1. इसलिये कि बहुतों ने उन बातों को जो हमारे बीच में होती हैं इतिहास लिखने में हाथ लगाया है।

1. Many people have written about the things that have happened among us.

2. Those who saw everything from the first and helped teach the Good News have passed these things on to us.

3. Dear Theophilus, I have looked with care into these things from the beginning. I have decided it would be good to write them to you one after the other the way they happened.

4. कि तू यह जान ले, कि ये बातें जिनकी तू ने शिक्षा पाई है, कैसी अटल हैं।।

4. Then you can be sure you know the truth about the things you have been taught.

5. यहूदियों के राजा हेरोदेस के समय अबिरयाह के दल में जकरयाह नाम का एक याजक था, और उस की पत्नी हारून के वंश की थी, जिस का नाम इलीशिबा था।

5. When Herod was king of the country of Judea, there was a Jewish religious leader named Zacharias. He worked for Abijah. His wife was of the family group of Aaron. Her name was Elizabeth.

6. और वे दोनों परमेश्वर के साम्हने धर्मी थे: और प्रभु की सारी आज्ञाओं और विधियों पर निर्दोष चलनेवाले थे। उन के कोई सन्तान न थी,

6. They were right with God and obeyed the Jewish Law and did what the Lord said to do.

7. क्योंकि इलीशिबा बांझ थी, और वे दोनों बूढ़े थे।।

7. They had no children because Elizabeth was not able to have a child. Both of them were older people.

8. जब वह अपने दलकी पारी पर परमेश्वर के साम्हने याजक का काम करता था।

8. Zacharias was doing his work as a religious leader for God.

9. The religious leaders were given certain kinds of work to do. Zacharias was chosen to go to the house of God to burn special perfume.

10. और धूप जलाने के समय लोगों की सारी मण्डली बाहर प्रार्थना कर रही थी।

10. Many people stood outside praying during the time the special perfume was burning.

11. कि प्रभु का एक स्वर्गदूत धूप की वेदी की दहिनी ओर खड़ा हुआ उस को दिखाई दिया।

11. Zacharias saw an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar where the special perfume was burning.

12. और जकरयाह देखकर घबराया और उस पर बड़ा भय छा गया।

12. When he saw the angel, Zacharias was troubled and afraid.

13. परन्तु स्वर्गदूत ने उस से कहा, हे जकरयाह, भयभीत न हो क्योंकि तेरी प्रार्थना सुन ली गई है और तेरी पत्नी इलीशिबा से तेरे लिये एक पुत्रा उत्पन्न होगा, और तू उसका नाम यूहन्ना रखना।

13. The angel said to him, 'Zacharias, do not be afraid. Your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will give birth to a son. You are to name him John.

14. और तुझे आनन्द और हर्ष होगा: और बहुत लोग उसके जन्म के कारण आनन्दित होंगे।

14. You will be glad and have much joy. Many people will be happy because he is born.

15. क्योंकि वह प्रभु के साम्हने महान होगा; और दाखरस और मदिरा कभी न पिएगा; और अपनी माता के गर्भ ही से पवित्रा आत्मा से परिपूर्ण हो जाएगा।

15. He will be great in the sight of the Lord and will never drink wine or any strong drink. Even from his birth, he will be filled with the Holy Spirit.

16. Many of the Jews will be turned to the Lord their God by him.

17. He will be the one to go in the spirit and power of Elijah before Christ comes. He will turn the hearts of the fathers back to their children. He will teach those who do not obey to be right with God. He will get people ready for the Lord.' (Malachi 4:5-6)

18. Zacharias said to the angel, 'How can I know this for sure? I am old and my wife is old also.'

19. The angel said to him, 'My name is Gabriel. I stand near God. He sent me to talk to you and bring to you this good news.

20. और देख जिस दिन तक ये बातें पूरी न हो लें, उस दिन तक तू मौन रहेगा, और बोल न सकेगा, इसलिये कि तू ने मेरी बातों की जो अपने समय पर पूरी होंगी, प्रतीति न की।

20. See! You will not be able to talk until the day this happens. It is because you did not believe my words. What I said will happen at the right time.'

