के बड़े लोगों ने, उसके साम्हने पौलुस की नालिश की।

2. The high priests and top leaders renewed their vendetta against Paul.

3. और उसे से बिनती करके उसके विरोध में यह बर चाहा, कि वह उसे यरूशलेम में बुलवाए, क्योंकि वे उसे रास्ते ही में मार डालने की घात लगाए हुए थे।

3. They asked Festus if he wouldn't please do them a favor by sending Paul to Jerusalem to respond to their charges. A lie, of course--they had revived their old plot to set an ambush and kill him along the way.

4. फेस्तुस ने उत्तर दिया, कि पौलुस कैसरिया में पहरे में है, और मैं आप जल्द वहां आऊंगा।

4. Festus answered that Caesarea was the proper jurisdiction for Paul, and that he himself was going back there in a few days.

5. फिर कहा, तुम से जो अधिकार रखते हैं, वे साथ चलें, और यदि इस मनुष्य ने कुछ अनुचित काम किया है, तो उस पर दोष लगाएं।।

5. 'You're perfectly welcome,' he said, 'to go back with me then and accuse him of whatever you think he's done wrong.'

6. और उन के बीच कोई आठ दस दिन रहकर वह कैसरिया गया: और दूसरे दिन न्याय आसन पर बैठकर पौलुस के लाने की आज्ञा दी।

6. About eight or ten days later, Festus returned to Caesarea. The next morning he took his place in the courtroom and had Paul brought in.

7. जब वह आया, तो जो यहूदी यरूशलेम से आए थे, उन्हों ने आस पास खड़े होकर उस पर बहुतेरे भारी दोष लगाए, जिन का प्रमाण वे नहीं दे सकते थे।

7. The minute he walked in, the Jews who had come down from Jerusalem were all over him, hurling the most extreme accusations, none of which they could prove.

8. परन्तु पौलुस ने उत्तर दिया, कि मैं ने न तो यहूदियों की व्यवस्था का और न मन्दिर का, और न कैसर का कुछ अपराध किया है।

8. Then Paul took the stand and said simply, 'I've done nothing wrong against the Jewish religion, or the Temple, or Caesar. Period.'

9. तब फेस्तुस ने यहूदियों को खुश करने की इच्छा से पौलुस को उत्तर दिया, क्या तू चाहता है कि यरूशलेम को जाए; और वहां मेरे साम्हने तेरा यह मुक मा तय किया जाए?

9. Festus, though, wanted to get on the good side of the Jews and so said, 'How would you like to go up to Jerusalem, and let me conduct your trial there?'

10. पौलुस ने कहा; मैं कैसर के न्याय आसन के साम्हने खड़ा हूं: मेरे मुक में का यहीं फैसला होना चाहिए: जैसा तू अच्छी तरह जानता है, यहूदियों का मैं ने कुछ अपराध नहीं किया।

10. Paul answered, 'I'm standing at this moment before Caesar's bar of justice, where I have a perfect right to stand. And I'm going to keep standing here. I've done nothing wrong to the Jews, and you know it as well as I do.

11. यदि अपराधी हूं और मार डाले जाने योग्य कोई काम किया है; तो मरने से नहीं मुकरता; परन्तु जिन बातों का ये मुझ पर दोष लगाते हैं, यदि उन में से कोई बात सच न ठहरे, तो कोई मुझे उन के हाथ नहीं सौंप सकता: मैं कैसर की दोहाई देता हूं।

11. If I've committed a crime and deserve death, name the day. I can face it. But if there's nothing to their accusations--and you know there isn't--nobody can force me to go along with their nonsense. We've fooled around here long enough. I appeal to Caesar.'

12. तब फेस्तुस ने मन्त्रियों की सभा के साथ बातें करके उत्तर दिया, तू ने कैसर की दोहाई दी है, तू कैसर के पास जाएगा।।

12. Festus huddled with his advisors briefly and then gave his verdict: 'You've appealed to Caesar; you'll go to Caesar!'

13. और कुछ दिन बीतने के बाद अग्रिप्पा राजा और बिरनीके ने कैसरिया में आकर फेस्तुस से भेंट की।

13. A few days later King Agrippa and his wife, Bernice, visited Caesarea to welcome Festus to his new post.

14. और उन के बहुत दिन वहां रहने के बाद फेस्तुस ने पौलुस की कथा राजा को बताई; कि एक मनुष्य है, जिसे फेलिक्स बन्धुआ छोड़ गया है।

14. After several days, Festus brought up Paul's case to the king. 'I have a man on my hands here, a prisoner left by Felix.

15. जब मैं यरूशलेम में था, तो महायाजक और यहूदियों के पुरनियों ने उस की नालिश की; और चाहा, कि उस पर दण्ड की आज्ञा दी जाए।

15. When I was in Jerusalem, the high priests and Jewish leaders brought a bunch of accusations against him and wanted me to sentence him to death.

