1. तब परमेश्वर ने ये सब वचन कहे,

1. God spoke, and these were his words:

2. कि मै तेरा परमेश्वर यहोवा हूं, जो तुझे दासत्व के घर अर्थात् मि देश से निकाल लाया है।।

2. 'I am the LORD your God who brought you out of Egypt, where you were slaves.

3. तू मुझे छोड़ दूसरों को ईश्वर करके न मानना।।

3. 'Worship no god but me.

4. तू अपने लिये कोई मूर्ति खोदकर न बनाना, न किसी कि प्रतिमा बनाना, जो आकाश में, वा पृथ्वी पर, वा पृथ्वी के जल में है।

4. 'Do not make for yourselves images of anything in heaven or on earth or in the water under the earth.

5. तू उनको दण्डवत् न करना, और न उनकी उपासना करना; क्योंकि मै तेरा परमेश्वर यहोवा जलन रखने वाला ईश्वर हूं, और जो मुझ से बैर रखते है, उनके बेटों, पोतों, और परपोतों को भी पितरों का दण्ड दिया करता हूं,

5. Do not bow down to any idol or worship it, because I am the LORD your God and I tolerate no rivals. I bring punishment on those who hate me and on their descendants down to the third and fourth generation.

6. और जो मुझ से प्रेम रखते और मेरी आज्ञाओं को मानते हैं, उन हजारों पर करूणा किया करता हूं।।

6. But I show my love to thousands of generations of those who love me and obey my laws.

7. तू अपने परमेश्वर का नाम व्यर्थ न लेना; क्योंकि जो यहोवा का नाम व्यर्थ ले वह उसको निर्दोष न ठहराएगा।।

7. 'Do not use my name for evil purposes, for I, the LORD your God, will punish anyone who misuses my name.

9. You have six days in which to do your work,

10. परन्तु सातवां दिन तेरे परमेश्वर यहोवा के लिये विश्रामदिन है। उस में न तो तू किसी भांति का काम काज करना, और न तेरा बेटा, न तेरी बेटी, न तेरा दास, न तेरी दासी, न तेरे पशु, न कोई परदेशी जो तेरे फाटकों के भीतर हो।

10. but the seventh day is a day of rest dedicated to me. On that day no one is to work---neither you, your children, your slaves, your animals, nor the foreigners who live in your country.

11. क्योंकि छ: दिन में यहोवा ने आकाश, और पृथ्वी, और समुद्र, और जो कुछ उन में है, सब को बनाया, और सातवें दिन विश्राम किया; इस कारण यहोवा ने विश्रामदिन को आशीष दी और उसको पवित्रा ठहराया।।

11. In six days I, the LORD, made the earth, the sky, the seas, and everything in them, but on the seventh day I rested. That is why I, the LORD, blessed the Sabbath and made it holy.

12. 'Respect your father and your mother, so that you may live a long time in the land that I am giving you.

13. 'Do not commit murder.

14. तू व्यभिचार न करना।।

14. 'Do not commit adultery.

15. तू चोरी न करना।।

15. 'Do not steal.

16. तू किसी के विरूद्ध झूठी साक्षी न देना।।

16. 'Do not accuse anyone falsely.

17. तू किसी के घर का लालच न करना; न तो किसी की स्त्री का लालच करना, और न किसी के दास- दासी, वा बैल गदहे का, न किसी की किसी वस्तु का लालच करना।।

17. 'Do not desire another man's house; do not desire his wife, his slaves, his cattle, his donkeys, or anything else that he owns.'

18. और सब लोग गरजने और बिजली और नरसिंगे के शब्द सुनते, और धुआं उठते हुए पर्वत को देखते रहे, और देखके, कांपकर दूर खड़े हो गए;

18. When the people heard the thunder and the trumpet blast and saw the lightning and the smoking mountain, they trembled with fear and stood a long way off.

19. और वे मूसा से कहने लगे, तू ही हम से बातें कर, तब तो हम सुन सकेंगे; परन्तु परमेश्वर हम से बातें न करे, ऐसा न हो कि हम मर जाएं।

19. They said to Moses, 'If you speak to us, we will listen; but we are afraid that if God speaks to us, we will die.'

20. मूसा ने लोगों से कहा, डरो मत; क्योंकि परमेश्वर इस निमित्त आया है कि तुम्हारी परीक्षा करे, और उसका भय तुम्हारे मन में बना रहे, कि तुम पाप न करो।

20. Moses replied, 'Don't be afraid; God has only come to test you and make you keep on obeying him, so that you will not sin.'

21. और वे लोग तो दूर ही खड़े रहे, परन्तु मूसा उस घोर अन्धकार के समीप गया जहां परमेश्वर था।।

21. But the people continued to stand a long way off, and only Moses went near the dark cloud where God was.

22. तब यहोवा ने मूसा से कहा, तू इस्त्राएलियों को मेरे ये वचन सुना, कि तुम लोगों ने तो आप ही देखा है कि मै ने तुम्हारे साथ आकाश से बातें की हैं।

22. The LORD commanded Moses to tell the Israelites: 'You have seen how I, the LORD, have spoken to you from heaven.

23. तुम मेरे साथ किसी को सम्मिलित न करना, अर्थात् अपने लिये चान्दी वा सोने से देवताओं को न गढ़ लेना।

23. Do not make for yourselves gods of silver or gold to be worshiped in addition to me.

24. मेरे लिये मिट्टी की एक वेदी बनाना, और अपनी भेड़- बकरियों और गाय- बैलों के होमबलि और मेलबलि को उस पर चढ़ाना; जहां जहां मैं अपने नाम का स्मरण कराऊं वहां वहां मैं आकर तुम्हें आशीष दूंगा।

24. Make an altar of earth for me, and on it sacrifice your sheep and your cattle as offerings to be completely burned and as fellowship offerings. In every place that I set aside for you to worship me, I will come to you and bless you.

25. और यदि तुम मेरे लिये पत्थरों की वेदी बनाओ, तो तराशे हुए पत्थरों से न बनाना; क्योंकि जहां तुम ने उस पर अपना हथियार लगाया वहां तू उसे अशुद्ध कर देगा।

25. If you make an altar of stone for me, do not build it out of cut stones, because when you use a chisel on stones, you make them unfit for my use.

26. और मेरी वेदी पर सीढ़ी से कभी न चढ़ना, कहीं ऐसा न हो कि तेरा तन उस पर नंगा देख पड़े।।

26. Do not build an altar for me with steps leading up to it; if you do, you will expose yourselves as you go up the steps.