21. और लोग जकरयाह की बाट देखते रहे और अचम्भा करने लगे कि उसे मन्दिर में ऐसी देर क्यों लगी?

21. The people outside were waiting. They were surprised and wondered why Zacharias stayed so long in the house of God.

22. जब वह बाहर आया, तो उन से बोल न सका: सो वे जान गए, कि उस ने मन्दिर में कोई दर्शन पाया है; और व उन से संकेत करता रहा, और गूंगा रह गया।

22. When he came out, he could not talk to them. They knew he had seen something special from God while he was in the house of God. He tried to talk to them with his hands but could say nothing.

23. जब उस की सेवा के दिन पूरे हुए, तो वह अपने घर चला गया।।

23. When his days of working in the house of God were over, he went to his home.

24. इन दिनों के बाद उस की पत्नी इलीशिबा गर्भवती हुई; और पांच महीने तक अपने आप को यह कह के छिपाए रखा।

24. Some time later Elizabeth knew she was to become a mother. She kept herself hidden for five months. She said,

25. कि मनुष्यों में मेरा अपमान दूर करने के लिये प्रभु ने इन दिनों में कृपादृष्टि करके मेरे लिये ऐसा किया है।।

25. This is what the Lord has done for me. He has looked on me and has taken away my shame from among men.'

26. छठवें महीने में परमेश्वर की ओर से जिब्राईल स्वर्गदूत गलील के नासरत नगर में एक कुंवारी के पास भेजा गया।

26. Six months after Elizabeth knew she was to become a mother, Gabriel was sent from God to Nazareth. Nazareth was a town in the country of Galilee.

27. जिस की मंगनी यूसुफ नाम दाऊद के घराने के एक पुरूष से हुई थी: उस कुंवारी का नाम मरियम था।

27. He went to a woman who had never had a man. Her name was Mary. She was promised in marriage to a man named Joseph. Joseph was of the family of David.

28. और स्वर्गदूत ने उसके पास भीतर आकर कहा; आनन्द और जय तेरी हो, जिस पर ईश्वर का अनुग्रह हुआ है, प्रभु तेरे साथ है।

28. The angel came to her and said, 'You are honored very much. You are a favored woman. The Lord is with you. *You are chosen from among many women.'

29. वह उस वचन से बहुत घबरा गई, और सोचने लगी, कि यह किस प्रकार का अभिवादन है?

29. When she saw the angel, she was troubled at his words. She thought about what had been said.

30. स्वर्गदूत ने उस से कहा, हे मरियम; भयभीत न हो, क्योंकि परमेश्वर का अनुग्रह तुझ पर हुआ है।

30. The angel said to her, 'Mary, do not be afraid. You have found favor with God.

31. और देख, तू गर्भवती होगी, और तेरे एक पुत्रा उत्पन्न होगा; तू उसका नाम यीशु रखना।

31. See! You are to become a mother and have a Son. You are to give Him the name Jesus.

32. He will be great. He will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give Him the place where His early father David sat.

33. He will be King over the family of Jacob forever and His nation will have no end.'

34. मरियम ने स्वर्गदूत से कहा, यह क्योंकर होगा? मैं तो पुरूष को जानती ही नहीं।

34. Mary said to the angel, 'How will this happen? I have never had a man.'

35. स्वर्गदूत ने उस को उत्तर दिया; कि पवित्रा आत्मा तुझ पर उतरेगा, और परमप्रधान की सामर्थ तुझ पर छाया करेगी इसलिये वह पवित्रा जो उत्पन्न होनेवाला है, परमेश्वर का पुत्रा कहलाएगा।

35. The angel said to her, 'The Holy Spirit will come on you. The power of the Most High will cover you. The holy Child you give birth to will be called the Son of God.