16. परन्तु मैं ने उन को उत्तर दिया, कि रोमियों की यह रीति नहीं, कि किसी मनुष्य को दण्ड के लिये सौंप दें, जब तक मुस्राअलैह को अपने मु इयों के आमने सामने खड़े होकर दोष के उत्तर देने का अवसर न मिले।

16. I told them that wasn't the way we Romans did things. Just because a man is accused, we don't throw him out to the dogs. We make sure the accused has a chance to face his accusers and defend himself of the charges.

17. सो जब वे यहां इकट्ठे हुए, तो मैं ने कुछ देर न की, परन्तु दूसरे ही दिन न्याय आसन पर बैठकर, उस मनुष्य को लाने की आज्ञा दी।

17. So when they came down here I got right on the case. I took my place in the courtroom and put the man on the stand.

18. जब उसके मु ई खड़े हुए, तो उन्हों ने ऐसी बुरी बातों का दोष नहीं लगाया, जैसा मैं समझता था।

18. 'The accusers came at him from all sides,

19. परन्तु अपने मत के, और यीशु नाम किसी मनुष्य के विषय में जो मर गया था, और पौलुस उस को जीवित बताता था, विवाद करते थे।

19. but their accusations turned out to be nothing more than arguments about their religion and a dead man named Jesus, who the prisoner claimed was alive.

20. और मैं उलझन में था, कि इन बातों का पता कैसे लगाऊं? इसलिये मैं ने उस से पूछा, क्या तू यरूशलेम जाएगा, कि वहां इन बातों का फैसला हो?

20. Since I'm a newcomer here and don't understand everything involved in cases like this, I asked if he'd be willing to go to Jerusalem and be tried there.

21. परन्तु जब पौलुस ने दोहाई दी, कि मेरे मुक में का फैसला महाराजाधिराज के यहां हो; तो मैं ने आज्ञा दी, कि जब तक उसे कैसर के पास न भेजूं, उस की रखवाली की जाए।

21. Paul refused and demanded a hearing before His Majesty in our highest court. So I ordered him returned to custody until I could send him to Caesar in Rome.'

22. तब अग्रिप्पा ने फेस्तुस से कहा, मैं भी उस मनुष्य की सुनना चाहता हूं: उस ने कहा, तू कल सुन लेगा।।

22. Agrippa said, 'I'd like to see this man and hear his story.' 'Good,' said Festus. 'We'll bring him in first thing in the morning and you'll hear it for yourself.'

23. सो दूसरे दिन, जब अग्रिप्पा और बिरनीके बड़ी धूमधाम से आकर पलटन के सरदारों और नगर के बड़े लोगों के साथ दरबार में पहुंचे, तो फेस्तुस ने आज्ञा दी, कि वे पौलुस को ले आएं।

23. The next day everybody who was anybody in Caesarea found his way to the Great Hall, along with the top military brass. Agrippa and Bernice made a flourishing grand entrance and took their places. Festus then ordered Paul brought in.

24. फेस्तुस ने कहा; हे महाराजा अग्रिप्पा, और हे सब मनुष्यों जो यहां हमारे साथ हो, तुम इस मनुष्य को देखते हो, जिस के विषय में सारे यहूदियों ने यरूशलेम में और यहां भी चिल्ला चिल्लाकर मुझ से बिनती की, कि इस का जीवित रहना उचित नहीं।

24. Festus said, 'King Agrippa and distinguished guests, take a good look at this man. A bunch of Jews petitioned me first in Jerusalem, and later here, to do away with him. They have been most vehement in demanding his execution.

25. परन्तु मैं ने जान लिया, कि उस ने ऐसा कुछ नहीं किया कि मार डाला जाए; और जब कि उस ने आप ही महाराजाधिराज की दोहाई दी, तो मैं ने उसे भेजने का उपाय निकाला।

25. I looked into it and decided that he had committed no crime. He requested a trial before Caesar and I agreed to send him to Rome.

26. परन्तु मैं ने उसके विषय में कोई ठीक बात नहीं पाई कि अपने स्वामी के पास लिखूं, इसलिये मैं उसे तुम्हारे साम्हने और विशेष करके हे महाराजा अग्रिप्पा तेरे साम्हने लाया हूं, कि जांचने के बाद मुझे कुछ लिखने को मिले।

26. But what am I going to write to my master, Caesar? All the charges made by the Jews were fabrications, and I've uncovered nothing else. 'That's why I've brought him before this company, and especially you, King Agrippa: so we can come up with something in the nature of a charge that will hold water.

27. क्योंकि बन्धुए को भेजना और जो दोष उस पर लगाए गए, उन्हें न बताना, मुझे व्यर्थ समझ पड़ता है।।

27. For it seems to me silly to send a prisoner all that way for a trial and not be able to document what he did wrong.'
