1. जब रहूबियाम यरूशलेम को आया, तब उस ने यहूदा और बिन्यामीन के घराने को जो मिलकर एक लाख अस्सी हजार अच्छे योठ्ठा थे इकट्ठा किया, कि इस्राएल के साथ युठ्ठ करें जिस से राज्य रहूबियाम के वश में फिर आ जाए।

1. When Rechav`am was come to Yerushalayim, he assembled the house of Yehudah and Binyamin, one hundred eighty thousand chosen men, who were warriors, to fight against Yisra'el, to bring the kingdom again to Rechav`am.

2. तब यहोवा का यह वचन परमेश्वर के भक्त शमायाह के पास पहुंचा,

2. But the word of the LORD came to Shemayah the man of God, saying,

3. कि यहूदा के राजा सुलैमान के पुत्रा रहूबियाम से और यहूदा और बिन्यामीन के सब इस्राएलियों से कह,

3. Speak to Rechav`am the son of Shlomo, king of Yehudah, and to all Yisra'el in Yehudah and Binyamin, saying,

4. यहोवा यों कहता है, कि अपने भाइयों पर चढ़ाई करके युठ्ठ न करो। तुम अपने अपने घर लौट जाओ, क्योंकि यह बात मेरी ही ओर से हुई है। यहोवा के ये वचन मानकर, वे यारोबाम पर बिना चढ़ाई किए लौट गए।

4. Thus says the LORD, You shall not go up, nor fight against your brothers: return every man to his house; for this thing is of me. So they listened to the words of the LORD, and returned from going against Yarov`am.

5. सो रहूबियाम यरूशलेम में रहने लगा, और यहूदा में बचाव के लिये ये नगर दृढ़ किए,

5. Rechav`am lived in Yerushalayim, and built cities for defense in Yehudah.

6. अर्थात् बेतलेहेम, एताम, तकोआ,

6. He built Beit-Lechem, and `Etam, and Tekoa,

7. बेत्सूर, सोको, अदुल्लाम।

7. Beit-Tzur, and Sokho, and `Adullam,

8. गत, मारेशा, जीप।

8. and Gat, and Mareshah, and Zif,

9. अदोरैम, लाकीश, अजेका।

9. and Adorayim, and Lakhish, and `Azeka,

10. सोरा, अरयालोत और हेब्रोन जो यहूदा और बिन्यामीन में हैं, दृढ़ किया।

10. and Tzor`ah, and Ayalon, and Hevron, which are in Yehudah and in Binyamin, fortified cities.

11. और उस ने दृढ़ नगरों को और भी दृढ़ करके उन में प्रधान ठहराए, और भोजन वस्तु और तेल और दाखमधु के भणडार रखवा दिए।

11. He fortified the strongholds, and put captains in them, and stores of food, and oil and wine.

12. फिर एक एक नगर में उस ने ढालें और भाले रखवाकर उनको अत्यन्त दृढ़ कर दिया। यहूदा और बिन्यामीन तो उसके थे।

12. In every city he put shields and spears, and made them exceeding strong. Yehudah and Binyamin belonged to him.

13. और सारे इस्राएल के याजक और लेवीय भी अपने सब देश से उठकर उसके पास गए।

13. The Kohanim and the Levites who were in all Yisra'el resorted to him out of all their border.

14. यों लेवीय अपनी चराइयों और निज भूमि छोड़कर, यहूदा और यरूशलेम में आए, क्योंकि यारोबाम और उसके पुत्रों ने उनको निकाल दिया था कि वे यहोवा के लिये याजक का काम न करें।

14. For the Levites left their suburbs and their possession, and came to Yehudah and Yerushalayim: for Yarov`am and his sons cast them off, that they should not execute the Kohen's office to the LORD;

15. और उस ने ऊंचे स्थानों और बकरों और अपने बनाए हुए बछड़ों के लिये, अपनी ओर से याजक ठहरा लिए।

15. and he appointed him Kohanim for the high places, and for the male goats, and for the calves which he had made.

16. और लेवियों के बाद इस्राएल के सब गोत्रों में से जितने मन लगाकर इस्राएल के परमेश्वर यहोवा के खोजी थे वे अपने पितरों के परमेश्वर यहोवा को बलि चढ़ाने के लिये यरूशलेम को आए।

16. After them, out of all the tribes of Yisra'el, such as set their hearts to seek the LORD, the God of Yisra'el, came to Yerushalayim to sacrifice to the LORD, the God of their fathers.

17. और उन्हों ने यहूदा का राज्य स्थिर किया और सुलैमान के पुत्रा रहूबियाम को तीन वर्ष तक दृढ़ कराया, क्योंकि तीन वर्ष तक वे दाऊद और सुलैमान की लीक पर चलते रहे।

17. So they strengthened the kingdom of Yehudah, and made Rechav`am the son of Shlomo strong, three years; for they walked three years in the way of David and Shlomo.

18. और रहूबियाम ने एक स्त्री को ब्याह लिया, अर्थात् महलत को जिसका पिता दाऊद का पुत्रा यरीमोत और माता यिशै के पुत्रा एलीआब की बेटी अबीहैल थी।

18. Rechav`am took him a wife, Machalat the daughter of Yerimot the son of David, and of Avichayil the daughter of Eli'av the son of Yishai;

19.

19. and she bore him sons: Ye`ush, and Shemaryahu, and Zaham.

20. और उस से यूश, शमर्याह और जाहम नाम पुत्रा उत्पन्न हुए।

20. After her he took Ma`akhah the daughter of Avshalom; and she bore him Aviyah, and `Attai, and Ziza, and Shelomit.

21. और उसके बाद उस ने अबशलोम की बेटी माका को ब्याह लिया, और उस से अबिरयाह, अत्ते, जीजा और शलोमीत उत्पन्न हुए।

21. Rechav`am loved Ma`akhah the daughter of Avshalom above all his wives and his concubines: (for he took eighteen wives, and sixty concubines, and became the father of twenty-eight sons and sixty daughters.)

22. रहूबियाम ने अठारह रानियां ब्याह लीं और साठ रखेलियां रखीं, और उसके अठाईस बेटे और साठ बेटियां उत्पन्न हुई। अबशलोम की नतिनी माका से वह अपनी सब रानियों और रखेलियों से अधिक प्रेम रखता था;

22. Rechav`am appointed Aviyah the son of Ma`akhah to be chief, even the prince among his brothers; for he was minded to make him king.

23. सो रहूबियाम ने माका के बेटे अबिरयाह को मुख्य और सब भाइयों में प्रधान इस मनसा से ठहरा दिया, कि उसे राजा बनाए।

23. He dealt wisely, and dispersed of all his sons throughout all the lands of Yehudah and Binyamin, to every fortified city: and he gave them food in abundance. He sought for them many wives.
