1. फिर जिस समय राजा लोग युठ्ठ करने को निकला करते हैं, उस समय, अर्थात् वर्ष के आरम्भ में दाऊद ने योआब को, और उसके संग अपने सेवकों और समस्त इस्राएलियों को भेजा; और उन्हों ने अम्मोनियों को नाश किया, और रब्बा नगर को घेर लिया। परन्तु दाऊद सरूशलेम में रह गया।

1. And it came to pass, after the year was expired, at the time when kings go forth [to battle], that David sent Joab and his servants with him and all Israel, and they destroyed the sons of Ammon and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried still at Jerusalem.

2. सांझ के समय दाऊद पलंग पर से उठकर राजभवन की छत पर टहल रहा था, और छत पर से उसको एक स्त्री, जो अति सुन्दर थी, नहाती हुई देख पड़ी।

2. And it came to pass one evening, that David arose from off his bed and walked upon the roof of the king's house, and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself, and the woman [was] very beautiful to look upon.

3. जब दाऊद ने भेजकर उस स्त्री को पुछवाया, तब किसी ने कहा, क्या यह एलीआम की बेटी, और हित्तद्दी ऊरिरयाह की पत्नी बतशेबा नहीं है?

3. And David sent and enquired after the woman. And [one] said, [Is] not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah, the Hittite?

4. तब दाऊद ने दूत भेजकर उसे बुलवा लिया; और वह दाऊद के पास आई, और वह उसके साथ सोया। ( वह तो ऋतु से शुठ्ठ हो गई थी ) तब वह अपने घर लौट गई।

4. And David sent messengers and took her, and she came in unto him, and he lay with her. Then she purified herself from her uncleanness, and she returned unto her house.

5. और वह स्त्री गर्भवती हुई, तब दाऊद के पास कहला भेजा, कि मुझे गर्भ है।

5. And the woman conceived and sent and told David and said, I [am] with child.

6. तब दाऊद ने योआब के पास कहला भेजा, कि हित्ती ऊरिरयाह को मेरे पास भेज, तब योआब ने ऊरिरयाह को दाऊद के पास भेज दिया।

6. Then David sent to Joab, [saying], Send me Uriah the Hittite. And Joab sent Uriah to David.

7. जब ऊरिरयाह उसके पास आया, तब दाऊद ने उस से योआब और सेना का कुशल क्षेम और युठ्ठ का हाल पूछा।

7. And when Uriah had come unto him, David asked [him] how Joab was and how the people were and how the war prospered.

8. तब दाऊद ने ऊरिरयाह से कहा, अपने घर जाकर अपने पांव धो। और ऊरिरयाह राजभवन से निकला, और उसके पीछे राजा के पास से कुछ इनाम भेजा गया।

8. And David said to Uriah, Go down to thy house and wash thy feet. And Uriah departed out of the king's house, and royal food was sent unto him.

9. परन्तु ऊरिरयाह अपते स्वामी के सब सेवकों के संग राजभवन के द्वार में लेट गया, और अपने घर न गया।

9. But Uriah slept at the door of the king's house with all the servants of his lord and did not go down to his house.

10. जब दाऊद को यह समाचार मिला, कि ऊरिरयाह अपने घर नहीं गया, तब दाऊद ने ऊरिरयाह से कहा, क्या तू यात्रा करके नहीं आया? तो अपने घर क्यों नहीं गया?

10. And when they had told David, saying, Uriah did not go down unto his house, David said unto Uriah, Didst thou not come from [thy] journey? Why [then] didst thou not go down to thy house?

11. ऊरिरयाह ने दाऊद से कहा, जब सनदूक और इस्राएल और यहूदा झोपड़ियों में रहते हैं, और मेरा स्वामी योआब और मेरे स्वामी के सेवक खुले मैदान पर डेरे डाले हुए हैं, तो क्या मैं घर जाकर खाऊं, पीऊं, और अपनी पत्नी के साथ सोऊं? तेरे जीवन की शपथ, और तेरे प्राण की शपथ, कि मैं ऐसा काम नहीं करने का।

11. And Uriah said unto David, The ark and Israel and Judah abide in tents, and my lord Joab and the servants of my lord, are encamped in the open fields; shall I then go into my house, to eat and to drink and to lie with my wife? [By thy] life and [by] the life of thy soul, I will not do this thing.

12. दाऊद ने ऊरिरयाह से कहा, आज यहीं रह, और कल मैं तुझे विदा करूंगा। इसलिये ऊरिरयाह उस दिन और दूसरे दिन भी यरूशलेम में रहा।

12. And David said to Uriah, Tarry here today also, and tomorrow I will let thee depart. So Uriah abode in Jerusalem that day and the next day.

13. तब दाऊद ने उसे नेवता दिया, और उस ने उसके साम्हने खाया पिया, और उसी ने उसे मतवाला किया; और सांझ काो वह अपने स्वामी के सेवकों के संग अपनी चारपाई पर सोने को निकला, परन्तु अपने घर न गया।

13. And when David had called him, he ate and drank before him, and he made him drunk; and in the evening he went out to lie on his bed with the servants of his lord but did not go down to his house.

