1. धन्य है यहोवा, जो मेरी चट्टान है, वह मेरे हाथों को लड़ने, और युद्ध करने के लिये तैयार करता है।

1. [A Psalm] of David. BLESSED BE the Lord, my Rock and my keen and firm Strength, Who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight--

2. वह मेरे लिये करूणानिधान और गढ़, ऊंचा स्थान और छुड़ानेवाला है, वह मेरी ढ़ाल और शरणस्थान है, जो मेरी प्रजा को मेरे वश में कर देता है।।

2. My Steadfast Love and my Fortress, my High Tower and my Deliverer, my Shield and He in Whom I trust and take refuge, Who subdues my people under me.

3. हे यहोवा, मनुष्य क्या है कि तू उसकी सुधि लेता है, या आदमी क्या है, कि तू उसकी कुछ चिन्ता करता है?

3. Lord, what is man that You take notice of him? Or [the] son of man that You take account of him? [Job 7:17; Ps. 8:4; Heb. 2:6.]

4. मनुष्य तो सांस के समान है; उसके दिन ढलती हुई छाया के समान हैं।।

4. Man is like vanity and a breath; his days are as a shadow that passes away.

5. हे यहोवा, अपने स्वर्ग को नीचा करके उतर आ! पहाड़ों को छू तब उन से धुंआं उठेंगा!

5. Bow Your heavens, O Lord, and come down; touch the mountains, and they shall smoke.

6. बिजली कड़काकर उनके तितर बितर कर दे, अपने तीर चलाकर उनको घबरा दे!

6. Cast forth lightning and scatter [my enemies]; send out Your arrows and embarrass and frustrate them.

7. अपने हाथ ऊपर से बढ़ाकर मुझे महासागर से उबार, अर्थात् परदेशियों के वश से छुड़ा।

7. Stretch forth Your hand from above; rescue me and deliver me out of great waters, from the hands of hostile aliens (tribes around us)

8. उनके मुंह से तो व्यर्थ बातें निकलती हैं, और उनके दहिने हाथ से धोखे के काम होते हैं।।

8. Whose mouths speak deceit and whose right hands are right hands [raised in taking] fraudulent oaths.

9. हे परमेश्वर, मैं तेरी स्तुति का नया गीत गाऊंगा; मैं दस तारवाली सारंगी बजाकर तेरा भजन गाऊंगा।

9. I will sing a new song to You, O God; upon a harp, an instrument of ten strings, will I offer praises to You.

10. तू राजाओं का उद्धार करता है, और अपने दास दाऊद को तलवार की मार से बचाता है।

10. You are He Who gives salvation to kings, Who rescues David His servant from the hurtful sword [of evil].

11. तू मुझ को उबार और परदेशियों के वश से छुड़ा ले, जिन के मुंह से व्यर्थ बातें निकलती हैं, और जिनका दहिना हाथ झूठ का दहिना हाथ है।।

11. Rescue me and deliver me out of the power of [hostile] alien [tribes] whose mouths speak deceit and whose right hands are right hands [raised in taking] fraudulent oaths.

12. जब हमारे बेटे जवानी के समय पौधों की नाईं बढ़े हुए हों, और हमारी बेटियां उन कोनेवाले पत्थरों के समान हों, जो मन्दिर के पत्थरों की नाईं बनाए जाएं;

12. When our sons shall be as plants grown large in their youth and our daughters as sculptured corner pillars hewn like those of a palace;

13. जब हमारे खत्ते भरे रहें, और उन में भांति भांति का अन्न धरा जाए, और हमारी भेड़- बकरियों हमारे मैदानों में हजारों हजार बच्चे जनें;

13. When our garners are full, affording all manner of store, and our sheep bring forth thousands and ten thousands in our pastures;

14. जब हमारे बैल खूब लदे हुए हों; जब हमें न विध्न हो और न हमारा कहीं जाना हो, और न हमारे चौकों में रोना- पीटना हो,

14. When our oxen are well loaded; when there is no invasion [of hostile armies] and no going forth [against besiegers--when there is no murder or manslaughter] and no outcry in our streets;

15. तो इस दशा में जो राज्य हो वह क्या ही धन्य होगा! जिस राज्य का परमेश्वर यहोवा है, वह क्या ही धन्य है!

15. Happy and blessed are the people who are in such a case; yes, happy (blessed, fortunate, prosperous, to be envied) are the people whose God is the Lord!