36. और देख, और तेरी कुटुम्बिनी इलीशिबा के भी बुढ़ापे में पुत्रा होनेवाला है, यह उसका, जो बांझ कहलाती थी छठवां महीना है।

36. See, your cousin Elizabeth, as old as she is, is going to give birth to a child. She was not able to have children before, but now she is in her sixth month.

37. क्योंकि जो वचन परमेश्वर की ओर से होता है वह प्रभावरहित नहीं होता।

37. For God can do all things.'

38. मरियम ने कहा, देख, मैं प्रभु की दासी हूं, मुझे तेरे वचन के अनुसार हो: तब स्वर्गदूत उसके पास से चला गया।।

38. Then Mary said, 'I am willing to be used of the Lord. Let it happen to me as you have said.' Then the angel went away from her.

39. उन दिनों में मरियम उठकर शीघ्र ही पहाड़ी देश में यहूदा के एक नगर को गई।

39. At once Mary went from there to a town in the hill country of Judea.

40. और जकरयाह के घर में जाकर इलीशिबा को नमस्कार किया।

40. She went to the house of Zacharias to see Elizabeth.

41. ज्योंही इलीशिबा ने मरियम का नमस्कार सुना, त्योंही बच्चा उसके पेट में उछला, और इलीशिबा पवित्रा आत्मा से परिपूर्ण हो गई।

41. When Elizabeth heard Mary speak, the baby moved in her body. At the same time Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.

42. और उस ने बड़े शब्द से पुकार कर कहा, तू स्त्रियों में धन्य है, और तेरे पेट का फल धन्य है।

42. Elizabeth spoke in a loud voice, 'You are honored among women! Your Child is honored!

43. Why has this happened to me? Why has the mother of my Lord come to me?

44. और देख ज्योंही तेरे नमस्कार का शब्द मेरे कानों में पड़ा त्योंही बच्चा मेरे पेट में आनन्द से उछल पड़ा।

44. As soon as I heard your voice, the baby in my body moved for joy.

45. और धन्य है, वह जिस ने विश्वास किया कि जो बातें प्रभु की ओर से उस से कही गई, वे पूरी होंगी।

45. You are happy because you believed. Everything will happen as the Lord told you it would happen.'

46. तब मरियम ने कहा, मेरा प्राण प्रभु की बड़ाई करता है।

46. Then Mary said, 'My heart sings with thanks for my Lord.

47. और मेरी आत्मा मेरे उद्धार करनेवाले परमेश्वर से आनन्दित हुई।

47. And my spirit is happy in God, the One Who saves from the punishment of sin.

48. क्योंकि उस ने अपनी दासी की दीनता पर दृष्टि की है, इसलिये देखो, अब से सब युग युग के लोग मुझे धन्य कहेंगे।

48. The Lord has looked on me, His servant-girl and one who is not important. But from now on all people will honor me.

49. क्योंकि उस शक्तिमान ने मेरे लिये बड़े बड़े काम किए हैं, और उसका नाम पवित्रा है।

49. He Who is powerful has done great things for me. His name is holy.

50. The loving-kindness of the Lord is given to the people of all times who honor Him.

51. He has done powerful works with His arm. He has divided from each other those who have pride in their hearts.

52. He has taken rulers down from their thrones. He has put those who are in a place that is not important to a place that is important.

53. He has filled those who are hungry with good things. He has sent the rich people away with nothing.

55. He promised He would do this to our early fathers and to Abraham and to his family forever.'

56. Mary stayed with Elizabeth about three months. Then she went to her own home.

57. तब इलीशिबा के जनने का समय पूरा हुआ, और व पुत्रा जनी।

57. When the time came, Elizabeth gave birth to a son.

58. उसके पड़ोसियों और कुटुम्बियों ने यह सुन कर, कि प्रभु ने उस पर बड़ी दया की है, उसके साथ आनन्दित हुए।

58. Her neighbors and family heard how the Lord had shown loving-kindness to her. They were happy for her.

59. और ऐसा हुआ कि आठवें दिन वे बालक का खतना करने आए और उसका नाम उसके पिता के नाम पर जकरयाह रखने लगे।