14. बिहान को दाऊद ने योआब के नाम पर एक चिट्ठी लिखकर ऊरिरयाह के हाथ से भेजदी।

14. And it came to pass in the morning, that David wrote a letter to Joab and sent [it] by the hand of Uriah.

15. उस चिट्ठी में यह लिखा था, कि सब से घोर युद्ध के साम्हने ऊरिरयाह को रखना, तब उसे छोडकर लौट आबो, कि वह घायल हो कर मर जाए।

15. And he wrote in the letter, saying, Set Uriah in the forefront of the hottest battle and retire from him, that he may be smitten and die.

16. और योआब ने नगर को अच्छी रीति से देख भालकर जिस स्थान में वह जानता था कि वीर हैं, उसी में ऊरिरयाह को ठहरा दिया।

16. And it came to pass, when Joab observed the city, that he assigned Uriah unto a place where he knew that the most valiant men [were].

17. तब नगर के पुरूषों ने निकलकर योआब से युद्ध किया, और लागों में से, अर्थात् दाऊद के सेवकों में से कितने खेत आए; और उन में हित्ती ऊरिरयह भी मर गया।

17. And the men of the city came out and fought with Joab, and [some] of the people of the servants of David fell, and Uriah the Hittite died also.

18. तब योआब ने भेजकर दाऊद को युद्ध का पूरा हाल बताया;

18. Then Joab sent and told David all the things concerning the war

19. और दूत को आज्ञा दी, कि जब तू युद्धका पूरा हाल राजा को बता चुके,

19. and charged the messenger, saying, When thou hast finished telling the matters of the war unto the king,

20. तब यदि राजा जलकर कहने लगे, कि तुम लाग लड़ने को नगर के ऐसे निकट क्यों गए? क्या तुम न जानते थे कि वे शहरपनाह पर से तीर छोड़ेंगे?

20. and if the king begins to be angry and he should say unto thee, Why did you approach so near unto the city when ye fought? Did ye not know that which they can throw down from the wall?

21. यरूब्बेशेत के पुत्रा अबीमेलेक को किसने मार डाला? क्या एक स्त्री ने शहरपनाह पर से चक्की का उपरला पाट उस पर ऐसा न डाला कि वह तेबेस में मर गया? फिर तुम हाहरपनाह के एसे निकट क्यों गए? तो तू यों कहना, कि तेरा दास ऊरिरयाह हित्ती भी मर गया।

21. Who smote Abimelech, the son of Jerubbesheth? Did not a woman cast a piece of a millstone upon him from the wall, that he died in Thebez? Why did you go near the wall? Then thou shalt say, Thy servant Uriah, the Hittite, is dead also.

22. तब दूत चल दिया, और जाकर दाऊद से योआब की सब बातें चर्णन कीं।

22. So the messenger went and came and told David all that Joab had sent him for.

23. दूत ने दाऊद से कहा, कि वे लोग हम पर प्रबल होकर मैदान में हमारे पास निकल आए, फिर हम ने उन्हें फाटक तक खदेड़ा।

23. And the messenger said unto David, Surely the men prevailed against us and came out unto us into the field, and we made them retreat unto the entering of the gate.

24. तब धनुर्धारियों ने शहरपनाह पर से तेरे जनों पर तीर छोड़े; और राजा के कितने जन मर गए, और तेरा दास ऊरिरयाह हित्ती भी मर गया।

24. And the archers shot from off the wall upon thy servants, and [some] of the king's servants are dead, and thy servant Uriah, the Hittite, is dead also.

25. दाऊद ने दूत से कहा, योआब से यों कहना, कि इस बात के कारण उदास न हो, क्योंकि तलवार जैसे इसको वैसे उसको नाश करती है; तो तू नगर के विरूद्ध अधिक दृढ़ता से लड़कर उसे उलट दे। और तू उसे हियाव बन्धा।

25. Then David said unto the messenger, Thus shalt thou say unto Joab, Let not this thing displease thee, for the sword devours one as well as another; strengthen the battle against the city until it is overthrown and encourage thou him.

26. जब ऊरिरयाह की स्त्री ने सुना कि मेरा पति मर गया, तब वह अपने पति के लिये रोने पीटते लगी।

26. And when the wife of Uriah heard that Uriah, her husband, was dead, she mourned for her husband.

27. और जब उसके विलाप के दिन बीत चुके, तब दाऊद ने उसे बुलवाकर अपने घर में रख लिया, और वह उसकी पत्नी हो गई, और उसके पुत्रा उत्पन्न हुआ। परन्तु उस काम से जो दाऊद ने किया था यहोवा क्रोधित हुआ।

27. And when the mourning was past, David sent and brought her to his house, and she became his wife and gave birth to a son unto him. But the thing that David had done displeased the LORD.:
