1. यों आकाश और पृथ्वी और उनकी सारी सेना का बनाना समाप्त हो गया।

1. THUS THE heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.

2. और परमेश्वर ने अपना काम जिसे वह करता था सातवें दिन समाप्त किया। और उस ने अपने किए हुए सारे काम से सातवें दिन विश्राम किया।

2. And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done; and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. [Heb. 4:9, 10.]

3. और परमेश्वर ने सातवें दिन को आशीष दी और पवित्रा ठहराया; क्योंकि उस में उस ने अपनी सृष्टि की रचना के सारे काम से विश्राम लिया।

3. And God blessed (spoke good of) the seventh day, set it apart as His own, and hallowed it, because on it God rested from all His work which He had created and done. [Exod. 20:11.]

4. आकाश और पृथ्वी की उत्पत्ति का वृत्तान्त यह है कि जब वे उत्पन्न हुए अर्थात् जिस दिन यहोवा परमेश्वर ने पृथ्वी और आकाश को बनाया:

4. This is the history of the heavens and of the earth when they were created. In the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens--

5. तब मैदान का कोई पौधा भूमि पर न था, और न मैदान का कोई छोटा पेड़ उगा था, क्योंकि यहोवा परमेश्वर ने पृथ्वी पर जल नहीं बरसाया था, और भूमि पर खेती करने के लिये मनुष्य भी नहीं था;

5. When no plant of the field was yet in the earth and no herb of the field had yet sprung up, for the Lord God had not [yet] caused it to rain upon the earth and there was no man to till the ground,

6. तौभी कुहरा पृथ्वी से उठता था जिस से सारी भूमि सिंच जाती थी

6. But there went up a mist (fog, vapor) from the land and watered the whole surface of the ground--

7. और यहोवा परमेश्वर ने आदम को भूमि की मिट्टी से रचा और उसके नथनो में जीवन का श्वास फूंक दिया; और आदम जीवता प्राणी बन गया।

7. Then the Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath or spirit of life, and man became a living being. [I Cor. 15:45-49.]

8. और यहोवा परमेश्वर ने पूर्व की ओर अदन देश में एक बाटिका लगाई; और वहां आदम को जिसे उस ने रचा था, रख दिया।

8. And the Lord God planted a garden toward the east, in Eden [delight]; and there He put the man whom He had formed (framed, constituted).

9. और यहोवा परमेश्वर ने भूमि से सब भांति के वृक्ष, जो देखने में मनोहर और जिनके फल खाने में अच्छे हैं उगाए, और बाटिका के बीच में जीवन के वृक्ष को और भले या बुरे के ज्ञान के वृक्ष को भी लगाया।

9. And out of the ground the Lord God made to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight or to be desired--good (suitable, pleasant) for food; the tree of life also in the center of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of [the difference between] good and evil and blessing and calamity. [Rev. 2:7; 22:14, 19.]

10. और उस बाटिका को सींचने के लिये एक महानदी अदन से निकली और वहां से आगे बहकर चार धारा में हो गई।

10. Now a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from there it divided and became four [river] heads.

11. पहिली धारा का नाम पीशोन् है, यह वही है जो हवीला नाम के सारे देश को जहां सोना मिलता है घेरे हुए है।

11. The first is named Pishon; it is the one flowing around the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold.

12. उस देश का सोना चोखा होता है, वहां मोती और सुलैमानी पत्थर भी मिलते हैं।

12. The gold of that land is of high quality; bdellium (pearl?) and onyx stone are there.

13. और दूसरी नदी का नाम गीहोन् है, यह वही है जो कूश के सारे देश को घेरे हुए है।

13. The second river is named Gihon; it is the one flowing around the whole land of Cush.

14. और तीसरी नदी का नाम हि :केल् है, यह वही है जो अश्शूर् के पूर्व की ओर बहती है। और चौथी नदी का नाम फरात है।

14. The third river is named Hiddekel [the Tigris]; it is the one flowing east of Assyria. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.

15. जब यहोवा परमेश्वर ने आदम को लेकर अदन की बाटिका में रख दिया, कि वह उस में काम करे और उसकी रक्षा करे,

15. And the Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to tend and guard and keep it.

16. तब यहोवा परमेश्वर ने आदम को यह आज्ञा दी, कि तू बाटिका के सब वृक्षों का फल बिना खटके खा सकता है:

16. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, You may freely eat of every tree of the garden;

17. पर भले या बुरे के ज्ञान का जो वृक्ष है, उसका फल तू कभी न खाना : क्योंकि जिस दिन तू उसका फल खाए उसी दिन अवश्य मर जाएगा।।
रोमियों 5:12

17. But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and blessing and calamity you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.

18. फिर यहोवा परमेश्वर ने कहा, आदम का अकेला रहना अच्छा नहीं; मै उसके लिये एक ऐसा सहायक बनाऊंगा जो उस से मेल खाए।

18. Now the Lord God said, It is not good (sufficient, satisfactory) that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper meet (suitable, adapted, complementary) for him.

19. और यहोवा परमेश्वर भूमि में से सब जाति के बनैले पशुओं, और आकाश के सब भँाति के पक्षियों को रचकर आदम के पास ले आया कि देखे, कि वह उनका क्या क्या नाम रखता है; और जिस जिस जीवित प्राणी का जो जो नाम आदम ने रखा वही उसका नाम हो गया।

19. And out of the ground the Lord God formed every [wild] beast and living creature of the field and every bird of the air and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them; and whatever Adam called every living creature, that was its name.

20. सो आदम ने सब जाति के घरेलू पशुओं, और आकाश के पक्षियों, और सब जाति के बनैले पशुओं के नाम रखे; परन्तु आदम के लिये कोई ऐसा सहायक न मिला जो उस से मेल खा सके।

20. And Adam gave names to all the livestock and to the birds of the air and to every [wild] beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found a helper meet (suitable, adapted, complementary) for him.

21. तब यहोवा परमेश्वर ने आदम को भारी नीन्द में डाल दिया, और जब वह सो गया तब उस ने उसकी एक पसुली निकालकर उसकी सन्ती मांस भर दिया।
1 कुरिन्थियों 11:8

21. And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam; and while he slept, He took one of his ribs or a part of his side and closed up the [place with] flesh.

22. और यहोवा परमेश्वर ने उस पसुली को जो उस ने आदम में से निकाली थी, स्त्री बना दिया; और उसको आदम के पास ले आया।
1 तीमुथियुस 2:13

22. And the rib or part of his side which the Lord God had taken from the man He built up and made into a woman, and He brought her to the man.

23. और आदम ने कहा अब यह मेरी हडि्डयों में की हड्डी और मेरे मांस में का मांस है : सो इसका नाम नारी होगा, क्योंकि यह नर में से निकाली गई है।

23. Then Adam said, This [creature] is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of a man.

24. इस कारण पुरूष अपने माता पिता को छोड़कर अपनी पत्नी से मिला रहेगा और वे एक तन बनें रहेंगे।

24. Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and shall become united and cleave to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. [Matt. 19:5; I Cor. 6:16; Eph. 5:31-33.]

25. और आदम और उसकी पत्नी दोनों नंगे थे, पर लजाते न थे।।

25. And the man and his wife were both naked and were not embarrassed or ashamed in each other's presence.
