1. जब एप्रैम बोलता था, तब लोग कांपते थे; और जब इस्राएल में बड़ा था; परन्तु जब वह बाल के कारण दोषी हो गया, तब वह मर गया।

2. और अब वे लोग पाप पर पाप बढ़ाते जाते हैं, और अपनी बुद्धि से चान्दी ढालकर ऐसी मूरतें बनाई हैं जो कारीगरों ही से बनीं। उन्हीं के विषय लोग कहते हैं, जो नरमेघ करें, वे बछड़ों को चूमें!

2. And now they're back in the sin business again, manufacturing god-images they can use, Religion customized to taste. Professionals see to it: Anything you want in a god you can get. Can you believe it? They sacrifice live babies to these dead gods-- kill living babies and kiss golden calves!

3. इस कारण वे भोर के मेघ, तड़के सूख जानेवाली ओस, खलिहान पर से आंधी के मारे उड़नेवाली भूसी, या चिमनी से निकलते हुए धूएं के समान होंगे।।

3. And now there's nothing left to these people: hollow men, desiccated women, Like scraps of paper blown down the street, like smoke in a gusty wind.

6. परन्तु जब इस्राएली चराए जाते थे और वे तृप्त हो गए, तब तृप्त होने पर उनका मन घमण्ड से भर गया; इस कारण वे मुझ को भूल गए।

6. I took care of you, took care of all your needs, gave you everything you needed. You were spoiled. You thought you didn't need me. You forgot me.

7. सो मैं उनके लिये सिंह सा बना हूं; मैं चीते की नाईं उनके मार्ग में घात लगाए रहूंगा।

7. 'I'll charge them like a lion, like a leopard stalking in the brush.

8. मैं बच्चे छीनी हुई रीछनी के समान बनकर उनको मिलूंगा, और उनके हृदय की झिल्ली को फाडूंगा, और सिंह की नाईं उनको वहीं खा डालूंगा, जैसे बन- पशु उनको फाड़ डाले।।

8. I'll jump them like a sow grizzly robbed of her cubs. I'll rip out their guts. Coyotes will make a meal of them. Crows will clean their bones.

9. हे इस्राएल, तेरे विनाश का कारण यह है, कि तू मेरा अर्थात् अपने सहायक का विरोधी है।

10. अब तेरा राजा कहां रहा कि तेरे सब नगरों में वह तुझे बचाए? और तेरे न्यायी कहां रहे, जिनके विषय में तू ने कहा था कि मेरे लिये राजा और हाकिम ठहरा दें?

10. Where is your trusty king you thought would save you? Where are all the local leaders you wanted so badly? All these rulers you insisted on having, demanding, 'Give me a king! Give me leaders!'?

11. मैं ने क्रोध में आकर तेरे लिये राजा बनाये, और फिर जलजलाहट में आकर उनको हटा भी दिया।

11. Well, long ago I gave you a king, but I wasn't happy about it. Now, fed up, I've gotten rid of him.

12. एप्रैम का अधर्म गठा हुआ है, उनका पाप संचय किया हुआ है।

12. I have a detailed record of your infidelities-- Ephraim's sin documented and stored in a safe-deposit box.

13. उसको जच्चा की सी पीड़ाए उठेंगी, परन्तु वह निर्बुद्धि लड़का है जो जन्म के समय ठीक से नहीं आता।

13. 'When birth pangs signaled it was time to be born, Ephraim was too stupid to come out of the womb. When the passage into life opened up, he didn't show.

14. मैं उसको अधोलोक के वश से छुड़ा लूंगा और मृत्यु से उसको छुटकारा दूंगा। हे मृत्यु, तेरी मारने की शक्ति कहां रही? हे अधोलोक, तेरी नाश करने की शक्ति कहां रहीं? मैं फिर कभी नहीं पछताऊंगा।।

15. चाहे वह अपने भाइयों से अधिक फूलें- फलें, तौभी पुरवाई उस पर चलेगी, और यहोवा की ओर से मरूस्थल से आएगी, और उसका कुण्ड सूखेगा; और उसका सोता निर्जन हो जाएगा। उसकी रखी हुई सब मनभावनी वस्तुएं वह लूट ले जाएगा।

15. Even though Ephraim ran wild, the black sheep of the family. 'GOD's tornado is on its way, roaring out of the desert. It will devastate the country, leaving a trail of ruin and wreckage. The cities will be gutted, dear possessions gone for good.

16. सामरिया दोषी ठहरेगा, क्योंकि उस ने अपने परमेश्वर से बलवा किया है; वे तलवार से मारे जाएंगे, उनके बच्चे पटके जाएंगे, और उनकी गर्भवती स्त्रियां चीर डालीं जाएंगी।।

16. Now Samaria has to face the charges because she has rebelled against her God: Her people will be killed, babies smashed on the rocks, pregnant women ripped open.'