59. On the eighth day they did the religious act of the Jews on the child. They named him Zacharias, after his father.

60. और उस की माता ने उत्तर दिया कि नहीं; बरन उसका नाम यूहन्ना रखा जाए।

60. But his mother said, 'No! His name is John.'

61. और उन्हों ने उस से कहा, तेरे कुटुम्ब में किसी का यह नाम नहीं।

61. They said to her, 'No one in your family has that name.'

62. तब उन्हों ने उसके पिता से संकेत करके पूछा।

62. Then they talked to his father with their hands to find out what he would name the child.

63. कि तू उसका नाम क्या रखना चाहता है? और उस ने लिखने की पट्टी मंगाकर लिख दिया, कि उसका नाम यूहन्ना है: और सभों ने अचम्भा किया।

63. He asked for something to write on. He wrote, 'His name is John.' They were all surprised and wondered about it.

64. तब उसका मुंह और जीभ तुरन्त खुल गई; और वह बोलने और परमेश्वर का धन्यवाद करने लगा।

64. Zacharias was able to talk from that time on and he gave thanks to God.

65. और उसके आस पास के सब रहनेवालों पर भय छा गया; और उन सब बातों की चर्चा यहूदया के सारे पहाड़ी देश में फैल गई।

65. All those who lived near them were afraid. The news of what had happened was told through all the hill country of Judea.

66. और सब सुननेवालों ने अपने अपने मन में विचार करके कहा, यह बालक कैसा होगा क्योंकि प्रभु का हाथ उसके साथ था।।

66. And all who heard those words remembered them and said, 'What is this child going to be?' For the hand of the Lord was on him.

67. और उसका पिता जकरयाह पवित्रा आत्मा से परिपूर्ण हो गया, और भविष्यद्ववाणी करने लगा।

67. Zacharias, the father of John, was filled with the Holy Spirit. He told what was going to happen, saying,

68. कि प्रभु इस्राएल का परमेश्वर धन्य हो, कि उस ने अपने लोगों पर दृष्टि की और उन का छुटकारा किया है।

68. 'Let us thank the Lord God of Israel. He has bought His people and made them free.

69. He has raised up from the family of David One Who saves people from the punishment of their sins.

70. His holy early preachers told us this long ago.

71. अर्थात् हमारे शत्रुओं से, और हमारे सब बैरियों के हाथ से हमारा उद्धार किया है।

71. God told us that we should be saved from those who hate us and from all those who work against us.

72. He would show loving-kindness to our early fathers. He would remember His holy promise.

73. God promised this to our early father Abraham.

74. He promised that we would be saved from those who hate us and that we might worship Him without being afraid.

75. We can be holy and right with God all the days of our life.

76. और तू हे बालक, परमप्रधान का भविष्यद्वक्ता कहलाएगा, क्योंकि तू प्रभु के मार्ग तैयार करने के लिये उसके आगे आगे चलेगा,

76. And you, my son, will be the one who speaks for the Most High. For you will go before the Lord to make the way ready for Him.

77. कि उसके लोगों को उद्धार का ज्ञान दे, जो उन के पापों की क्षमा से प्राप्त होता है।

77. You will tell His people how to be saved from the punishment of sin by being forgiven of their sins.

78. यह हमारे परमेश्वर की उसी बड़ी करूणा से होगा; जिस के कारण ऊपर से हम पर भोर का प्रकाश उदय होगा।

78. Because the heart of our God is full of loving-kindness for us, a light from heaven will shine on us.

79. कि अन्धकार और मृत्यु की छाया में बैठनेवालों को ज्योति दे, और हमारे पांवों को कुशल के मार्ग में सीधे चलाए।।

79. It will give light to those who live in darkness and are under the shadow of death. It will lead our feet in the way of peace.'

80. और वह बालक बढ़ता और आत्मा में बलवन्त होता गया, और इस्राएल पर प्रगट होने के दिन तक जंगलों में रहा।

80. The child grew and became strong in spirit. He lived in a desert until the day he started to preach to the Jews.
